Lotus Elan SE M100 Renovation Epsiode 6

After a few days licking my wounds, it's time to get stuck back into the Lotus again. I have my to-do list and parts are arriving so I need to get stuck back in again. These are jobs I probably would have done anyway so it's not a bad thing to get them done, especially things like the brakes and headlamps. Waiting on parts to arrive is slowing things down but it's giving me the change to be meticulous about things and to correct some of the things that have bugged me since day one, such as the horrid red brake calipers. No drama in this video, but definitely some philosophy. Enjoy.

Love watching your videos. Where did you happen to find the rear brake discs?

Cheers Matthew. I got them from a breaker/parts hoarder on eBay. They needed cleaning up, though - despite being new old stock, there was quite a bit of surface rust and pitting on them. The main thing is that the bearings are good and replacements for those are easy enough to find. I will probably swap the discs for a brand new set from PNM eventually, when I upgrade the brakes themselves using their conversion kit: www.pnmparts.co.uk/lotus-elan-m100-rear-disc-0008

@@ConorTwomey Cheers Conor, thanks for the reply. I should probably take a closer look at my rear discs, but good to know that PNM has a solution. The previous owner of my car installed the 4pot calipers on the front and they're great. I'll be posting some Elan videos soon. I've learned a lot from your project!

@@carrichcashpoor Then it makes total sense to get the rears upgraded too. The stock ones really are very poor (and always on my MOT fail/advisory list). About £500 will cover it, including bearings and pads. Please send me a link to your vids, I'd love to see another car being massaged back to life!
