I had to look it up. Mk2 Jetta sedan (85-88) - 171.1 inches (89-92 is 172.6"). Mk4 Jetta wagon - 173.6 inches. I can't believe how close they are. Crazy!

Always blip the throttle on a mk2 cis car in order to turn the alternator on. When the battery light is on the alternator is off.

I feel like leaving the Jetta on monster truck mode would be so cool (especially up in Minot), maybe some bigger tires for the power techs and some really lights? Then once you have your forever garage, you can put air ride on the red Mk2 and take those coil overs for the grey Jetta.

You might want to swap out the voltage regulator on the alternator, when you start up that battery light on the dash should go out, the bushes in the regulator may be worn, it’s an easy and cheap swap 👍🏻

The light does go out as soon as the car gets to like 1500rpm. Should it still be replaced?

@@Mk3Smith could be easy and cheap fix as stated above regulator is one unit with brushes and a lot of companies still produce it. Also wanted to say that I absolutely love the Jetta content! It's really something that everyone can relate to (something that you can't say about all those crazy builds on KZbin). And You also drive those cars and enjoy them not just store them!

Could also be a corroded D+ connection between alternator and speedometer unit. The alternator needs the D+ connection to get "activated" after starting the engine. If the connection isn't there, the alternator won't produce any current until the engine is revved, thus the light extinguishes.

Hey man, you're videos are very helpful. I have exact same engine as yours. I would like to ask on why mines when cold, starts but dies right away, the 2nd crank it starts but missfires. I just give it a gas and then it idles fine. What do you think is the issue? Thank you!

Yeah thankfully all the cars and people at the compound are safe 🙌🏼 Passat is currently at the airport parking lot lol shoes in the rear are holding pretty well so I just did the front and I’ll be swapping to discs in the rear soon enough
