Never would I have heard this song if not here. I dont listen to rap/hip hop much at all, but I will probably listen to more now. I had a biased impression that rap was shallow, non musical and simplistic. Your breakdown of this and other rap songs though have given me an appreciation of the actual musical genius behind much of it. Using Cm Em Fmaj chords as a base upon which they build a "feel" that fits the narrative of the lyrics. This song for example uses what sounds to me like a riff on a Gmaj9 and they go from the first note "G" and step down to the F# before climbing up to an "A", like the lyrics take you from "I was putting in work" to "You got worked on" and climbs to "...me and them got history". Its a brilliant up and down flow to both notes and words that match each other very well! Its simple, yes, but there are a great many prog rock songs that are overly complicated just for complication sake and dont give half the emotion of a song like this where everything just works together. Wow, see what your channel does? Haha, thanks. Looking forward to your next video!

Definitely feeling Russ's energy on this one and you can feel it in his delivery and his lyrics were raw and carried the beat. However a point you guys made that I agree with was the mix of condescending and confident tone he gave because there's nothing wrong with getting help to get big cuz many legendary artists had help but at the same time it ain't right for the artist to get screwed by a label industry. Final thoughts it was a great song, great lyrics, beat could be worked on, and the subject matter creates deliberation. Good looks on the reaction Ryan & George.

The reason I believe Russ has this stand point is because he had the money and he wasnt struggling so he never had to accept a shitty deal. These other rappers coming from the streets are just trying to survive and that is the reason they sign the shitty deals Russ says not to take. When you are struggling like that you are willing to take any opportunity you can that will put food on your plate.

This is the first reaction video of you guys' that I've watched and I gotta say, I enjoyed it. I respect the fact that you actually looked at the bigger picture from both sides instead of just reacting to fire bars. You actually delved into the content a little more, which is necessary for songs like this one. Good stuff. I subscribed and I'll definitely be watching more. Sidenote: Have you two reacted to any Witt Lowry, Joyner Lucas, or King Los? Three somewhat undiscovered guys that are in my top 5 of up and coming artists. Although Los has been around for a little over a decade, he's never really been talked about all that much, imo. Definitely one of the best out, as far as lyricism and technique are concerned.

I have been a fan of Russ for a good two years now - atleast. He has a different vibe, you may like it or not, but the lyrics are always great. He is a good singer too. I personaly like his beats, but maybe i'm just tired of all the complicated music of today and like Russ's simple and more old school stuff. Sorry for my bad english, but i hope you understand it okay :P Three Russ songs I would recommend you: 1. Cherry Hill (very unique but one of my favourites of his). 2. Comin Thru (not one of his famous songs but it's just super good IMO). 3. Purple (Same as number two, not one of his more famous ones but great). The word to describe Russ for me is "chill". He's just super "chill" :D

Russ is a weird topic. I am not saying Russ has no talent, because he really does. BUT, he over produces, over saturates, and since he does he own beats and production, it all starts sounding the same and uninspiring. I still prefer his singing music over his raps. In my eyes, he tries far to hard to oversell the talent he does have, and he starts looking corny and predictable. As I stated, I still believe the guy has tremendous talent, and confidence is something that is important in music, and rap...but it seems the confidence can become blinding for him, and it stunts any sort of growth I feel he should have already made. I would like to see him rap under more productions that he didn't involve himself with, for the simple fact, that his new stuff is starting to sound recycled, and monotonous. You should give one of his singing tracks a listen...Losin' Control is possibly my favorite song by him. Sorry, I ramble on. But as always, great videos, even better discussions, and raw honesty. I look forward to your videos so much, as a music lover myself, and to hear perspectives from you guys, that I don't have to question intent. Thanks for developing this platform, and have a fantastic and safe weekend, guys! #freethinkers And I adore your little "rant" about perspectives, and why a lot of rappers would take a shitty deal, for the money, to make their life better. This in a nutshell, is why I have high respect for you two.
@LostInVegas7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Wesley! ''tries too hard to oversell his talent'' Great insight! We'll have to see what the rest of his music sounds like but I can foresee this being a valid critique. The next song we check out will most likely be and R&B song from him. It's always a pleasure seeing your feedback. Salute!

Miguel Martinez, Thank you, I feel like with MOST fan bases, you either have to love them completely, or they see you as hating on the artist. He still has so much time to grow, but I feel like its the same recycled songs, and subject matter, just repackaged with a new beat, and different lyrics that say similar things. Confidence is a great attribute, until you allow it to blind you. I just don't want to see Russ burn out after grinding so hard to get here.

His dad and his family didn’t have shit, man. He took money from the shows he did and gave it back to his family for fucking gas. He has a lyric where he goes “dad asks for gas money, it’s like the roles are reversed”. So the studio wasn’t much and he built it from shows. Before giving “food for thought” know your facts. Maybe he had his parents, but that’s it. Listen to Parkstone Drive and see how having a family doesn’t always mean a good thing to be in.

That said, for God's sake, I know you Both would appreciate the intricacies of "Jonathan" by Hail Mary Mallon. Great reaction guys! Love the breakdowns and food for thought. I really like Russ’ music and I give him props for doing everything on his own, but he comes off really egotistical to me. It’s cool that he does everything by himself, but he can’t shit on every other rapper just for getting some help. If an artist has craft, getting boost and help from others doesn’t deplete that craft. Talent is talent regardless of how it’s expressed. Great video guys. Waiting for that Logic to come back! xD
