Great restoration. I had a 1967 Buick GS400, gold with black vinyl top. Unfortunately in 1971 while going to night school in New York City it was stolen. Never got it back. So glad to see your beauty. Thanks for the memories!

Buick Bob runs the annual Classic Car Event each summer in southwest suburban Palos Heights. It'll be held July 19 this year (2018) and the show brings more than 400 cars and 5,000-7,000 people to town, all for the benefit the Palos Heights Beautification Committee. Palos Heights is a great little community and the Classic Car Event, now in its 15th year, is really a great time. Just a couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of tooling around town with Bob in this 400 Sport Coupe. Lou, I know you get around. You've gotta come to Palos Heights on July 19!

Those 67s are very cool, I have many memories of riding in my buddy's mom's 67 4dr. Love that crazy air filter, too bad about that stupid air pump, but hats off for returning it to true stock. I wonder why Buick discontinued the nail head design V8s, they have always intrigued me...GM would be in great shape if they could still produce cars like this

Nice '67 GS400, Lou! I once owned a 1967 Buick GS400 with dark blue exterior, black interior with bucket seats and center console (like the car shown in your video). IMO, 1967 was the last year of the better quality interiors (die cast metal, chrome, stainless, etc.) In '68 cheaper plastic and plastic chrome came into use. My car was bone stock, with 2:93 posi rear, 400 Turbo trans with switch pitch converter. It ran decent, but it would have been more decent had it had a 1970 455 engine!

SWEET ride !For some reason, in the past year or so I've gotten interested in these. Clean look with that tail and loooooonnnng sides. I saw them new as a little kid but considered them to be an "old folks" car. I guess my age and my tastes finally caught up with each other. I did have a '68 or '69 Skylark i bought in '79 for $150 with a considerable amount of collision damage, but it was incredibly reliable. Never had one of these though and I'd sure like to find a '67 GS 400 for sale. You're a lucky guy 'Buick Bob" !

Buicks were funny. Back in 1964 they introduced their first shifting automatic transmissions. About the only carry-over from the Dyna-flows was the variable-pitch stator in the torque converters. This gave a little more push, almost like another gear. Buick introduced 2 new automatics, the Super Turbine 300(2-speed Powerglide-based) and the Super Turbine 400(3-speeds). In 1964, you could get the S.T. 400 in almost any Buick, including a Skylark with the 300 c.i. V8. The 1964 S.T. 400 was a one-year model, having only one "L" shifter position. After Cadillac ran out of traditional Hydra-matics, the 1964 S.T. 400 was substituted. This was also a one-year version of a Cadillac not having a "Dual-Drive" shifter. The next year, 1965 through 1966, you could only get the S.T. 300 if you wanted an automatic in mid-sized and compacts. Even in 1967, the GS 400 often came with the S.T. 300, which basically limited them to drag racing. You often found a 2-speed automatic in the smaller Buicks into the 70's. The Nova-based Apollo was an example. That is great that the GS 400 in this video has the S.T. 400, as it may be the first one I've seen this way. Supposedly, 1967 was the last year for the variable-pitch stator. The S.T. 300 soldiered on until 1969, but with a regular torque converter. The 1969 model year introduced the T.H. 350(3-speed) automatic. All GM vehicles still with 2-speed automatics used the Chevy PowerGlide. After the middle of 1964, the only vehicles which still had 2-speed automatics were GM vehicles.

Back in the 1980's, I had a 1968 GS400 Convertible...but wasn't that impressed with the 400. Everyone kept saying 'oh, that's a powerful engine...rare...Buick only made...' but in my opinion, most Pontiac 400's would walk off and leave it. I ran the numbers on the block...it was a 400, but not impressive at all. As for the convertible...well...as they always say, a man should have a convertible and a red-head once in his life...just so he can see why he doesn't want another one...seemed to work for me...

That is one beautiful car ! I have rebuilt a lot of Buick engines over the years , well made engines . Most recently was a 69 430 Wildcat . It had only 26,000 original mile but had sat for almost 30 years and had a couple of exhaust valves stuck . I think it was in a 69 GS . I own an engine machine shop here in Alabama , Advantage Engine Restoration , 205-702-4557 .
