Those types of knifes are relatively cheap, but they still have an appeal to them all the same. You manage to make that one great again... Thumbs Up!

Surprised a split tang. On a working knife , not just a show piece. Nice work , hope 2023 is filled with peace, health and prosperity.

I love those old leather handled knives, I saved up my money and bought one when I was 12 or 13. The knife I wanted was bigger and had a fake antler handle(bigger is better in a young boys mind), the knife I had to settle for only had a 5" blade, and a leather handle, but after 40 years of use I am so thankful the other knife sold before I could buy it. You do most excellent work! Keep it up!!

I've not been subscribed to your channel for long, but once I watched one of your videos, I was hooked! I loved restoring old things that most people would just toss out, but my hands won't allow me to do it any more. So now I do the next best thing, watch you do it 😁

Western Cutlery patented the split tang about 1930, and used the design until 1990. Your knife was built between 1961 and 1976 in Boulder Colorado. The pins holding the knob were peened and usually don't come out without damaging or destroying the knob. I typically re-haft the split tangs with stag or wood scales without removing the knob.

ok. i am so curious. how come you didn't start off by sandblasting, and then stick it in the rust remover afterwards? wouldn't that save a lot of work? sorry if i'm asking a stupid question here, i genuinely don't know

That might be a Western Official Boy Scouts of America knife. Hard to know for sure since the blade looks to have been modified at some point in its life. Great work on the restoration though!

My grandpa had that hunting knife. He gutted more deer with it then you could count over decades. He used it and sharpened it so many times it almost looks like a fillet knife now. After he passed away in 2006, it was given to me. I don't hunt but it's a nice momento of one of his favorite hobbies. You did an amazing job at bringing this knife back to life

To answer your question. "What do you call a guy with a knife sticking out of him? A victim. Ethan Chapin and the other 3 victims in Moscow, Idaho are receiving justice. It's great with advancements in forensic technology we can't catch killers in months, not years anymore.

You can often see this 'bifurcated' tang in Chinese cutlery. Their laws forbid citizens from having a decent tool, so mafuacturers sell knives this way.
