I just don't understand this thing about scrums. Does Tony not know that league is already a thing? Why do we want to change union into league? Go watch league if you don't like union nobody is forcing anyone to watch union. I guess if I was an ABs fan I would also be excited for the new laws. Union is copying League already. Goalpost drop out, 50/20. I actually agree with him about not letting anyone join the ruck after "use it" has been called, and I agree that most of what are now penalties at the scrum should just be free kicks. Nobody wants League scrums in Union, but the scrums are just getting worse and worse in Union, so something needs to change.

Guys, you bounce off each other so well. You are like Chalk and Cheese but it works. I need your advice, which Super Rugby team would you recommend that I support/follow ? Like Tony mentions, I think I need to pick a team and follow them and in time I'll learn more about the other teams and the rivalry. I actually found myself looking up those areas of NZ on Google maps which you guys were talking about. Quick question, is the north Island the one that is the most Northerly ? I may have miss-understood it, but when I looked up some of the places that you guys mentioned were on the North Island, to me, they looked as if they were on the Island that was the most Southerly. If that make sense... Just after watching Leinster scrape over the line against South Africa's best club team, man it was close. This summers test series in ZA is going to be so tense, no really, I think the Bokkes will really put it up to Ireland. Honestly, I reckon they will win at least one game... Sorry, I couldn't keep a straight face. Oh my... Methinks its fairly obvious who is the best team in the World at the moment and they are definitely not from the continent of Africa. The Bulls got properly spanked by Leinster. The RDS is the Royal Dublin Society. I'm surprised that we haven't renamed it by now. That's not what the proposed law change is; referee's will still be allowed to penalise for all the existing scrum infringements. The change is just that once a free-kick is given you have to take it as a kick, rather than opting to have a scrum instead.

R.D.S. stands for Royal Dublin Society. It's about as posh as it gets. When it's not a rugby union ground, it's hosting prestigious equestrian shows and world-famous conferences and fashion events. Regardless of that, the Leinster rugby match nights are awesome. Very fan friendly, and there's been a massive grassroots investment with irish rugby at large, away from the highly dominant private schools feeder system. Love to educate you fine gents more over a pint of highly overpriced guinness served in a sacrilegious plastic glass sometime 😂cheers lads. Great poddy

I don't keep up with URC so don't know who's playing and if any injuries. haven't watched one game or seen any stats but the URC is really on fire down here from what I hear. so, I'm guessing it shouldn't be a blowout but a tight contested match, however. going off by how you've asked saying "given the Leinster team named" it sounds like they have an attacking side that can punish weak defense, shift momentum and also meet with strong physicality to turnover or counter. so, bulls will either need to get up early and apply pressure to force errors or keep it tight and capitalize on it. again, I don't watch URC but sounds like good breakfast to tune into this easter weekend. best of luck

To youre comment about finding rugby gears in stores in respective regions, when i went to perth last month, i found Hurricanes, Highlanders, Waratahs, and Reds jerseys in the sports store down the road from my hotel. I couldn't find a single bit of force merch except for at the force game itself (in which i bought a cap). That was strange to me.

Actually the Boks were originally known as Springbokken. The name Springboks an anglisization ...Name came about in 1906 in a conversation between team manager John Carden and captain Paul Roos who prior to their very first tour which was 20 matches to be played in the British Isles they were concerned that the British press would give them some derogatory nickname so to preempt simply on a whim they decided on Springboks and had the emblem stitched onto the jerseys ..Incidentally they won all 20 matches and Boks had arrived ..

Love the pod, rarely comment but it was a good episode and made me think about whether SR is actually better this year or not. I think the trouble is that as a competition the fandom is a bit artificial and thus weak. Just to wind up all the League hater's who comment here - if you compare the fan response for SR to the NRL you'd be hard to convince me that most fans actually care whether their team wins or loses. I'm a big NPC fan so have always guessed that its because the teams are, but aren't, local. Wellington barely turns up for the Horrorcanes (even when they're doing well) and then if they play outside of the big smoke its against some crap Aussie team nobody thinks has any chance so even the provincial fans can be bothered going. How much tickets to a League match cost compared to a SR game? Given SR is basically a TV enterprise i'd wager the product on the box would look a lot better if they could get bigger crowds in - but even if they halved the prices I dunno whether the product can really get that many kiwis into the stands. Its been interesting this year with the Crusaders being so stuffed by injuries, and the games are flowing a bit better - but its still not quite the same entertainment it was in the late 90s - early 00s. The balance between referee penalties giving territory vs teams working for it is a lot better, but defences are still bending and not breaking so the game tends to devolve into kick tennis a lot still.

