The patience Sawyer/James had with this man was amazing. He'd waited so long to kill him, but I can't help but think that, if the dude had shown remorse, S/J would have just walked away.

It's ultraperfectly satisfying to watch such moments in Lost: 1. Sawyer kills damn Antony 2. Ben kills Charles Widmore 3. and look as all of the heroes meet each other in purgatory at the end of the series |)

I think it has more to do with the fact that Sawyer is attractive and the father is not, so viewers feel sympathy for Sawyer and excuse his behavior. Sawyer is also a prick. Sawyer ended people's lives by stealing their money, too. And his story never really had any resolution in the first place. He loved to shoot at things and go along for adventures, but I never got the sense he repented for the things he'd done or even changed in his time on the island. Maybe that's why he spent most of the show being tormented.

What's weird is that he's actually the real Tom Sawyer, too. He was a con man also, and he ruined lives also. He'd just murdered an innocent man before the plane crash. @@wesleygabriel2528yes, Sawyer changed a lot, especially during their time in the 70s w/ the Dharma Initiative. Even prior to that (Seasons 2 & 3), he became less selfish & more willing to help the group. During their time in the 70s, he became the de facto leader of our Losties and was protective of them. He had that "no man gets left behind" leader mentality. Some say that he didn't have much of character growth, but I disagree. (But I agree that he's also eye candy. Dude, if someone is that adamant that you finish a letter, and the first half you already read pretty much spells out that you f%^&ed the guy's mom and are responsible for both his parents' deaths, you probably should know that you literally looking death in the face. But true to form, 'Tom Sawyer' was a d%^k right to the end. I'm all for law and order, but yeah... I'm on board that James is the judge, jury, and executioner in this moment. @@masterofreality5528The Island is essentially God. It's the source of either all life in the universe, or at the very least, on Earth. If the light goes out on the Island, everyone dies, everywhere. The Island is conscious, and is actually the prime mover of all the events in the show. Essentially the end goal of The Island was to essentially harm itself so that it could heal in a way that would make it impervious to the old wound. Risk death to remove a tumor through a risky surgery so to speak. In order to create an Island where a Smoke Monster cannot exist, it had to first create one, push it to trying to leave the Island, forcing Jacob to plug the source of the light with the cork, preventing another Smoke Monster from being created. Then the next step is to orchestrate a scenario where the Smoke Monster can be killed. If you want a more detailed explanation, I'd recommend the channel Lost Explained. It'll answer any question you have..

An evil man killed by another evil man. What I truly found disgusting about this episode is how so many cheered Sawyer's murder of Anthony Cooper. Because he was such a big favorite and Cooper was far from a nice guy, many saw nothing wrong in murdering another person for the sake of petty revenge. What I found even more disgusting than Sawyer's murder, was how Locke had manipulated the younger man into committing the act, because he didn't want to do the deed himself. And Locke didn't want Cooper dead in retaliation for the latter's attempt on his life three to four years ago. Locke simply wanted Cooper dead in order to show that he had passed Ben's test. I'm just . . . I don't know what I found more disgusting - Ben's test, Locke's manipulation, Sawyer's petty revenge or the fans' cheers over what happened. Ugh!

@@juanitajones6900 no one is saying John or those others are good people. But trying to murder your own son then calling him a “spineless rat” after you tried to kill him is a crime that doesn’t deserve forgiveness.

I found this scene a bit disappointing, the way Locke's father interacts with Sawyer is almost like a cartoon villain. No nuance or depth, they just wanted to make him as dislikable as possible for the payoff at the end of the scene.
@hendersonalvarado141
@hendersonalvarado141 28 күн бұрын
Are you kidding? The character was always like this in every appearance he had, he was a parasite who scammed everyone to take advantage of them. Not all people have nuances, there are those who they are simply bad, having them have goodness would have even gone against their previous scenes. He had no mercy on his son, what makes you believe he would have it on a stranger?

