Ian reviews the Lost Rad Ripper surfboard: www.boardshop....
The Lost Rad Ripper surfboard is fresh from the Mayhem "Post Modern Retro" collection and is one of the most inclusive shortboards from the Lost factory in 2019.
Matt's starting point was the Retro Ripper which he tweaked and tuned for smaller and mushier summer style conditions. The nose rocker was relaxed for paddle speed and early wave entry and instant speed from the off. The round tail was switched for a nice wide squash which improves glide and performance in beach-break waves with a pocket.
Matt grew up in the 80's when performance shortboards were a little easier to use with flatter rockers and more volume throughout, so its not difficult to identify his inspiration.
The Rad Ripper maintains a significant tail rocker which has been cut through with a serious double concave which delivers that levitation feeling and bursts of speed.
The Rad Ripper, is a shortboard for all (depending on how it is sized); a brilliant small wave weapon for a decent surfer in summer surf, an excellent option for the intermediate surfer looking for some extra volume and a forgiving outline (flat, wide and stable), and a viable solution for the older, competent surfer who just needs a board that'll help him compete in smaller waves and busier line-ups.
The Rad Ripper looks stunning with an undeniable nod to the past but primed with modern concaves and vee to keep things lively. The retro 'beak nose' carries volume for paddle speed in small surf and the low apex and tucked rails are soft and forgiving for any rider.
The Rad Ripper looks set to be a best seller this summer..definitely one to watch!
