Jon - what makes Lost Lakes such an enjoyable channel to watch is simply that whatever happens just happens. For me, it’s the beauty you find in the minutiae along the way. It’s your humble attitude and ever present respect for nature. It’s the excitement you exude when you may or may not make it into a hidden lake you’ve been studying on a map and imagining for months. It’s the way you describe feelings we all have (if social media and cellphones are a disease, this is the cure; or in another video when you talked about how you can’t hardly enjoy a moment of pure serenity without at the same time worrying how we as a species are destroying it). Don’t worry about what you will or won’t find or experience on your journeys. It’s the unknown / unscripted / genuine nature of these videos that keeps me hooked. Unrelated, I just ordered my first hammock and am eagerly awaiting delivery. I’ll be sure to give you a shout out in the review. Also, I ordered some LL merch - the truckers cap. It’s a great cap, but my head looks stupid in it :). If you get a chance, I’d happily re-order it as a regular (i.e., non trucker) style cap.

Well doing the French river with my children we found that termite infested wood burns slow. We put it in a can in our canoe. The smoke keep the horse fly’s and mosquitoes away. I believed we learned the trick from the Survivorman. It has something to do with the termites burning that keeps them away.👍👍❤️🇨🇦

I have recently started watching a lot of camping videos from up north to mentally counteract the 106 deg F temps we're having here in Texas at the moment. Your videos are outstanding in every way. The photography is stunningly beautiful; the variety of camera angles (drone, underwater, etc) is delightful; the post-production elements you add in other of your videos, such as split screen, subtitles and captions, make these productions rival the professionals. And the audio! Oh my!--to clearly hear the sounds of nature! I've yet to find another channel that even comes close to yours in this regard. Back when Iwas guiding fly fishing in the Czech Republic,15 years ago. A client hooked into a fish I had only seen pictures of, after some research it was a tiger trout. the small stream was about 30 miles long. the bottom half was only brown trout. The upper half was brook trout. no tiger trout introductions were ever done. Years later when I came back to Reno Nevada. I happened to meet Zeb Hogan, A fisheries Biologist for The University of Nevada at Reno. He did the Hunt for big fish on Nat Geo. So I showed him the picture, He was amazed, but also not sceptical. The right conditions this can happen. He said by his best estimate it would be about a 1 in a million shot , to have this happen in nature.

From my river fishing experience walking from one river to the next. Best practice is to walk into the bush with either a broken down rod OR put the rod tip behind you handle in your hand. Way better less tangles. Great vid my friend ! Tbay

I really find this style of hammock intriguing. I always found traditional hammocks were hard on my back because I was always sleeping in a “bow” position. Shows are great! We went north of Timmons Ontario and portaged in 3 or 4 lakes....We had a Herters fiberglass canoe. You could see through it, but it wasn't light! It weighed 120 lbs.. It did have a keel to keep it going straight on lake crossings, plus dad had a 1 1/2 hp. Hiawatha outboard...way better than paddling against the current! Growing up, I think I was on nearly every navigable stream in the lower peninsula of Michigan.... 2 of my favorites were the upper Muskegon from Reedsburg down to Leota, and the Cut river which flows between Higgins lake and Houghton lake. They had no cabins or any camps on them at all except the Muskegon did have the "high banks canoe camps".Those were built back in the 30's by the CCC boys and they saw little use except during archery deer season.

One time on the top of chain lakes I was in a stream/waterfall , looked down and deep in the brook I found a pint of Canadian whiskey and a half case of Michalobe beer the box was ruined and the labels were gone but the beer couldn't have been colder good day

Fire starter tip - collect the lint from your clothes dryer at home, pack it into an empty toilet roll tube, seal the ends with a little duct tape and bingo, a light weight fire kit from stuff you would otherwise throw away.

John, here's a tip from an old fly fisherman: when you have to bushwhack a fair distance with a rod, unrig it. It'll go through the puckerbrush so much quicker and easier. The time you save will more than cover re-rigging when you get to the water.

Actually, my mother was a GREAT cook when it came to pastry! her pie crust was like filo dough, light and airy, so when it came to any type fruit pie, I really miss it, and no one can duplicate it. BTW, I grew up in a canoe...Dad, and my sister and I spent a lot of time canoeing nearly every stream in lower Michigan. In the 50's and sixties, the upper Muskegon had very good Northern Pike fishing. We always used Daredevils and Lazy Ike's. Had to make sure you had a steel leader, we didn't have spider wire. When I got out of high school in June '64, we went on a Canadian fishing trip somewhere north-east of Timmons & we had plenty of black flies! But we had an Old-Town wooden canoe with an outboard motor bracket which we used a 1 1/2 hp Hiawatha motor. Dad and my brother Bill also went on a trip to that chain of lakes you made a video on that spans the U.S.-Canadien border. I didn't go on that one, but I have their pictures. I'm 72 now, so I don't go on any trips like that anymore. I enjoy the videos!
