I don’t go to CAR SHOWS, 63% of those cars couldn’t be driven 27 miles to the next town. Basically I prefer the HOT ROD POWER TOURS, Now that’s a car show. Lots of beautiful cars and pickups and some not so beautiful. BUT they all get driven ( not trailer ) over around 600 miles in one week. Regardless HOT ROD POWER TOUR is a great experience .

Thanks Lou for featuring this beautiful 65 442! Mr. Hartley is a wise man for keeping this time capsule and having it restored to showroom condition. My neighbor bought this identical car in November 1967 from the original owner with only 20,000 miles. The only difference was his was black with a parchment interior. Loved riding with him and feeling the torque of that 400 as he banged gears with the 4 speed.

The 442 (and GranSport) is the most underappreciated, but overachieving, of the A-Bodies in '65. Without the flair of the GTO and SS396 it was often overlooked but read any magazine road test from back then and they'll tell you the 442 road manners and handling were superior to the other A-Bodies. Great video, great car. Thanks Lou!!

I took my driving test in the F-85. I love the color and interior of this car. The engine and exhuast sounded fantastic. So clean, you are right it looks as if it came right off the dealership floor! That is one serious ride, and just like its owner, it doesn't show its age one bit. Too bad Oldsmobile chose the absolute wrong moment to launch the 442 (April, 1964, The New York World Fair), trying to jump on Pontiac's muscle car bandwagon. I'm curios if the owner drives it regularly - judging from the looks of the pedals and the carpet, I'd say it gets it out on the road regularly).

1973? Oil crisis sale? I wonder if the driver bought a Vega as an economy car replacement. I Googled the value of $500 in 1973 versus 2024, and it's $3600. It would have been, maybe, a down-payment on a new car back then.

The Feds dropped the national speed limit to 55 mph in summer of ‘73. I was a sophomore in college, lived 100 miles from my university and when I went home for a weekend, it seemed to take FOREVER at 55 rather than at 70+. Regular gas hit 50 cents/gallon at Christmas 1973 and I thought it was horrible, because it had been only around 30 cents/gallon just one year before. I had a 6 cylinder 1967 Fairlane, and even though it was a dog, I was glad it wasn’t a thirsty V8!

I sold my ‘67 Fairlane in 1973 for $500. It had about 105,000 miles and was in OK, but not great condition. And it only had the wimpy 200 cid 6 cylinder engine. Since this 442 was a more desirable car, $500 seems fairly appropriate. Mostly depends on how much rust it had since it’s from Chicagoland.

@ thank you for sending. Beautiful sound starting up. Mine wasn’t a GTO but it was a ‘65 LeMans with a 326 cid and four on the floor in dark blue. Later I ordered a ‘72 GTO 455.

Actually the 65 442 has the best, flowing body lines of any A body. The 65 GTO has a hip at the quarter and weirdly shaped wheel houses. The whole side of the 442 is moving forward at speed.
