From a consumer stand point, i like your take. I have a hybrid vehicle for work. Its great. Its a work van and it gets 30 plus mpg. I dont think Evs are there yet for a lot of people. Regarding the environment, buying a car will never be what helps save the environment. Making a city more walkable or bike ridable, will do more to curb emissions than switching from an ev to a hybrid, but that is a whole different rant.

Accurate. After traveling Italy and seeing the copious amounts of public transport, trains, subways, trolleys, in addition to people commuting on bikes, motorcycles and other lower emissions methods - well....it was eye opening. In the USA we only have the all powerful SUV (seating for one as I commute to my coal powered job.)

I think that this car will sell like hot cakes. People will buy because it’s electric. And in Europe the governments push people (especially companies) to buy only electric vehicles. We already have some numbers. In the first six months Lotus had 17000 orders already (emiras and Eletres), which is exceptional for Lotus , so yes, this car will save Lotus. And I like it very much by the way. I’ve seen and I’m going to test drive it soon. By the way, there is a small Lotus SUV coming soon to compete with the Macan.

If it makes money for Lotus, I will not complain. Looking forward to seeing how it does and I hope for the best as far as adoption. However, I wouldn't buy it with the expectation of full self-driving anytime soon ( or ever...I think) We will get to full self-driving eventually. But not with the Eletre and not in this decade.

I couldn’t agree more on your take on EV’s. The Cayenne helped save Porsche, the Eletre will not help save Lotus. PS: you have a cute family. Safe travels

my personal opinion is that we are on the precipice of the electric revolution. there is now ample technology and early adopter buy-in to propel EVs forward. Solid state battery parks would constitue the next major milestone and I can see that being achieved in the next 3-5 yrs. as for fully autonomous driving, the litigation of accidents will always lag behind the technology. I think your timetable for its application is mildly skewed and I think another 5-10 yrs is more accurate. The above comment that states that the Eletre won't save Lotus the way the Cayenne did for porsche is incorrect. It will save Lotus from bankruptcy by diversifying, however, I doubt Lotus will take the massive leaps that Porsche did. (nor do I want them to) Lotus should strive to be a profitable boutique brand that remains loyal to its principal and customer base. This is the first attempt at EVs and SUVs. I just expect there to be a learning curve. What I see holds promise as long as the original vision remains

I can only hope that adopters of electric vehicles stay that way. The technology is there but the dispersion of it really isn't yet in my opinion. Unless you have a garage to charge it overnight, you'll struggle to find charging ports. And ironically the place where electric vehicles makes the most sense, in the city is exactly the place where people don't have garages and they park on the street. So it's a little bit of a catch 22 in my opinion. If Lotus is to differentiate themselves from the a lot of mass market electric heavy hitters like Tesla, GM, Ford, Nissan , Renault , just about every other major automotive manufacturer. I think they need to find their niche again. Although I like the styling of the Eletre, it's missing the Lotus uniqueness that brought us to the brand in the first place. I think it's styling is it's best asset. I hope that they continue to evolve into something special.

Haha. You are not wrong. I think the styling that we see here in the Eletre He's a little on the gaudy side. I don't hate hate it. It's a little over styled in my opinion and some areas. Again, I'm a little bit more of the fan of the "simplify and add lightness" theme. But they're trying to keep up with modern trends and if they want to sell vehicles they certainly are going to have to.
