Exactly 12 years ago today, Michael Giacchino provided us with "Closure" - a gorgeous, eight-minute soundtrack that offers a resolution to the themes of five different, beloved characters. Go watch it!

So many years after the show's ending, Michael Giacchino's amazing soundtrack for LOST still has many, many secrets to uncover. Not only does every main character have their own theme music, but much like the interconnected writing of the show itself, Giacchino's score connects locations, scenes, emotions and conflicts in unbelievably brilliant ways. For the foreseeable future, I will be exploring Michael Giacchino's soundtrack from ABC's LOST in a weekly video, covering all episodes of the show and their musical connections to each other.

Happy Lost-iversary! I remember that end date so clearly (well, for us Europeans, in the middle of the night at May 24th). Wow, that's a nice connection at 06:53. I love the simple use of instruments here. After the intensity of what transpired (accompanied with a full blown orchestra), it's nice to go back to the roots. 10:54 - I love that the synthesizer theme comes back here, so close to the ending. When that music kicked in, I was anticipating the FS-reveal. Because as of now, I (along with the viewers) had not figured out what the hell was going in this mysterious alternate universe and how it would tie into the original timeline. It was a nice musical way to say that we're about to get the answer, just like when it kicked in during "Through the Looking Glass".

Thanks! One thing I love about "Closure" (and this sequence in general) is how quiet and understated it is. The 'flashforward' theme really works well to add that discomfort during the Jack/Kate scene (if you listen to it on the album, you can easily spot where it's 'cut', though 😛). Jack is in the dark as much as we are, but you can sense that the revelation is coming. Even the variation of Jack's theme that follows (which i was not unable to include here) is so quiet and subtle.

I'm gonna have to watch more of these analyses! I think the music is one of the reasons why Lost is the most emotional show to watch for me. Especially regarding this final episode... no other series finale has ever made me cry this much, including repeated watches.

Jack's theme when he gets up outside the water fall and walks into the jungle playing one last time, but slightly different, more tragic but also in a way triumphant. It's basically his final theme, right? Feels more emotional/tragic/epic, as a moment and as a character, than any hero put to screen in my opinion. So much time and development put into the character that the ending realllly feels like an ending. As the years go on, it might be the moment in the finale that makes me the saddest lol.

Jack's character arc is the best! His theme does appear one last time in the final scene (specifically when he realizes he died), combined with "Life and Death".
