Wow! A great trip back to yesteryear! My Dad bought a new 1953 Buick Special 4 door sedan. Nice car, but it was built in Framingham, MA. Sadly, many “lemon” cars came out of that location. The white and green look beautiful. I remember these Buicks so well from my “kidhood”. Thanks Lou!

Hello Lou! You featured another '54 Buick (last one was a four-door sedan), and here we are again, this time a Special Riviera two-door hardtop! Buicks were really wonderful cars back in the day. Those dashboard controls beside the steering wheel are something else - makes the driver feel more like a pilot than a highway motorist. I can imagine how smooth the ride is in that car. When I was very small, my father had a 1950 Buick. It was well used when my father had it (this was around 1967; it was replaced with a Volkswagen bus by the spring of '68). The '54 Special finally received a V-8 engine - 264 cubic inches; that spelled the end of the straight-eight era at Buick. That left only Pontiac and Packard the only U.S. automobiles still offering straight eight engines in 1954. You can see the owners are truly happy with their Buick. It's hard to believe that's a 70-year-old automobile we are looking at. But it surely doesn't look old. It's as if we've suddenly stepped back in time. Thanks again, Lou! As always, keep those videos coming!

My uncle had a 1954 Buick Super, which was one trim level up from the Special. His was also a 2-door hardtop, white top over cream yellow body. In ‘54, the Roadmaster was the top of the line, then the Century, then the Super, and finally the Special. The Roadmaster and Century had 4 portholes on each side, while the Super & Special had 3. In addition to those 4 main model lines, Buick also built the Skylark, which had a unique, totally different rear end and was a more-limited production run.
@jonathan_nc17 күн бұрын
Only the Roadmaster had 4 portholes in 1954. Roadmaster was top of the line, then the Super, then the Century and then the Special. Then in 1955 only the Special had 3 portholes and the rest had 4. Just wanted to set the record straight. This is such a beautiful Buick and their effort to make it all original is commendable.

What?! Is it 1954, or 2024?! Because this 1954 two-door Buick Special, with that gorgeous combination of Artic White and Baniff Green paint, looks as shiny, if not shiny, as when it left the dealership! I love the front end, with that big, down-sloping grille, headlights, and big bumper, with those chrome bullet-shaped trim (special mention for that eye-catching chrome bullet-shaped trim on the hood). A gorgeous two-tone green interior, with those big, comfortable single-row seats, a nice instrument console adorned with elegant chrome pieces, and a big, two-ring, three-panel steering wheel with that shield symbol in the middle. An impeccably made engine bay, with that impressive, and quite pleasant-sounding 254 CI "Nailhead" V8 engine. Congratulations to Paul and Julia Acklin for this fantastic vehicle, which transports everyone who sees it to anecdotes and stories from another era! Best regards, Lou!

Reverse lights do not exist BACKUP LIGHTS however were according to the 1954 Buick sales brochure optional on the Special series models. The proper name for the chrome trim on the side of a Buick is "Sweep spear". Very nice car certainly worthy of a review.

For the 1954 model year, Buick, Oldsmobile, and Cadillac went to the sleeker, straighter, more-modern body style. Chevy and Pontiac still had an older style body, more rounded, with bulbous fenders which were holdovers from late 1940’s styling. Chevy and Pontiac didn’t get the more modern styling of their 3 more expensive cousins until the following year, 1955.
