OminousWaveOfMusic Well, I still see stuff from Hooky on Twitter every day and Bernard is on there, too. These guys would tap into a huge audience if they did one Joy Division song. Admittedly, their audience is sort of underground in the states, but they are HUGE everywhere else. Particularly in the U.K. and Germany. Joy Division has strangely grown in popularity in recent years over there. Just google some of their merch. They're on everything from coffee mugs to freakin' dog collars nowadays. Being a purist, I kinda hate that, but then, it's cool they're so recognized now, too.

When i was like 9 years old my mom asked what i wanted for my birthday. I said " I want a Rock and roll album." (Heavy Metal hadnt been coined yet) She went to the record store, no idea what she was looking for, and asked the cashier " My son wants a Rock and Roll album, can you recommend one?" She bought me Heaven And Hell, and i cant put into words how it changed my life.

"the guitarist was going on for 2 minutes.. fingers bleeding"... well, you just stumbled on a story about how heavy metal came to be. he is missing two fingertips on the right hand so he has prosthetics to enable him to play, so its unlikely that his fingers would bleed from playing. How did that happen you wonder? He worked at the factory as a teenager and on the last day on job, just before going all in on a music carreer a machine cut off his two fingertips. He is left handed so if you see him playing you'll see he holds the guitar the other way compared to other guitarists. Instead of trying to learn playing by switching sides he devised some prosthetics himself, made from leather jacket to enable him to play the way he did before. But in the process he had to tune down his guitar to enable him to bend strings more easily. That tuning down is what gave them that heavy sound that was so unlike anything else, and what gave spark to the whole genre. The end.

I think I said this in one of your other videos but if you want to hear Dio at his absolute best then Stargazer by Rainbow is THE song. I'm a huge Black Sabbath fan (Ozzy and Dio eras) but Stargazer is just a whole other level for Dio. And that song came out in 1976. To this day it's still my favorite song that Ronnie James Dio sings.

Dio Black Sabbath was very different from Ozzy Black Sabbath, although both of them amazing. Ozzy tended to sing over the riffs, and Dio tended to sing over the chords. Tony Iommi pointed this out once in an interview and you can really notice it when you go back and listen.

I think Ozzy's singing peaked in the mid '70s, around Vol. 4, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, and Sabotage. After that? He ruined his voice with alcohol and cocaine. Shame, because he developed a pretty damned good control of melody, pitch, and cadence. Never had much range, but he still managed to make the most of a severely limited instrument.

That's why they liked NeObliviscaris :) Instead of keeping with the 32nd notes of the bass drum, the bassist would play 8ths and 4s over the fast double kick and it would still sound groovy.

Ronnie James Dio one of the founding members of Blackmore's Rainbow. I credit DIO for the immense popularity of Rainbow. This was at a stage where Black Sabbath had just had to "Release" Ozzy as the lead singer and Dio just happened to be post-Rainbow. I was a huge DIO fan when my Sabbath Fan friend told me he had just joined Sabbath. Found the album and took it directly to a friends house (shout out to Rus). We put the platter on and were hit with the first song "Neon Knights". Worth the spin if you guys ever get a chance. I was blown away on first listen and still this is one of my favorite Sabbath Albums despite it being in a transitional period of their career.

70K views and 3.8k comments in 19 hours from a an almost 40 year old song... not only does that mean this was long over due it should also tell you that we want more Dio. You did Holy Diver (Dio, Campbell, Bain) from Dio, which while a great song, you should have gone for something like Last in Line or All the Fools Sailed Away to capture the true spirit of the band not to mention a better appreciation of Ronnie's Dio versatility as a vocalist. Now you've heard Heaven & Hell (Dio, Iommi) from a Dio led Black Sabbath, which is completely different animal than Ozzy led Sabbath. With Geezer Butler's lyrics and Ozzy's monotone nasal voice you get a doomier, dirtier, rawer sound where as with Ronnie handling the lyrics, vocals and co-writing the music you get a much cleaner, polished and edgier sound. Completely different, both great. I feel Ronnie really brought out the best in Tony too... the versatility in Ronnie's voice allowed Tony to do a lot more than he could with Ozzy at the helm. So now it would be nice if you were introduced to late 1970's Dio led Rainbow and Stargazer (Dio, Blackmore) is the song to play. It's not the only song you should listen to with Rainbow but it should be the first. The song is a masterpiece from beginning to end with unbelievable guitar work from Ritchie Blackmore, great keyboard work from Tony Carey and an iconic drum intro by Cozy Powell. What makes this one special though is Ronnie Dio's vocals. PinkMetalHead listened to it during one of her live requests show about 3 months ago and she actually stopped the song halfway thru to let us know that her nipples got hard because of the vocals! Now I can't guarantee you that but you're not human if you don't at least get goosebumps a time or two. His voice is that good.... You two are great and have fantastic chemistry.... Your channel is light years ahead of all the other channels with this format. You simple have no peers. Keep it up....
