Michael Giacchino considers himself a storyteller first and a musician second. On LOST, his soundtrack doesn't just suit the story of the show - it adds to it. By attaching certain scenes to established characters, locations, emotions and events through his music, Giacchino provides additional context and meaning to what's happening on screen. This way, understanding Giacchino's rich collection of themes and leitmotifs is another way to further appreciate the score, as well as the show in general. "LOST - Storytelling In Music" provides new, bite-sized soundtrack analysis videos on a weekly basis for those that just can't love the show enough!
This week, we're going back to find Claire... as the subject of Kate's tremendous sense of guilt. Kate's emotional state in episode 6x08 "Recon" is represented by a very specific musical motif that appears only three times, but tells a very specific story. But there's more! Go watch it!

So many years after the show's ending, Michael Giacchino's amazing soundtrack for LOST still has many, many secrets to uncover. Not only does every main character have their own theme music, but much like the interconnected writing of the show itself, Giacchino's score connects locations, scenes, emotions and conflicts in unbelievably brilliant ways. For the foreseeable future, I will be exploring Michael Giacchino's soundtrack from ABC's LOST in (hopefully) a weekly video, covering specific scenes from the show and their musical connections to each other.

I really dig this new program series of yours on this channel. In a way, also you tell a story through them. This one was particularly great. The piano melody especially in between those scenes and the way you cut them. Another aspect is the "surprise" of it all. We kind of assume what we're going to get from the other series, since it was following the episode structure. Now we get something different every now and then. Nice!

God the amount of detail that Giacchino put into what many would consider a relatively unimportant scene in Recon is just so impressive. Especially his really precise use of that Kate's Littleton guilt motif. I really like Kate's main theme too, and while I get the criticism that it feels like a misappropriated knockoff of Psycho, I think Giacchino uses it in such clever and versatile ways that it just makes me like it more.

I agree completely. With this series, I hope to spread some more love and appreciation for the subtleties in the score from some otherwise 'unexceptional' scenes. 😄 The introduction to Kate's theme in "Born To Run" is a clear reference to "Psycho", but as I've come to learn over the years, playing around with "Dies Irae" (which both scenes do) is not an 'original' idea in the first place. But that original version of Kate's theme appears in maybe five scenes total? I feel like Giacchino went to a lot of different and more unique places with that theme over the course of the show. I will be highlighting some of them very soon. 😁

Jacob also brought Vincent the dog to the island .Vincent was a therapy dog for the people on the island . Vincent was there when Jake woke and Vincent was there when jack died @@FringeMusic107
