Its a Geely, owned by the communist CCP, Its a Trojan horse brand. Artificial life support for cars like this for a year or two then use the brand to sell more mainstream cars in to the west, manufacturing is already in China and they will, again in a year or two, move all design and engineering to China and sack the UK team. Supporting this car is just supporting Chinese industry, engineering and technology. The Chinese are very good at exploiting the naivety of westerners, convincing them this is some sort of partnership, making promises about long term investment in the UK. Stop sentimental teary eyed fools. If you want a future for western democracy and your children and/or family do not suckered.

The older I get the more I imagine myself owning a small fun and light sports car as my final car rather than some high powered beast. To that extent, historically I think Lotus has targeted that segment perfectly and I have no doubt the Emira will be great whether at launch or over a generation or two. Hopefully by then I will be in a financial position to buy one as my final ICE hurrah. Many thanks for this video on what could be my dream car.

Nice link to the past, to the greatest driver of them all (according to Fangio, and he should know!). Jim Clark was / is my hero since childhood. Those Borders roads are also very evocative, and you reminded me of a similar trip I had made through that area, in nothing so exotic as a brand new or even newer than new in your case! Rather my trip was in a fabulous little Toyota MR2 mk1. Which was really suited to those twisty roads. Drove past Edington Mains and spent some time at his grave, the headstone of which lists Farmer as his first profession, World Champion and Indy 500 winner came further down the list. What a man…

Beautiful video, loved the story that encapsulated the journey. As for the gearbox, brother and I noticed even when Button was demonstrating the car on the Lotus test track that the shift wasn't good, with him having to pause between gears. Even one of the official test drivers with Harry was doing the same. I can't help feel that their engineers need to review that before production. The interior has definitely improved over the Elise. I think what happened after the Elise and TVR boom was that people's expectations of what a car could do and should do changed. They couldn't afford just to have a track day car - it had to work as a daily driver, or at least as a second car. Like a Porsche can. With raised expectations of owners, the far better quality of the interior is definitely the right idea. Other than that, it seems the only problem Lotus have with the Emira is they sold out. A nice problem to have.
@timc9242 жыл бұрын
"Plenty quick enough for a road car"-. Manual box, minimalist interior and not copying the hyper-script that leaves me slightly bored. What a great review, constructively critical and hinting enough as to what is required to hopefully gift us a final hurrah sports car and in doing so redefine what a super-car really is- it doesn't have to be a missile, just plenty quick enough for a road car. The homage to Jim Clark so subtle and respectful - the mere mention of his name and images of him in happier, more simple times still evokes for me a tear. Thanks, Henry.

Great tip on the toe and camber settings between the two tire choices! Changing the toe, camber, and caster (just adjusting some bolts) on my track car transformed the dynamics every bit as much as all the physical parts that I added or replaced for thousands of dollars. So even if you get the Goodyear tires, there's nothing stopping you from having a shop change that alignment for $100 or so

I agree with all the other comments about the quality of these videos. First class. For those who haven't seen it, Harry tested one in this spec and let Lotus know how disappointed he was. They turned up with one in touring spec and he found it a massive improvement on UK roads. The sport suspension would appear to be for track users and countries with v smooth roads. I hope Lotus get it right because the car looks stunning. AMG power will add another interesting dimension.

I seriously doubt that. Sure it’ll sell way better than the Evora but that’s a low bar; Let’s face it, Lotus won one making this one for 25 years like the Elise which launched at £20k. At £80k a pop it will probably return them a profit but that’s about it.