Yeah a balance of safety and speed aye. Scrums used to be set a lot faster but were less safe. That being said I think there is room to speed it up compared to what it is now - a lot of meandering into place

@@TwoCentsRugby I think you're right - they have to take time to make sure the packs are set when it comes time to the scrum but there's usually at least 20-30 seconds wasted just getting them all in the right place. I think that's where removing the scrum option from a free-kick actually makes sense. Referee's are already trying to get packs to hurry up and get into the lineout or get ready for a scrum, or to get the half back to play the ball from a ruck. The obvious sanction for dallying is a free kick to the opposition team. But the last thing you want is for them to then opt for a scrum and more time wasting getting ready for it.

In addition to the rectangular National Stadium which should be for the Kiwis and All Whites as well as the All Blacks Auckland also needs a new oval stadium for Cricket plus there is also Bill Foleys plan to build a 17K Stadium on the Waterfront for his new A-League team Auckland FC which could possibly be used for the Blues and Wahs as well.

The objective in a rugby game is to score tries. However, most law changes help the defending team. If a player is held up over the goalline, the defending team gets a goalline dropout. Players can't score against the goalpost anymore. The attacking team gets the hurry up at rucks and scrums. Now, scrums are going to be less of an attacking weapon. It seems ball in play time is the new magic word. The objective is not scoring tries anymore but ball in play time. I remember a time when rugby became all about phases and teams would take the ball through twenty phases and not score. It was just as boring. The average American NFL game lasts three hours and twelve minutes, but the actual playing time is less than one hour. Yes, I am sure all those American football fans are going to switch to Rugby Union because there are now five or ten minutes more ball in play time in union. Only a moron can believe that will be the case. Those people wouldn't even know the difference in ball in play time. Even a rugby lover that grew up with rugby will not be able to tell the difference between the ball in play time by just watching a game. As for growing the game. Grassroots development is how you grow a game. That is why most professional rugby players started playing the game at a young age. It is unbelievable to think people don't realize that simple fact. Sevens and League have much more ball in play and is much faster, and yet nobody gives a shite. Everybody still watches and supports union in much bigger numbers. I still have to see any evidence that any of the suggested law changes will attract more supporters. It seems more like some marketing company was asked what will improve rugby union to a bigger audience, and they came up with all these buzz words and narratives that have nothing to do with the game. Rugby Union is a special game, and the grassroots supporters are the most important people. Not these imaginary unidentified supporters out there somewhere in the world, that we think or hope will start ditching whatever sport they follow to watch rugby union because there is ten minutes more ball in play time. Give me a break, total BS.

League is terrible, made for selfish glory boys. Union has accountability for selfish glory boys, you lose the ball at the ruck. We love the scrum. Some teams play touch rugby and some teams are good at set pieces. We all cant play the same nonsense.

20minute red cards do not make sense. A player gets sent off for committing a serious/dangerous offense and their team suffers for the remainder of the match, not for a quarter of the match. If some people have an issue with that then they should not commit dangerous fouls.

NZ also has plenty of problems btw - a test ground for the WEF and things like mandated vaccines and the like. I. for one, would not move from SA to NZ. In some ways the negatives in SA are our strengths, like the government inefficiency makes it difficult to control and monitor people as is happening in Europe, UK and USA. Also, our court system is probably better than in the UK and USA. Chasing the Sun 2 is meant for a SA audience. Foreigners cannot easily appreciate the SA cultural aspects of the show. I watched very little of this show. Couldn't stomach hearing the guest, so I moved on.

Why don't Neu Zeeland supporters start watching League and leave Union as it is? Scrums are part of a combination of strength and power, and the backline is all about speed. If you guys want speed, watch the league. True union is a beautiful game. Jeff Wilson and Sir John Kirwan are the two most irritating commentators in rugby union. Please remove them and get Mark in their place I like his fair balance of the game.

Yes, the Aviva was built how it is in 2013 for people in a country that are at war nearly 10 years after it was built 🙄. Sometimes things are best kept to yourself & not everything needs to be shared with other people.
