Jon - you have an inherent appreciation of the questions your viewers may have as they watch. You knew we may be wondering why you weren't using snowshoes on the hike in, and addressed it. You explained that you only cut standing dead timber, answering a possible criticism from your viewers. And some how you knew in the morning when showing the wind blown lake surface that I wanted to know how cold it was. Right on que you show the thermometer. Well done and thanks.

I have watched dozens of videos of Canadian camping staying at home during the covid catastrophe. I just found your channel, subscribed and looking forward to hours more great viewing, In our younger days we did a lot of spring and fall canoeing in Ontario's parks. Now I kayak the North Channel of Lake Huron in summer, and snowshoe in winter.

Thank you so much for your videos. I can’t wait for the next one. I live through your videos as I do not think I can do those things as much as I would love to do so. Thats what happens when one gets too old to go hiking through the snow to camp in a hot tent. Oh how much I wish I could go out and do that but by you doing these trips I live part of my life through you. Thanks again and keep up,the great videos

I am so jealous. I am too old now to do such a trip. I am from Minnesota and love Ontario. When I was a young person I did winter expeditions with female juvenile delinquents. These were in Minnesota. In the summer we did 2 week canoeing and portaging trips in Ontario. I also love going to the Giant camping. Because of the COVID-19 panademic this will be the 2nd summer we will not be able to go to Canada.

We survived our winter week. Two mornings at -11C. Didn't lose power, though I had our generator ready to go. The well and septic didn't freeze. We did have one pipe freeze briefly. We did get an ice dam leak into the garage when it warmed up and was raining. Lucky for me our son Thomas was here and it didn't take us long to get it flowing off the roof. And I did stay off the roads.

Another great video! I have the Kni-Co Alaskan as well and it's been a great stove. Little trick I learned was to angle it so the back end is slightly higher than the front...this helps get the smoke up and out of the pipe and allows less smoke into the tent. Someone told me that trick and it worked really well!

The Cremation of Sam McGee is committed (almost) to memory. "There are strange things done in the midnight sun by the men who moil for gold; the Arctic trails have their secret tales that would make your blood run cold..." Always good to recite on winter camping trips. My favourite line: "Talk of your cold! through the parka's fold it stabbed like a driven nail."

As a soft Limey I'd be 'inter-me-tent' asleep most of the time. Another brilliant little film, and kudos to Erin's sister (she must have seen the previous films so major kudos). I hope you bring us a summer camp at this lake just so we can compare...although I don't expect you to be pulling sledges across, I think even walking on water is beyond you two. The Chaga is less dense than wood and will dry quicker, I suspect the radiated heat from the stove was enough to catch it, as it was to pop the sleep mat, although a spark can't ruled out. All the more reason to have that CO alarm up and running it's simple little things that cause accidents. Keep safe and look after each other :)
@LostLakes
@LostLakes 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks rhialobran! Agreed on the CO alarm! Odds are very low but I'm not keen on staking my life on it. I've actually been here in the canoe and it was magical: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqjSp5qDp7Gcp8U This was also our starting lake on our "Boreal Beatdown" video :) Probably been to this lake close to 10 times now which is largely because it's close to home, but it's also spectacular.

Excellent. I don’t know about that quinzee, pretty claustrophobic. Glad to see the roof didn’t cave though.

Great video Jon and Erin! I am surprised there was still a forest left over with the two girls operating the saw mill!

Great video Guys. Beautiful scenery, nice steep lake sides. Looks like a great lake trout fishing lake. Stay safe and happy

Thanks Doug! Apparently it was an outstanding lake trout fishery at one point. Now, it's a very tough bite

That's to bad. Over fished maybe? Or not enough bait fish. Lake trout aren't very hardy not like rainbows. I enjoy your new channel.

@@douggibson9084 yeah sounds like it. Apparently guys used to be able to limit out on lakers easily. That can only last so long. Appreciate it!

Time to turn those sleds into “Smitty Sleds”. Great adventure and loved the sun dogs around the sun 🌞

True Tina, we've been wanting to, but both sleds currently just squeeze into the car. With the smitty attachment they won't, but someone was telling me about a collapsible attachment so I gotta look into that. Sounds like it would be so much easier
