Gotta say Steve Hunter is playing GREAT rhythm guitar here. What a great moment. Lou!

Another great performance, typical of the man. His early stuff was brilliant but, IMO, he got better with time. Sadly no longer here in body, but his spirit & songs will live on forever.

The usual critic's take is the VU stuff was brilliant and ' Transformer ' then he went off. The usual critic's nonsense. ' Berlin ' was a great album. Some Velvet's stuff is crap.

@@Jlipnicki I largely agree. I'm a big fan of Lou Reed's solo work. Along with the albums you mention, I'd add New York, Magic & Loss & later releases. All excellent LPs. That's not to say that I don't appreciate the earlier Velvet Underground releases. I do. The VU were also an excellent live band. I just think his solo work says so much more to me & has greater depth. A brilliant poet in his prime.

@@kanashiimurakamisan I am in no way dismissing the VU albums, the third one is my favourite, and the Live ' 69 one recorded in San Francisco. ' Songs for Drella 'with John Cale is outstanding too.

@@Jlipnicki Indeed so re VU’s “1969” live double LP. One of the best live recordings (if not THE best) that I’ve ever heard. For me, not a poor track on it. I considered it so good that I bought VU's “The Complete Matrix Tapes”, which has 2 entire nights from the same live set on 4-CDs in a boxed edition. Brilliant! Quite rare now, so hopefully they’ll re-release it before too long. - FWIW, it only cost me £17.99 new in 2016. One hell of a bargain even back then. - I also echo what you say about “Songs For Drella”. Despite its musical minimalism, both Reed’s & Cale’s creative powers never falter throughout that. Another classic.

@@kanashiimurakamisan Reed does a solo, quite rare, on ' Forever Change ' which is so good. 1969 was a record played endlessly when I was a young student in Manchester mid 80s. The version of ' Sweet Jane ' with verses never used elsewhere is a favourite. He was a romantic, sometimes.

My neighbors have heard this track many times. Lou Reed Berlin Live at St. Ann's Warehouse is one of my favorite live recordings. Steve Hunter had many standout moments and Lou looked and sounded his best. Great album, great performances.

155 hits so far,America you are pathetic! This is essentiall rock and roll., a singular meditation on the concepts of greed and nihilism, as only Lou Reed can present it, and, with an absolutely top tier band. Steve Hunter, Fernando Saunders, Antony, etc...C'mon people..LISTEN!

most rock and roll thing ever. In this concert he's pretty close to the original and his deviations are actually quite good because the band follows him.

The same could also be said about Dylan as well. He doesn't want to be seen as a human jukebox. As convoluted and radical as they may sound live, he makes it work and in some instances, even better.
