FYI, airbags can still deploy for a short while after the battery has been disconnected. You must wait for a full discharge of the capacitors. @@cgunugc yes remove and replace all fluids including coolant. If you are "off roading" a vehicle. Rely on rolt cage and 5 point restraints not electronic inflatables. The air bag should have required weight in the seat, suspension compression, 15mph or more, and a impact on the bumper. System failure. The airbag if deployed will scare ya. Maybe a black eye. It should not break a nose. I would have disconnected the air bags and drove it home. Then again. I have never owned a car with airbags. Unless you count my mother and mother-in-law in the same car.

When that airbag went off it sounded like a rifle shot, although I thought the blue truck had broken something coming up the bank out of the river. 19:25 water got to modules under the seat and under the dash. Probably corroded a bunch of connectors too. Water inside the cab of modern vehicles destroys them. Airbags going off means the airbag module is likely shorted, wipers and windows are usually the Body Control module. Probably looking at a couple thousand in modules and wiring harness repairs. Check your owner's manual, but the best way to flat tow a 4×4 with an automatic trans over a long distance (I've heard 40 miles, but I'd stay less if the vehicle has been sitting) is to put the transmission in park and the transfer case in neutral. If there's no transfer case neutral (I'm looking at you 1996/97 GMT400 trucks) then you have to disconnect the driveline(s). Be sure to retain the u-joint cups or you'll have a needle bearing yard sale and you'll probably end up replacing the u-joint. The fluid pump on an auto trans is connected to the torque converter and is only powered by the engine. If the output shaft (or half shafts in the case of a transaxle) are turning without fluid getting pumped the bearings, bushings, planetaries, and clutch packs won't get lubrication or cooling. It's a recipe for disaster.
@christianweagle6253
@christianweagle6253 Жыл бұрын
There *are* a few autos whose pump is run from the tailshaft - the Ford A4LD (used in 90's explorers, small f150's, etc). These can be flat-towed safely. But yeah, most can't.

I'm glad the engineers that designed fuel systems that require that much fuel to keep the pump cool, haven't designed fuel systems for the vehicles I've owned. In all my years of owning vehicles and usually waiting until the tank is well below a quarter tank to refuel, I've never had a fuel pump problem. Although gas does help cool the fuel pump, it doesn't require a quarter tank or more to do so. As long as you have enough gas flowing through the pump, it's providing proper cooling.

@@Jim-bw8jo it’s just the limits I have set. Higher in winter. I am no longer involved with stuff. But in my life needing the ability to go hard 60+ miles without delay of fueling up has been known. It costs no more, often less to keep a few gallons instead of quarts in the tank. I have been blocked by closed roads in sub zero temps. A half full tank, winter clothing, blanket, chow…. Made it restful. (In half to 45 minute naps). Then start car, run heat 10 minutes…

I agree 1000% you should make a class / video on how to locate vehicles the damage and the scenarios and everything else make sure you upload it to every social media on site so every other rescue vehicle has an idea on what needs to be done and how to get to that person or vehicle. Make sure you tell them how to take a picture what angle what resolution so on and so forth you guys drive them Trails every day I'm sure you can think of something to tell these humans out here on how to be rescued.....Back in my day we sent smoke signals. Love what you do God bless you. Best of luck can't wait to watch

Recommend you pull all the carpets out of the Toyota, dry out as much as you can with shop vacs and towels. Then as a final measure setup a house dehumidifier inside and seal up all the windows where the power cord comes in. It’ll suck out another couple gallons out of all the nooks and crannies. I submerged my Isuzu trooper years ago and the dehumidifier trick saved me. Good luck.

Disconnecting the battery does not disable an airbag. It has a capacitor inside the airbag module on each airbag circuit which blow the bags. The first thing that goes if you get in a wreck is the battery and electrical system on a vehicle. Once an airbag blows you have to replace the airbag control module because it has spent it's electrical charge.

Hmm it's taught to cut them during vehicle extrication. Had a collision where the curtain driver had a partial inflation where the rest was still folded and creased(when i saw it i immediately thought that fucker is going to go). The battery was blasted everywhere in the engine compartment. The driver and passenger airbags were they only ones that deployed along with the partial driver curtain. Major Headon collision.

They are designed to discharge through a bleeder resistor. The longest I can find is a Jeep Grand Cherokee which takes 120 seconds to bleed off the airbag module power once power is removed. Most are under 60 seconds. So yes, disconnecting the battery and waiting a couple minutes does disable the airbags.

Seen this done before. (I'm early in the vid I'm positive Matt knows and he goes over this at some point).... Sounds like a hissing from the exhaust being bent and closed up from going up that hill and then them trying to back back down it and catching the exhaust pipe on the level ground below...... Watch the guy at Falls Hole here in Virginia do it trying to get out of a trail from the water where bigger trucks had created ruts and he had to get a running start to get up out of the hole at the end and because it was so steep one of the times when he had gone too slow he had to back up and caught the exhaust pipe on the edge of the rut and bent the exhaust in half, it sounded just like that when it ran.
