We're looking at a 1969 Ford Shelby Mustang GT 500 in Competition Red Paint. The car is equipped with a 428 CI Cobra Jet V8 engine, with an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Doug Newhouse. Doug’s had this car since 2022. Doug shares the car is a survivor and was put away for many years. Although the engine needed some work to get going, this car is just the way it was from new.

Nice ride , and impeccably restored. In 1982 I bought a 1970 Mustang for my girlfriend because she needed a car also, it was a basic model, 302 it was a swell car.

Wow, the story about bidding on BAT, what? He was one lucky bidder having no one going against him on this car! That's got to be very rare on that platform. I've never seen only one person with one bid while I've been watching the auctions live. But guess it happens when you are not looking! The car is in amazing condition. It looks a bit on the orange side here but if it's an old red (not repainted recently) that color tends to do that. I'm a '68 lover but the '69 didn't stray far away in it's changes that keep me from liking it as well. Congrats on your purchase, and thanks again, Lou.

This 1969 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 looked very attractive in red with those competition stripes! I also liked the NACA-style ducts on the engine hood, along with those stylized rear guides and the central double rectangular exhaust pipe. A very neat interior in black, with wood details for both the dashboard and the doors (special mention for the Cobra badges on the latter). Mr. Newhouse must feel very happy to have obtained this gem at an unbeatable price. Beautiful final shots, as always, Lou! Kind regards!

This is my FAVORITE MUSTANG! While I'm not into orange, the overall car is stunning. Love the front and rear end of these and I once owned a 1969 Mustang. To me this is the sweet spot on Mustangs - not the smallest - not the largest - the just right spot. Beautiful styling and proportions. Interior is classic cockpit Mustang - something that putrid 2024 Ford Shamaro imposter cannot say. Great car, Lou!

Back when I was a teenager, I worked for Mobil. Every week this guy came in driving that car's twin. I'd fill it up, check the oil, and we'd shoot the breeze. I didn't notice many of those cars back then. They seemed to be a rarity.

I purchased a 1969 Shelby GT500 in Candyapple Red in Summer, 2017. The price was a fair price, and it was located in Ottawa, Canada. I retained the services of a Shelby Expert and flew him to Ottawa to insspect and validate the vehicle. After getting his report I lined up a wire transfer in advance, and we drove to Ottawa to see the car for ourselves. There was no doubt, this was a really nice vehicle, and is my favorite car of all time. The biggest difference between this GT500 and ours is the exterior color, and the radio with an 8 track system (ours is an AM/FM stereo - which I never use). The A/C is a nice touch, and helps keep the driving experience a pleasant one on warm/hot days. Our odometer shows an original 87,000 mile. Anyway, congratulations on a nice win.

@@loucostabile Our 2020 Shelby GT500 is in a very close 2nd position for being my all time favorite vehicle ever. There is nothing to not like with that car, just as with the 69 Shelby. But, nostalgia wins the day for the 69 Shelby, as I have wanted one since I saw my first and only one on a public road back in late 72 or early 73. I was in Encino (SoCal), on Ventura Blvd, and a gorgeous 69 GT500 drive by me. I knew right then that some day, show how, I was going to have one. They were far too costly for me back then, and had it not been for the success of the business I started in 1991 I eould not have been able to purchase one in 2017 either. Luckily we had the funds to get it, as well as a few other nice vinage cars. 1973 Mustang Convertible, 1973 Mach 1, 1997 Honda Del Sol two seater sports car. They are all funm, and all special in theirown way.

Lou, I was turning 16 and mom test drove a red '69 Mach 1 w/428. She made a right out of the lot, hopped over a bump in the road which caused her to goose the throttle, and the rear tires chirped. Oh no she said, made a u-turn and went right back to the lot. A few days later she came home with a '69 Cutlass S. ...but that's another story. Sweet Shelby!

Detroit had such cool exhausts back then. T/A-AAR, Buick N-25, AMC Sidewinder, Lil' Red Express, '65 Starfire (my favorite), and the '69-'70 Shelbys. 50+ years ago someone near me would park their yellow Shelby GT350 in front of the store they worked at, and I was facinated at the exhaust outlets. That car was always filthy dirty though, and the whole back tail section was covered in soot from that center exhaust. Oh the humanity.

True story: Back in the day Carol Shelby personally gifted this exact model to Bill Cosby. Bill Cosby took a test drive on a proving ground track as a passenger with Mr. Shelby who redlined it with Cosby holding on for dear life. After the ride was over a shaken, scared spitless Bill Cosby told Carol Shelby "I want you to take this car and give it to George Wallace".

Peter, that was a supercharged 427 AC Cobra 🐍 roadster. By 1968, FOMOCO and Carroll Shelby had parted ways. The 1969 GT350 and GT500 sales were dismal. Leftover 69’s were rebadged 1970.

Hey I hadn’t heard that story. I think you are getting it wrong. The story took place in 1967 not ‘69 and the car was not a Mustang but it was a Cobra. That Cobra was further customized by the addition of two Paxton superchargers and an automatic transmission. Shelby built only 2 cars, one he kept and the other he gave to Cosby. The car was such a handful that Cosby after his one test drive gave it back to Shelby who then sold it to a San Francisco dealer. He sold it to a man who ran the car off the road and into the Pacific Ocean. He died a few days later. The bit about giving the car to George Wallace was not true. It was how Cosby ended his comedy bit about the tale of that Cobra. (That was on a 1969 album titled “200 M.P.H. The whole story is side 2.) You can hear it on KZbin search “Bill Cosby 200 MPH.” I don’t think he ever owned a GT500 or maybe he did but he couldn’t have been talking about it on an album that came out in 1969…

Back in the Fall of 1972, I was shopping around used car lots for my first car. I needed a pick-up and ended up with a 1971 Ford Ranchero Squire. It's 285 hp got me into plenty of trouble. While looking around, I came upon a 1968 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500KR. It was equipped almost the same as this '69, but under the hood it had the fancy Shelby cast-aluminum oval air cleaner. It had the hood scoops but I'm not sure it was ram air. I knew it wasn't the car I was looking for, but I had to ask. I was told $1500. Back then these were considered just Mustangs. Now, with 20-20 hindsight, I realize that I should have pulled teeth to get that car. In less than ten years, they were beginning to be taken seriously and were going for $7K. Now, they are 6-figures. But had I bought that car, I'd probably been dead or in prison. Cars like that might dream of misdemeanors but are more than likely to commit felonies. lol

@@loucostabile Very similar driveline performance, except everything was tighter, especially in the handling and breaking. Oddly it too was Lime Gold. What I didn't like was the interior roll bar and retractable harness. Made it a 2 pax car.
