Lost the C10 Silverado in a Pickup Fire in 1 Day!

Well, I surprised my husband with a C10 Square Body Silverado and and it burned up 5 hours later! We found out how a pickup fire can basically destroy your truck in a few minutes. We've had a lot of hits and misses with vehicles...but this is our first (and hopefully last) pickup fire.

Growing up we had a Mustard & Ketchup vehicles in the family. My mom had a Red 1967 Chevelle SS 396 so it was affectionately know as Ketchup. My dad had a mid Yellow 70's Toyota Station Wagon so we deemed it Mustard. Obviously No One wanted to be dropped off at school in Mustard. My mom sold Ketchup long before us kids know what she had and 47 years later we still remind her how much that car would be worth today.

I think John is right. Likely the battery could not handle the charge output of the alternator, overheated and caught on fire. I have switched all my batteries over to Autozones Platinum series. They are a sealed maintenance free gel mat battery, and they are very heavy duty and worth every penny. I'm glad everyone is okay. John in Portland

Could be. I've also seen a loose positive cable short circuit against the exhaust...not pretty.

Was the original engine salvageable??

Yes, it is currently rebuilt is a 383 stroker and it’s going to go into my 1984 K15 short bed pick up.

Well the truck was totaled from the fire. I pulled the engine and transmission and sold the burned out hulk on craigslist.

@@pinkcaddygarage267 I still have the 77 Cheyenne 4x4 SB ...... hmmmm. Well the main thing is obviously no one is hurt. You are going to be using the Furminator on the new one I'm sure! I will try to post a pic of the 77 Chevy on my site. Not sure if I can? Just so you can see it not to solicit.
