I loved this game as a kid. It was really unique and there was so much to it. Most board games were very abstract, but this really made you feel like you were role playing as some adventurer searching for hidden treasure. The lava was especially cool as you could cordon off areas of the board and trap players, making them take a longer and more dangerous route as the dinosaurs draw in on them. We used to connect the lava pieces together though, like they do coming out of the volcano, as it seems the pieces were meant to interlock that way. Thanks for the blast from the past.

I have this game and I've had it since Christmas 1985... but I was disappointed with the playing pieces as they're not like they appear on the box or in the TV ad

I saw they make 2 version of the English version,in a green box and a red box,both cover are different and both board seem different also,you know which one was the first Edition?
@TabletopIsland
@TabletopIsland 9 ай бұрын
I’m not entirely sure, but I know the popular one is the green box one from research. I imagine it’s also the first edition one since it’s the one that was translated in every language.

Played this so many times as a child and a teenager (early 80s to late 90s). Fantastic game. Like you we changed the game rules a lot as it was just not that hard to play the game with the rules as set.

You should try 'Escape from Atlantis' or 'The Vampire Game'. Both from Waddingtons back in 1986.

Yeah they’re great! I’ll eventually own Atlantis, but I prefer the 90’s version over the original as it removed the ball barring bit that I wasn’t a fan of.

In later versions of the rules, it explains that after the volcano erupts for the first time, you are supposed to add one/three lava every turn. Otherwise the lava would only ever get to the bottom of the volcano!
@TabletopIsland
@TabletopIsland 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah all versions of the rules I found state once it passes the volcano part you start adding more than one so I adjusted to just the multiple. Good to know though! Such a fun one haha

Yes it and still is was a great game the amount of all nighters i had with friends with countless . I do like the rule of swampy moving two spaces and as soon a t rex gets back to the den with a explorer . Have him as a big mac i did have the bird dropping explorers onto lava but that was just added a little bit more excitement and tactics but all in all id give this game a 12-10 i loved it and the pieces that make the game and cards a so realistic ..

you never played this as a kid did you. your changing the rules. The original rules worked just fine. Trust me. You have four players and go for 3 coins, its chaos and so much fun. Most people reviewing this are younger and doing it alone. Back when i was a kid in the 80's, the whole family played it, all four of us and it was so much fun.The rules are fine, believe me. And i love the review.

The lava tokens don’t get seen almost ever out of the 36 times I’ve played it the past 2 years. A few of us had the same concern. So that’s the main rule change. Fun fact the rules were supposed to be very different from the original creator ;). Glad you enjoyed it though! This game is awesome! ❤️

I hear that! I think there can be balance… it’s just about planning effectively and honestly most peeps don’t know what types of board there are/were out there other than like Monopoly, Uno, etc.

This game, Zaxxon, Heroquest and Space Crusade were big parts of my childhood; remember playing Trivial Pursuit and Blockbusters quite a lot as well. Indeed, there are a lot more board games than people realize, than even I realize. Last time I was in a games shop I was amazed that there's a Dark Crystal board game and a Goonies card game!
