@@gt-37guy6 Very cool. What's the drivetrain in yours? I guess I'm a little biased too because my older brother's first car in high school (still in my garage) was a '70 Lemans, so I had read a lot about them.

@@sidefx996 I was really lucky to find this car around 8 years ago. It is a 400 4 speed documented car. Very solid with a decent interior, the trans and rear end were changed - rear end is a chevy 12 bolt posi. I have allot of fun with this car, not very many have seen or even heard of one.

So many similar looking Pontiacs with different names. My grandparents had a 72 Luxury Lemans with optioned out 455 that looked very much like this minus the decals and customized wheels. It could lay a nice coat of rubber on the road if he gunned it. It's like they weren't even aware what a bundle of raw power they had when they bought it. Secretly I think my grandfather did know but he never drove it hard unless my grandmother was absent, then he would open it up just for 14 year old me.

By the mid 1970’s, most if not all car enthusiast magazines such as Hot Nod, Car Crap, Popular Nut Rubbing etc. turned nearly all their attention to Chevrolet. A new informative magazine came out I think in the late 90’s. Muscle Car Review. Great mag! Nice coverage of all models. Lou, it’s wonderful you bring “unheard of” cars into the light. You are a living magazine of info. In Nov. 1975, while in high school, I bought my 1st car. A 1970 Ford Torino Cobra. 429SCJ Drag Pack, automatic, 391 rear. Mind bending performance! I currently own a 1969 Ford Cobra 🐍 fastback.

A Pontiac GT-37? That's a first for me! These cars must be extremely rare! The gold exterior looks sharp, and that 455 H.O. engine sounds real healthy with a sweet cam lope to it! What a unique car! I like the bench seat with 4-speed manual transmission! I also like the fact that it is completely manual, with no power steering or brakes. It's 100% pure muscle car! No extra drag on the engine for maximum horsepower and performance! Of course it's in another noisy indoor venue with no test drive!

This car was always on my A-Body fantasy team. Pontiac seemed to go wild in '71 and allowed their baddest engine to be ordered in even the lowest trim T-37 model, an opposite policy of years past and opposite of the rest of the GM divisions. That car sounded so wicked Lou, now let's get that thing out to the drag strip! Love the video Lou!

I heard the owner mention the 140mph speedometer. My mother bought a 1970 1/2 Tempest T-37, in September 1970, and hers had the same 140mph speedometer. Her car had the 350/2bbl so I always thought that 140 was just a bit optimistic. I noticed this one didn’t have headrests or even the side vents at the edge of the dashboard, I suppose to save weight. Nice review and great car!

T-37 was bare bones entry trim. I have seen a T-37 non GT trim with hood tach, 4-speed and 455 H.O it's in Florida and it's white. Posi rear axle on it too. low milage car hood pin option also. no stripe . it was purchased by original owner for the purpose of drag racing back in the day. His is nice also.

A GT-37 with the 455 is extremely rare. Most I've seen were equipped with the 350 or 400 ci engines, the 455 became available second year of the GT- 37 production run.

I had a 1971 T-37...my first car when I was 17. It had a dented door when I bought it for $1200 with 63k miles. I went to the junk yard and found a 1971 GT-37 which was hit in the rear. I took the driver side door as well as the dash for my car. I remember the GT-37 had a 400-4bbl with a turbo 400, all in good shape along with the Pontiac rims and fairly new tires. I wanted the rims and tires but they wanted $100 and I needed the money for tuition.

From what i remember, this option was supposed to beat rhe insurance companies high rates, you could get it with 350 2bbl engines up to this engine with stops in between. I think carpeting was even a option. Beautiful car and different color combination.

Starting in '70.5 the Tempest was replaced with the T-37 name, the GT-37 when ordered with the 400 4 speed came with Ram Air III heads, it still had a 067 cam(instead of 068) and didn't have the Ram Air exhaust manifolds, it was sort of a replacement for the '69 Pontiac Custom S with a 350HO 330hp which was concieved as a Jr. Muscle Cars to dodge high insurance premiums and attract younger buyers like the Buick GS350 315hp, Olds W31 325hp or W45 Rallye 350 310hp, SS 327/350 Nova/Chevelle, Heavy Chevy or Malibu Sports Coupe 350/402...that were created around the same time or as a response to the Road Runner and Swinger/Duster 340.

The GT-37 is a sleeper drag car. They strip that sucker down to lighten it up. It would look better with a GTO ram air hood and induction system (of course, not stock, but better looking and +20 horsepower) thanks for the video, my guess is very few around. Oh, loving the 4 speed. Factory rating 335 hp/ 480 torque. Thanks so much Lou.

By 71 the compression ratios started to drop & cars were being strangled by pollution control. Pontiac kept it going thru 74 w/ the SD 455 TA. Love GTO & lovely color. Very rare car.

Never heard of this one. Look how crooked they put the Pontiac emblem on that side lol. It's like they didn't even care. I wonder if they gave these good gearing in the rear too then? I'd guess so based on what he said they built them for.

Never heard of the GT-37. I was 16 when this car came out and I recognize most of the muscle cars from the era. Love that it does not have ac, power steering or power brakes. Are the factory front brakes disc and is the suspension same as a GTO, including a rear sway bar?
