I head back into the Australian Wilderness for a 3 day trout fishing adventure, where I land my first Rainbow Trout! I set up my tarp and wild camp by a river and enjoy some solitude in this beautiful location.

You’d be able to see into the water with good polarised glasses. Try a mepps size zero vibric lure. Two pound lite line. Deadly on trout in a small creek. Wade up the river keeping your lure in the “strike zone” longer, or in the runs where the fish might be.

Cox River rainbows are mostly limited to winter spawn run. Steel heads from deep in Warragamba Dam. They would run after a bit of a rise in the river,so timing is everything.

Hi Scotty, watching you remainded me of my days when I started fishing for trout with spinners and hard plastic lures.. All my fortunes turned around when I took up fly fishing i caught so many fish that I retired my lures to the dark obiss of my fishing cupboard. Give it a go you will never go back. Fly fishing is no longer cost prohibitive, as it was in my day. The first fish you catch on a fly line is on me. Tight lines my friend, I look forward to many more of your videos and more fish in your camp frypan.

Nice vid mate. Little tip for the trout, in rivers and streams, try straight winding instead of jerking/jigging the lure. Go a little faster than the current so the lure is working. Usually if you use a slow or jerky retrieve, the trout have too much oportunity to look at the lure and realise its not right. But its not a rule or anything. That rainbow was pretty nice! Keep the grouse content coming! :)
@dazzaoutandabout4870

Agree agree. Stop jerking the lure Scotty. The action is built into the lure. Straight winding. Cheers mate. You’ll catch them in the places your going.

Yes wombat. Cox River? Went here with my boys in the early 90’s. Have you tried some of the Tassie walks? If you like the bush and adventure Tassie is awesome. Have a look at Rob Parsons on KZbin. Another great video Scotty, thank you. Thrown many a fly down there during the spawning season. Both the main river and the smaller tributary upstream that you camped on. They are had to catch this time of the year because they are locked into breeding so I wouldn't be too disheartened. Most strikes are out of aggression as opposed to hunger.

Love your work Scotty, I've been cramming your videos in while I'm recovering from a hip replacement, and my wife and I think we may be a little bit converted. Converted from the 4wd plus trailer packed to the hilt type camping, to walk in - walk out hiking type camping, starting with a few small trips. With some of my trips to trout country in the past, rather than use lures (some streams are very small) I would use a small hook on an un-weighted line (6lb) and put a grub/worm or grasshopper etc on and sneak up to the edge where some small rapids ran into a pool, gently lower the bait and let the current carry and naturally present it to the waiting fish further down and out of sight. This method is very successful and I've even had trout jump out trying to grab the bait as I lowered it. Love the videos, keep it up 👍

What a beautiful stream .I can.t believe you didn't catch more fish there . And ya man , that trout slime is a protective coating which is somewhat of an antibacterial layer on their skin . Do not grab them with dry hands .Always wet your hands in the water before you grab them . Trout are a very sensitive , and they can get skin infections very easily if you rub the slime off with your dry hands .
