On "My Car Story" we're in Rosemont IL on 3-9-22 at the World of Wheels Car Show.
We're looking at a 1957 Buick Roadmaster 75 4 Door in Blue Two Tone Paint. The car comes with a 364 CI “nail head” V8 engine.
The car's Owner is Lance Basiorka. Lance’s had this car since 2008. Lance shares his Dad had this car before him and his Dad’s had this car since 1970. Lance decided to fix the car up as it sat for many years. The interior is all original.

1957 was such a great year for GM cars! If that is the original paint, this Buick is one of the best unrestored ones out there. One of the officers in our Buick Club of America Chapter has a 1957 Super in about this condition. She wins awards all the time! Hers lacks air conditioning but is still well equipped for a 1957. So nice to see something other than a Chevy or Ford!! Thanks Lou!

Hi, Lou! I know how much you love those blue cars, so blue on blue must be twice as nice! (I think Bobby Vinton would agree!) If only you could have gotten a ride in it! I mean, with all that plushness and all that stretch-out room, you can really picture yourself just basking in all that Fifties-style luxury...like that fella he met at the gas station did upon taking his first breath! Well, we wanted to see a nice four-door, and Lance's car hits it on the nailhead! What an awesome way to pay tribute to his father! One comment: While our new cars will never be built like these classics from the ‘50’s (for various valid reasons), I wish we could at least expand our color palette! Like the other guy posted, I’m real tired of black, white, gray, and silver! I had a ‘67 Fairlane when I was a teen. It was Clearwater Aqua, a beautiful car and color! Lou is filming the rear lights and the car is running. I bet he can he smell the exhaust, unlike we do these days with new cars. I don't remember the exhaust being as strong of smell in their day, as it is on these older cars now, when we're around these older pre smog device vehicles. Just goes to show how our sense of smell adapts. A beauty regardless. My mother drove a 58 Buick Caballero station wagon.

Staggering !! Same year as me so all in :) I've often said that cars from this era were rolling works of art. This takes the cake. Sure, a two tone finish would be out of style on a high end car today but this must have been like buying a $60,000 fully loaded Explorer back in the day, Needless to, the Buick would be prettier :) To see one in original condition like this is amazing ! It looks beautiful today, but when it was new, it was not that well received. Buick over-hyped it, but buyers thought it looked too much like warmed over 55, (it actually is a completely different car). That brought us the 58, which, again, not that many people liked. I have always loved it, but I am weird that way. I like the 59 and 60 as well.

To elaborate on my previous thoughts, I was told that the man that I worked for used a guy nicknamed 007, who would go from lot to lot. My favorite story was of a particular ‘66 Oldsmobile traded in at a local Cadillac dealership with very high mileage. The car was only 3 years old. It was wholesaled several times, each time becoming “newer”. Eventually someone sold it back to the original Cadillac dealership with about 70,000 fewer miles. Someone at the Cadillac dealership recognized the car. Whoops!

I know Buick used the Riviera name at this time to designate their hardtop models. Would this be a Roadmaster 75 Riviera, or did the 75 designate it was a hardtop without the use of "Riviera"? Whatever, it's a beautiful car and when I first looked at the video I thought it was a 2 door, love the roof line!

Hi Edwin, Hmmm, I didn't see Riviera, so not sure. Maybe a Viewer with knowledge car share, Lou

"Riviera", before the model name appeared in 1963, was used to describe a pillarless hardtop but was not part of the model designation. The 75 was the model number, and designated a step above the other Roadmaster models having the badging on the outside and a more opulent interior and was the only Roadmaster model without stainless strips on the trunk or roof, for a cleaner look.

@@loucostabile I love old cars and while I no longer have any that are anywhere near show quality I do have a couple of projects that I am working on one of which (63 Dodge 440 4 door sedan) I still daily drive in the summer even though it has rust issues. It still gets more attention and thumbs ups than any newer cars in the area including the newer Corvettes and Hellcats around here.

