Perhaps lost forever, but maybe, just maybe, I might get to see them at least once, even if it's just once. Lost Media will forever be an interest, and not everything will always be completely found.

Personally, i would like the 1956 and 1964 Eurovision Song Contest footage found. The audio has been found, but almost all footage has been lost, apart from winners in both and the starting screens. Many pictures exist. I believe the only known copies were destroyed in a fire, but there are rumours there could be copies in France, although not available to the public.

@@frankboogaard88 That's a shame :( Thanks for the story though, Frank. It's things like that that continue to spark hope in lost media enthusiasts like myself. Someone out there does probably have a domestic videotape of The Power of the Daleks or The Macra Terror that they completely forgot about, and it's still in that very same attic, basement or storage loft. Hopefully his family kept them and will reveal them one day. If not, hopefully some video enthusiasts out there bought/took the tapes from them and are keeping them nice and safe. Always remember, if you ever make amends (lost episodes aside, it's important to try not to be enemies with people) be sure to ask them about those tapes. Have a good day, and please upload more videos of you playing old games 🤣

I'd give just about anything to watch the original, complete, 9+ hour, edited by Stroheim alone, version of " Greed " by Erich Von Stroheim. The Highlanders is a pretty good story. They almost animated it, but that's long and difficult, so they did Macra instead. Sorry, I shouldn't be hard on the animation team. It's the lack of required backers that's the problem. I'm hoping they give it a go one day because it's difficult to find a good reconstruction of Highlanders

I actually want to see the original work print of The Lovely Bones. Because I’ve written a couple posts about it in r/lostmedia on Reddit and The Lost Media Forums since there’s a few people that have interest in seeing the lost scenes of this sorta forgotten about Peter Jackson movie. One in particular was the original ending of Mr. Harvey (the killer who murdered the main protagonist) has an icicle fall on his shoulder and then falls down off a cliff. Originally, Jackson wanted the viewer’s mind to know if he’s alive or dead. But the test audiences didn’t like it and they wanted him to die in a more painful way so Peter Jackson had to reshoot that scene, just a little before the movie was even released.

Oh man, your channel is good quality and this is an awesome video, it's very nice that the algorithm is giving you some well deserved visibility… I am a person with interest in history and culture in general so I'm a long time 'lost media' follower/interested person, so I truly understand what you mean. There are many media pieces in cinema and literature which I would love for them to come back to public consciousness and accessibility, I think we both have this same feeling. For me personally the lost pieces of media which I'm more interested in is music related, lost albums, music videos, concerts, especially stuff like Queen's last ever last performance live lost tapes, at Knebworth; unlocated footage or misplaced tspes of artists like Tiny Tim, precisely (whom I just love and I think is criminally underrated); lost and probably destroyed tapes of early works of artists like Judas Priest or their original demos for their debut Rocka-Rolla; lost tapes and demos of Elton John; unconfirmed tracks of artists like Screaming Lord Sutch, Sweet, Jobriath, Neil Young, Rory Gallagher; Lost singles and recordings of artists like Peter Straker; The lost Frank Zappa recordings and electronic tapes from his early experiments at the commune / Studio Z, hundreds of hours of his early composition seized and more likely lost by the police; The Lost works of Edgard Varèse, etcetera. Well, hope you're doing great and amazing work again!!!

The Uncut Version of Freaks, from 1932, the uncut version of the film ran 90 minutes, but now it barely runs a little over an hour today. The spider pit scene from King Kong 1933, the lost deleted scenes from The Wizard of Oz as well, such as the jitterbug scene and the triumphal return to Emerald City, the emotional reprise of over the Rainbow in the witch's castle, etc. Those are other lost movie scenes or just lost uncut versions of movies I would love to see but sadly the footage is believed to have been destroyed a long time ago. As for The Wizard of Oz, the Scarecrow dance or just the extended version of "If I Only had a Brain". That's the only deleted scene from the movie that completely survives or remains fully intact

If these films exist in European archives and collections, is there a way to get them? Could we crowdfund? Could America send cultural ambassadors to negotiate? There has to be a way
@AstileDohertyProductions
@AstileDohertyProductions 3 жыл бұрын
That's a question I personally can't give an answer to for the simple reason that we don't know any of this as fact. If it was fact, I'm led to believe the process itself is a long one that requires permission from the government to inspect archives and, if material is found, further permission is required to have it returned safely to its point of origin or given a new home. It took Morris a couple days to have those episodes agreed to be returned from Nigeria because the television station technically owned them, and negotiations had to be made, and it was that few days of processing that made Morris lose Web of Fear 3. If we were to find Drakula or Golem, who's to say the archival manager wouldn't take it as well? Maybe it's possible to get in contact with a professional such as an ambassador or archive specialist who can organise these types of things and have any potentially lost/unseen material made public again, but I wouldn't know where to start and if I did it'd probably take a while to get done with a low success rate. Not go mention most public archives are more interested in restoring material that already exists as opposed to actively searching for lost material. MOST. There are plenty of archival services that do search, so maybe it's best to leave them to do things at their own pace. My chin is always up for stuff like this, and if I ever get the chance, I'll ring them up myself and inquire :)

If LAM ever does turn up it will almost certainly be regarded as a major disappointment. It's had decades of hype built up around it based mostly on the amazing make-up job, and I think if it reappears I fear it'll turn out to be not that good after all (if Mark of the Vampire is indicative, anyway). And I've always been a bit grumpy about the 1915 Golem, cos I read that Donald F. Glut book back in the 90s when I was at university and was kind of excited to find it had been found... then finding it hadn't, apart from that clip. I recall reading conflicting things about Golem and the Dancing Girl, and I'm fairly sure I read somewhere that not only was it lost, it may never have been released or even finished in the first place. No idea where I read that, unfortunately, and it may not have been correct anyway. Problem with lost media of that vintage, of course, is often there's so little reliable information on it... Totally with you on Power of the Daleks (and dear GOD those 90s BBC audio cassettes were terrible quality; the Evil of the Daleks one was particularly egregious cos they used the 16mm film soundtrack for the second episode and the contrast with the off-air recordings was... immense). Personally I'd quite like the last episode to turn up cos I read somewhere about this episode having been shot with a 625-line camera a year before BBC1 went over to 625-line transmission and I'm curious about whether or not that was the case.
@AstileDohertyProductions
@AstileDohertyProductions 3 жыл бұрын
Perhaps LAM would be disappointing, but no media deserves to be lost. All of it should be viewable in some capacity. The Golem and the Dancing Girl is so obscure I wouldn't be surprised if what you say is true. As for Power, I recall the last episode, as well as being shot on 625, was actually edited and broadcast from a 35mm negative which, for whatever reason, the corporation chose not to keep, despite doing so for many other episodes such as Wheel in Space 6. It's a massive shame as that could've been Troughton's earliest survivor as opposed to that Underwater Menace nonsense, but that's the way it goes I guess. Here's hoping someone rescued it before it became just another spaghettified mess in a landfill somewhere

Thanks for acknowledging Patrick Troughton. When people do Dr who reviews often just mention him and quickly skip to Jon Pertwee who also often gets skipped quickly so the Tom Baker fans are kept happy. While Pertwee was my favourite Doctor Troughton is the first I remember seeing and I liked him. He was a hippy Dr Who. I stopped watching Dr Who when Baker turned up. He was the worst Doctor to me.
