I'm Canadian, your sense of humor is in tact. Bob and Doug McKenzie are true Canadian legends, though beer is more to their liking. You put so much effort, research and thought into these videos and it shows. Keep it up, you're killin' it!

Loved this stuff. From the initial smokey softness to the getting punched in the face by the rye, then back to the smokey out notes. Everything about this whiskey just ticked every box for me. 🤘🏻

Nice intro reminded me of the CBC radio show The Dead Dog Cafe from the 90s. With the laws that keep Canadians paying way to much for Whisky don't blame them for keeping their own good stuff. The Woodford Reserve Rye you mentioned is better than their Bourbon to me but nothing like a all Rye Whisky. Treny and C are great. Canada has a wealth of WhiskyTubers these guys FoodQuig and Malted in Montreal are some of my favorites and I Patreon them. Looking forward to the rest of your world Whisky series. Cheers

Cheers Tim. Totally agree on the Woodford. Can't take to their bourbon at all but their rye is passable. And not forgetting Rob at WhiskeyInThe6. He's Canadian isn't he? Isn't he 🤔 I absolutely love Canada. Have been twice (when I was younger) and just found it such a beautiful country full of honest, polite, down to earth people. I want to go back and take the kids and hopefully, one day I will. Damned expensive trip though 😄.

Very good video Jim, I'm having some Canadian Unobtanium Whisky that we keep at home, Alberta Premium 100% Rye, cask strength. 65.1% ABV

Cheers Peter. That sounds great. 100% Rye at 65.1%...that's gotta be a tasty one?

@@WhiskeyNovice Yes, it is a tasty Canadian Rye, made down the road from me in Calgary. Very spicy, not too hot, in spite of the 65.1%.

Nice video, Jim...I'm always surprised & interested to see how everyone's tasting notes can differ & which part of it can be mutual as well as it remains a very personal experience. What was the band behind you ? I didn't recognize them...Good shout out as well for these guys (won't spoil who here, people you gotta see the video) & Keep up the good work ! True spoiler now: I think I can announce already (will do it later on on my channel, because another live comes first this saturday...) we will go live in around a week on my channel for Saint Patrick (note March, 17 evening, malt mates) with an Irish theme tasting, glad to have you there, Jim, thanks in advance....Love Trenny & C too...Besides I will also have Whisky Jason soon on my channel, to speak about German whiskies ! Cheers !

Cheers Greg. That was Nickelback in the picture. I thought with them being Canadian I'd put them in. They always seem to get a poor reputation but I've always found them very tight. Good shout out my friend. Looking forward to next Tuesday. I'm doing my first "official" live feed on Monday night, so I'll get my advertising for it out of the way and then spread the word about yours closer to the time. Cheers.

@@WhiskeyNovice ok thanks, haven't really paid attention to this band to be honest, can"t even describe how they do sound like...My personal Canadian early (or still now for some) tastes were Neil Young, Heart, Rush, Saga, Triumph, Anvil, and many others I can't remember, but for recent times they might me more Metal related ...(heavier I mean) such as Dysrhythmia/Gorguts/Behold The Arctopus, Augury, etc...while the Metal scene is also exciting in Ireland...Primordial is good, but I have to say my favorite current Irish band is a Post-rock one, called God is An Astronaut...! Good luck for your next live (not the first, right ?) I'll be there as much as I can (if not too early)

@@GregsWhiskyGuide Thanks Greg. As someone who's musical tastes lie somewhere in the early 1970s I find it hard to discuss the modern stuff 🤣🤣. The only bands of recent times, (still producing music) I'd listen to are Queens of the Stone Age and the Foo Fighters. And even they're a bit long in the tooth now. Apart from that...I'd rather listen to old Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, Fleetwood Mac, etc. To be honest, I RARELY listen to music now. I think, because I do it for a living, I can't be bothered wasting my spare time with it as well.
@GregsWhiskyGuide4 жыл бұрын
@@WhiskeyNovice Iunderstand, especially if you do music for a living, that could be heavy to spend hours like me/others to discover someone else's music (yet sure it could inspire you though) when you haven't time enough to practise yours...About Ireland, forgot to mention a 1970/80's band I liked a lot, Thin Lizzy...Cheers !

Whiskey Novice I know that feeling! On my last one it took 3 recordings. Thought I’d nailed it on the second only to discover on the edit that I forgot to plug the mic in🤦♂️ but then, I tried to put the cereal in the fridge earlier & the milk in the cupboard, so it’s hardly a surprise🙄🤪

This was a door-opener for me. Lot 40 was the first rye I ever tried and I fell immediately in love. More with rye in general, than with this specific whisky I guess, but I was sipping it along with your video and still like it very much.
@WhiskeyNovice4 жыл бұрын
Nice one cheers mate. Yeah it's one of those for me, that once I tried it, all those Woodfords and Bulleits, etc. just stopped being good. Now, with me and rye, it's got to be RYE and not just "51% in the mash-bill" rye.
@ThisIsNotACigar4 жыл бұрын
That was the main reason, I chose Lot 40, when I wanted to taste some rye (the others being good reputation and good value). I just wanted to know, whether I like or dislike the real, unmasked thing. But to be fair, I haven't had a 51%-rye yet, so I can't say anything about it. There's a bottle of Pikesville sitting on my shelf, waiting to be opened. This will educate me on some point in the future. I'm pretty curious, since they rave about it quite a lot in the US. Cheers, mate!

Canada does not export much good whisky, that's correct. But, more specifically, they don't even send it Eastern Canada. I can't get much more in Nova Scotia than you can in th UK. It's very odd.
