Id just ike to say a big THANKS to Izzy and Tom for inspiring me to make my own camper, indeed without having watched the LOST IN TRANSIT videos / sage from day one, I wouldnt have done it. Its a VW Crafter....and Id post a pic if I could! Just got ready last week, her name is TOURIA !

Lovely area and a great video. Like you I have only seen the castle from the road but it is stunning. Tom, I think the you need to take great care with alcohol and Issy as they appear to not mix that well. Keep safe.

You should hike up to the Zugspitze. It's quite easy from the Austrian site Ehrwald. You buy the Gatterl Ticket which brings you up to Ehrwald Alm with cable Car. Then a 5 hours hike, and the cable Car brings you back down to Ehrwald. I did that 4 times, incredible!!!!

Ludwig built Neuschwanstein, because he was a crazy man-child. (I still want to visit it someday!)

And it still remains unfinished to this day….it was sucking a pile of cash out of state coffers when it was being built as one of Ludwig’s many vanity projects. He died under mysterious circumstances in a lake whilst being transported…..some allege he was prematurely “helped on his way” because state taxpayers and politicians were getting tired of so much money being spent on his luxury living. Anyway, whilst the main structure is mostly complete, much of the interior fit-out and decor is still a slow work in gradual progress. It’s a big tourist draw now though and I believe that ticket sales gradually fund the slow and painstaking completion of the interior to the original plans.

Neuschwanstein is a crap castle. Switzerland has some of the most spectacular mountains and lakes in the Alps.

Well - that depends upon what you want from a castle I guess! You have to accept that it is not really a defensive castle / fortress, but more of a fantasy / folly thing that was built “because somebody could”.
