I don't care what genres you're typically a fan of, this song has always been the epitome of "not complex, but just sounds fucking good". It's a little repetitive, but you don't need to be some hardcore goth/industrial head to always have thought that this song BANGS 🤘 Edit: also I know Korn - Blind is on the poll... PLEASE try and get to covering that song at some point, it's basically the exact song that birthed the entire genre of Nu Metal

@Trepanation21
@Trepanation21 2 жыл бұрын
I think it's pretty universal in rock that White Zombie was one of the bands you turned up the volume for pretty much across the board. They were regulars on pretty much every rock station. Their shit was just too fun to *not*, you'd be the only grumpy ass rocker in the room if you didn't get hype when it came on. Old heads might not have vibed with it, but I don't remember Zombie being any kind of controversial in the scene, they were just doin something different and had a lot of success crossing over from their lane. Funny enough, that porno intro was part of the gimmick that added to the fun. Everybody heard the iconic intro music and knew that the moaning was going to come next before the full groove sets in. It just had a really fun and rebellious build to it that motivated you to crank it up with a grin. That rebellious fun really is a fundamental of groundbreaking rock through the years, and that sort of 70s grimey, funky energy is definitely strong with Zombie.

This song is part of metal's evolution in the edgelord '90s, somewhere between Nine Inch Nails and Type O Negative. Very few metalheads would say this is bullshit. Primitive and repetitive, yes, but a big piece of metal history.

To be honest a lot of industrial music is repetitive. It's such a predominant characteristic tha I would say it's part of the appeal. When I was 14, I took guitar lessons from Myles Kennedy at a music store. When my dad came to pick me up I asked him to enter a contest at the counter from the local radio station called Rock 106 and it was for an Ibanez Iceman guitar and backstage passes to White Zombie. We ended up winning and White Zombie ended up being my first concert ever. Meeting the band was really cool, but Rob Zombie walked in and did not seem happy to be there and as soon as he said hi, he was back out again. Then, the signed photo I got was stolen a week later. Still, a pretty cool experience though.

Not surprised at all. How was the rest of the band? I assume not primadonnas like Rob... When they were on set filming their scenes for the movie Airheads, Rob bogarted the band's bus and locked everyone else out so they didn't have their own place to change or chill, or go to the bathroom. But they ended up having a great time cutting up and having fun with Farley and Sandler and Buscemi and all the cast. Rob just moped around by himself in the bus.

WHITE ZOMBIE > Rob Zombie Solo. This was the song that got them on the radio for the mainstream. When it played in a night club, a metalhead could rock to it, an industrial fan who goes to raves could vibe to it, and a pop fan could get into the groove. At this time Rob was also an animator and made short films. The title More Human Than Human is a direct line from Blade Runner, a movie about human replicants. Other lines in this song from that movie too. If you want to hear a more metal White Zombie song then listen to Black Sunshine. If you listen to it while driving you won't even notice your foot getting heavy until you realize you are going 90 on the freeway. Also check out Thunderkiss '65.

Got this the day the single came out. As soon as the keyboards came in, I was sure they'd tanked their career -- the techno crowd who'd be into the keys would get turned off by the aggression, the thrash crowd would be into the aggro but not the keys or the sparsity of the guitar, the grunge crowd would turn their noses up at Rob's new nasal tone, and the Top 40 crowd wouldn't have any reference to make sense of any of it. They'd shrunk their audience to "people who were into both Nine Inch Nails and Ministry" (a very small segment who liked heavy guitars, retro synths, and distorted nasal screaming, yet didn't give a shit that neither of the aforementioned bands were considered "authentically industrial" or "authentically metal" by genre purists). I was positive of it. The album went double platinum. Nobody ever accused me of being a prophet.

The sound evolved from Ministry. Around this time, a lot of hard rock groups started mimicking Ministry's fashion, and use of electronica. Al *Ministry put it all together. He is the man behind what would become industrial metal. Rob is still cool but don't get it twisted. Ministry is the reason for NIN, and Rob's evolution to this sound. "You know what you are" is my shit. Also, his side project "Attack ships on fire" by the Revolting Cocks is great. Al is the Prince of industrial. Producing, writing and arranging. Funny enough, the tracks I recommended don't have guitar or hardly any. If you wanna hear guitar, Ministry's "Burning Inside" is a classic.

This definitely blew up and it's still catchy despite the repetitiveness. But, I agree with others who say there are better songs on this album. I was listening to Fu Manchu earlier today and think you guys would really dig them. Something like Laserbl'ast or Hogwash. They're definitely responsible for some of the best grooves in stoner rock.

I'd never heard it until 2018, they broke up while I was still in primary school so I just missed out on their popular era. Rob Zombies solo work was okay but it never really clicked for me so I assumed White Zombie would be the same. Until I had to find songs for a Halloween event so finally listened to them and their music blew my mind. Should have been listening to them years ago but better late than never I guess.

White Zombie was kind of hard to pin down for me. Definitely some industrial influence, electronica, groove metal...it felt like a convergence of styles to me. Little bit of the slide in there, which is very blues. My favorite off astro-creep was supercharger heaven. And did when it came out. Lol. More Human Than Human was my walkout song when I was fighting Muay Thai at 16 yrs old. Got a LOT of funny looks when his wife started moaning in the beginning.

That's not his wife. His relationship with bassist Sean Yseult was over by the time they recorded any of these songs. The woman moaning in the background is an audio sample lifted from a 70's era cult classic Post Apocalyptic porno film called Cafe Flesh.