@@hendersonalvarado141 No he wasn't, in other scenes he was shrewd, amoral and self-interested. In this scene he's just amoral, the way he interacts with Sawyer isn't even believable to me, it doesn't make sense for his character and comes off completely contrived for the payoff. It's a good example of when writers try to adjust a character to fit their plot instead of the other way around.

I hated this scene. Making him this ridiculously evil, irredeemable and hateable was just lazy writing. You wanna see how to do a scene like this with class, watch "that special someone" from GTA4 There was no development for James' character, he just strangled the dude and that was it

there really are psychopaths who are just as pure evil as Cooper. Most characters in Lost undergo a period of character development, but some of them are just plain assholes (to put it mildly)

@@nickv.s125 I'm sure. But what if the twist in the tail was the part of the story that James repressed, that his mom was driven to run away because she was being beaten and abused by his dad. That he had been searching all this time but at the end we find out the true villain and culprit was his dad all along. And his resolution doesn't come from revenge, but making his peace with the truth he chose to bury.

We can agree to disagree--Sawyer's entire life and the dark path he took was the result of the intervention of the man sitting before him. Would his father have eventually murdered his mother anyway, say over a burned steak or a grilled cheese sandwich falling on the floor? We'll never know, and it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of this show. To go down that what-if path is like wondering if Hitler would've been different if his father had been nice to him, or if John Lennon would be alive today if he didn't leave the Dakota that day--what-ifs never end, but what happened, happened. Sawyer's mother was conned by this man, Sawyer's dad killed her and himself because of this, and Sawyer became a broken man and a killer. Maybe after the island, Sawyer DID come to the realization that his father was just as responsible for his mother's death, and learned to live with that. Doesn't matter, though--not everything will ever be answered. And about your point regarding ridiculous evil and no dimensions, dude, some people ARE irredeemable in this world--they might like animals or recycle, but that doesn't negate all the bad. Anthony Cooper might've loved dolphins, we don't know.

For all we know the Survivors could have lived on for decades after the show ended, but when they died they'd still reunite

SPOILER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lost is a bit of a clusterfuck, like watching "the ninth gate" with Johnny Depp x100 f.e the twin brothers were never real and the "woman" was straight up a succubus from hell. Now they all did survive the flight/crash, they all got lured in by Jacob for him to find a successor for him, containing "the smoke monster", which first took the form of his dead brother who he yeeted into the heart of the island where the monster was born (then it took the form of Christian Shephard (jacks dad) and then later John Locke after he got killed by Benjamin), also the smoke monster could only take someones form who is confirmed dead. The way the island is functioning is still a big ?????, but it has def. something to do with gamma rays, magnetism, gravity and a lot of drug usage from the writer 🤣. Later we see Desmond spirit jumping back and forth between times, cause of the mentioned shit thats going on the island, which also happened 2 people before who were near the island. Penelope Widmore's father Charles Widmore, has invested shitloads of money to basicially replicate or rather create the crash, where the whole world believed, that anyone on this plane was indeed dead, but his true intention was going back to the island to hunt Benjamin. All the "side cracks" where they're "home" are actually "what ifs" if they wouldn't have crashed, before they get rescued by Desmond's wife and are known as "The Oceanic 6". The end is actually "the afterlife" where they all meet in the church. That's obviously a short summary and there is waaay more dept in this, but all in all I loved this show.

Well, there are some sins that are worse than others, like killing your own father. I think even if Jacob knew how to kill the man in black, he wouldn't have done so himself, because they were brothers. I'm reminded of the poignant scene in _The Godfather: Part 3_ where Michael confesses to killing his brother, "my father's son." Whitmore was a nasty piece of work. He ordered the extermination of the Dharma Initiative, and made Ben kill his own father personally, and not just as a collaborator. Then he wanted Ben to kill a woman and her baby, but he wouldn't do it.
