Lost Girl! I love this tune, and i think it sounds great on this banjo. Fun fact, this is a clip from my first attempt at a mother's day special. The song turned out great, but I felt that sitting on the kitchen counter just wasn't special enough, so I went and set up the whole party scene you saw in the actual special.
The banjo I'm playing is a Bruce Berry banjo; if you wanna check out more banjos like it, head over to these links: website- bruceberrybanjos.wordpress.com/ youtube- www.youtube.com/ @bruceberrybanjos5757 instagram- / bruceberrybanjos
If you'd like to support my channel, go check out my patreon! patreon.com/PhoebeSanders And if you want a little extra banjo fun, head on over to my instagram! / phoebesandersbanjo

Hi Ms. Phoebe! I’m a new subscriber and my almost 3 year old asks me every day is “Banjo Phoebe” has a new video. She also started carrying around our thrifted children’s guitar pretending it’s a banjo. We love your content!🤠💙

Lost Girl is one of Your best tunes. Thank You for sharing it. When You don’t mess up a note, anymore, I will miss Your wry smile. Keep on playing, Phoebe. You are wonderful. ❤🪕❤

That wry smile you speak of is the face of true competence. Knowing you messed up, grinning through it, and continuing on. Phoebe is in for great things. Mr. Scruggs and Roy Clark undoubtedly messed up too, but didn’t let that stop them.

@@BuddyX74 I think for the most part, the “flubbs” happen when she tries a figure and it doesn’t work out. In my experience, the dancers and listeners don’t notice. The smile, though! I love that smile. If she ever plays a tune without at least one, it will be sad indeed. I hope she keeps trying to add those figurative notes. It’s what gives clawhammer its spice.

Phoebe, great playing ! I don't know how often you review the comments, and I see this is only two hours past. You asked on "Fretless Friday" bout using nylon and nylgut strings on your banjos. Old banjos, gourd banjos, wood top banjos and any banjo that does not have a neck reinforced with a metal truss rod are built to use guy, nylgut and/or nylon strings. Metal strings have less give and greater tension transferred to the neck, and can warp the neck destroying intonation. A banjo with a truss rod can be adjusted to correct neck warpage, and as such can handle the tension of metal strings. You can't go wrong putting nylgut on any banjo though it will sound like a different instrument. If you want to hear the voice of God, put nylgut on your gourd banjo. Years ago I restored a banjo that was over a hundred years old. It took me everyday for a year. And I loved it. But imagine my heart break when I got to a festival only to discover my banjos neck was warped beyond recovery due to the new metal strings I put on it 😢. The truss rod is accessed at the peg head end just behind the nut. It takes only an eighth to a quarter turn with an Allen key to adjust the neck. This should only be done rarely if ever by a luthier or someone who knows what they're doing. Anyway, thanks for reading this far. And remember: nylon, nylgut, ( or gut, which is really temperature and humidity sensitive like skin heads to be a pain) is great on any banjo. And metal strings are for banjos that have a truss rod to counteract warpage (okay, you could use light gauge metal but . . .). Play on girl !
@happyskating2000
@happyskating2000 Ай бұрын
I would think the wooden soundboard plus synthetic gut strings would be a bit muddy. I have a gourd banjo with a skin head and synthetic gut strings. It’s also fret less.

I just learned this one the other week. Fun tune to play, especially with fiddles. I love the melody of the B part. I might have to try your fretting of the second string at the third fret in the A part. I've been doing it as a pull off on the first string, based on Allison De Groot's playing in a clifftop vid here on youtube.

Shorter than mine and a lot more controlled. If i dont have it tied back or a sweat band on its all up in my face! 😂 Glad yours is more managable so you can play so nicely unbothered. 💛