The Roadmaster 75 was a Spring introduction in an effort to boost lagging sales. It was offered in a 2- and 4-door HT model, with very few made, especially the 2-door. In 1958 all Roadmasters were 75s, but for 57 it was a special model as an adjunct to the regular Roadmaster line up. When I was a teenager in 1967 I used to go to a local car hop for lunch. One day a guy rolled in with a rather worn 57 Roadmaster 75, the only one I think I've ever seen on the road and that was over 50 years ago. I also saw a 58 Limited at the same place sometime that summer, also tired, but still on the road. A big junkyard I used to go to back around that time also had a 57 Roadmaster 75 among the Buicks. I don't recall ever seeing any others ever, even at shows. This is an outstanding original. Did the owner say if it was original paint? It looks it. The door jams are split properly; another mistake you often see in restored Buicks of this vintage. Door jams are split, door ends are top color all the way down. A lot of guys don't do that right when repainting these cars. If I were judging, I'd take points off for that. I've seen 57 factory photos with the wire wheels. I think it was the last year they were offered. They were an expensive option: $400 in 1954. I don't know about other years. If you bought the option you got 5 wire wheels.

I assume that the transmission on this lovable classic would be the "Dynaflow" variety...very smooth acceleration, but not quite as responsive as other GM transmissions....my dad owned a 59 LeSabre convertible, with that 364 engine...rated at 250bhp back then. Buick, as well as the other GM divisions, made their own engines. Buick eventually gave up on Dynaflow, and went with the more responsive Hydramatic...I think that was done in the early 1960s, just in time for the horsepower wars that were developing among the Big Three!..Amazingly, Buick eventually made the very best "muscle car" of them all--the Buick GS Stage One, around 1970.

My father had one of these 1957 Buicks in the 70's. I remember being small enough at the time to fit between the door and drive shaft floor hump in the back. He once transported a giant in the car. He attended a wrestling match and afterwards Andre the Giant, Superfly Snooka and their manager were at a pay phone trying to get a cab but couldnt. My father offered them a lift. Which they excepted. My father being a mechanic had recently replaced the suspension in the car. Even so with Andre in the car it leaned down on his side. lol.

Lou this is a year old MCS so you probably wont see my comment. I'm a two door guy but this 4 door is beautiful. It is probably because this year the two doors and four doors had the same roof line. Lou you can be the least inquisitive . This car is a survivor in amazing shape. His dad put it in storage years ago. You don't ask why or what type of storage facility he had that kept it in such good shape. Did his dad have a car collection? What other cars if any did his Dad have in this building? When a car has been sitting for years let alone decades there are things that just deteriorate. What did he have to do to get it running properly? finally the owner mentioned the cubic inch of the engine but not the HP or torque. ????????? I still love your channel. You find the coolest cars. Every time I enter MCS it's like I'm going on a Magic Mountain ride for the first time. I'm in anguish.

Lou and Lance thank you for bringing this beautiful car to my attention of course I’ve heard of a roadmaster but not a 75. I heard an old commercial for the Buick 75 and I assumed it was model year. I’m always first a Chrysler (Lou I mr trust) guy but after seeing this 1957Buick 75&1957 DeSoto I don’t understand why it’s such a fuss over 57 Chevys 😏

I had one in Mariner blue…a RM75-only color. I saved it from near-death in a field and got it driving and passed it on to the next owner with a parts haul I collected. I had it for 15 years, tucked away in my Mom’s dry garage. The interior is a Buck Rogers space ship, just filled with chrome and stainless. The leather and vinyl inside had a pearl effect that works well with the chrome. I was very lucky to find a nice original interior in the same light blue from a Chicago area Buick Club man. It got my car over the hump. The mechanicals were easy to get right. If the cosmetics are good enough, these are wonderful driving cars. The 57’s are so different from the 56 GM cars. I recall my grandmother’s 56 Fleetwood 60S. It was much larger and higher than these cars. The 57 seems lower and sporty in comparison. These are really Cadillacs more than they are Buicks. I think they are the best of both worlds. The Buick interior is way better than the Cadillac interior, even has chromed headliner trim vs the aluminum of the Cadillac.

I'll say this now and I will say it again in the future: these were cars made for everyday use, these were "normal" cars, back in the day. Now look at what we have as "normal" cars. The irony is that these cars had so much more complicated body forms than cars of today: which are all wedge or square. Even the windows that were curved wrap around made back in the 50s yet we are allegedly more advanced... We see NOTHING like this in cars that are made now.
