I've been waiting for a review on the hydra. Thanks mate. I'm need to decide betwene the hydra, el tomo fish and the seaside. I've test rode them all on odd crummy days so it's hard to decide. And getting the volume right vs lenght. Keep up the great work
@BigGuyBoardsSurfshop
@BigGuyBoardsSurfshop 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Judging by the length, I'd say the Hydra is more of an all out grovel board. El tomo looks like a fun all rounder. Seaside will perform more like a traditional fish. Hope that helps.

@@BigGuyBoardsSurfshop I'm light years behind you guys. Haha..I dont really know what a fish performs like..I'm told that it stays above water and doesnt dig rail to rail like HP boards..idk. Well I took my 5'10" Puddle Jumper Round pin out yesterday on head high fast waves and it was fine. I always though I needed more lenght or volume on it. I gues i just lacked in skill. If you..or if you know someone that has a vid explaining the actual difference betwene the performance of a fish, grovelor, or. HP..and how the shapes effect the surfing, skill level, volume, etc . that would be a world of help for me and my bros who haven't tried alot of different boards but we're ready to buy a new one. We're just ok..learning to pump down the line, dont like long boards, but still need med volume to catch waves etc...we do ride head high waves regulary..learning cutback kinda

@@josephhatamiable I'd advise that you progress on a fish if you don't want to be on a longer boatd. It's easier to surf then many other shortboard shapes

Big Guy Boards Surfboard Review I’m 5’6 175 lbs. I haven’t surfed in several years and looking for a small wave board. Was mulling between the baked potato and the puddle jumper when I came across this. I’m surfing mostly knee to shoulder high beach breaks. I’m thinking about 40 liters should compensate for my age and current shape. Which board would you suggest? Thanks in advanced!

Big Guy Boards Surfboard Review Yeah mate. Maybe you can even get a mate to film you. Least thats probably not too hard at the wave pool. Good to know she paddles well. I wasn't sure and usually go 42 plus on grovel but wanted to try a 40 so sounds like this one was a good pick 👍

What’s the upper wave size limit for the hydra. Wondering about hydra or seaside. Thinking to replace groveller 60% hydra 40% seaside. Also wondering if lib tech any good or too stiff. How did yours ride?
@BigGuyBoardsSurfshop
@BigGuyBoardsSurfshop 3 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried lib tec with this board, but was good for the puddle jumper. I think I had the Hydra in about head high. Any bigger and I think there would be too much lift in the tail. I haven't ridden the seaside, so couldn't comment on the difference.

40L…have you tried lower like 25-35? Wondering what the lowest volume is for heavier guys since I have to carry them around and can’t go bigger than 6”0. Also I’m liking a shorter board on smaller waves. Just makes sense unless you’re on a longboard
@BigGuyBoardsSurfshop
@BigGuyBoardsSurfshop Жыл бұрын
Since shooting this video I have gone the other way and now want loads more foam for UK junky conditions. If it is a decent wave you might get away with dropping a bit more volume, but i am having loads more fun on higher volume boards in tiny weak waves.

@@BigGuyBoardsSurfshopThanks - looks like 6”4 46L or near RNF 96 or this. I think youre right - volume is better or float for heavier bigger guys. Do you think 46L is good for around 100kg surfer?

Hi I’m just wondering your thoughts on how this goes in typical weak English windy waves? I’m thinking of something as a super groveller/shoredump daily driver that’ll cover me in the choppy gutless stuff from knee to head high. I’m in the North East and the majority of the time I’m surfing a fat wave which like to break fast. The Hydra seems ideal!
@BigGuyBoardsSurfshop
@BigGuyBoardsSurfshop 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. The Hydra would definitely work for most of the conditions that you describe. I've also developed a board under the 'Goliath' brand that does the same job. Its perfect for weak waves and packs in loads of volume: www.bigguyboards.com/collections/grovel-boards-for-menu/products/goliath-mr-motivator-63-fcs-2-bundle

Looking to add a grovel board - Im 53 years old 6' 205 East coast US - 6'4 Hydra 47 liters or 6' Sweet potato 49 liters? thanks
@BigGuyBoardsSurfshop
@BigGuyBoardsSurfshop Жыл бұрын
I haven't ridden the Hydra at that size. And I'm not sure if Biolos tweaks the Hydra as much as Dan Mann in bigger sizes. I think Dan Mann looks at rocker, concaves, dims etc as the board is blown up. I haven't heard Biolos talk about this. And a 6'2 Sweet Potato would have loads more volume then a 6'4 Hydra, to fit in the pocket of a small wave - if you intend to use it for grovelling. Lost boards are great for heavier surfers, but i personally think the Sweet Potato will scale up better. Whatever you do, after struggling with grovel waves for years, I have finally settled on the fact that foam is your friend. Whatever you get, if it is for small waves get something with loads of float. And just to confuse things further, id definitely get another Hydra.

What about compared with the Puddle Jumper? Does the Hydra have more lower end? I have chest and over waves covered but need something for the junk other than my longboard. Really stuck between these two

@jewittian I found the hydra was better in smaller waves then the puddle jumper, which started to work for me in about chest high. For me now, I bump up the volume considerably when groveling. I'm currently riding a 6'4 sweet potato at 57L. I did a review on it recently.

@@BigGuyBoardsSurfshop I skimboard mostly but when I surf I ride a custom chronic ninjah. It's kind of like a scaled down nose rider. A thicker and shorter longboard. Nice review board looks like the el tomo good to see you can get away with shorter length for the same volume as I thought the same with the el tomo as its longer, never base a review on the wave pool as its false conditions at the end of the day real life conditions are what these boards are designed for not , baby pool waves, think your croyde sesh is the one to base the results on. they say with the pool as its fresh water that you need more volume why doesnt some one just chuck a tub of salt in the pool ,problem solved.
