Nice little Beetle. These are cars that I need to learn more about. I had a history teacher when I was in high school that told me his parents had one and he told me that he used to climb behind the back seat and ride back there 2 Lou. I wonder if alot of kids did that? That would have been something that I would have done if my parents had one. My grandpa was a Ford man but he used to brag about what good engines the Beetles had in them. " If you take care of the motor they will run forever" was what he used to tell me. Another great video as always Lou. By the way that Bison closest to the fence kinda looked like he was ready for a nap.

That two-toned paint job is what the doctor ordered. I had two Beetles. One was a standard and the second was a 1974 Super Beetle. The standard one was the sportier edition and the Super Beetle the more comfortable concept. Both were great and had plenty of charachter, almost as if they had a soul. If you had spare points, condenser and a fanbelt stored in the trunk, you could practically travel anywhere on vacation, without a worry, unlike modern vehicles whose electronics and other complexities sooner or later could fail and leave you completely stranded. Beetles were both cool in Summer, because of the engine being rear-mounted, and supposedly in Winter (many claim that they were also cool in Winter). My front-mounted engined vehicles would always emit heat through the firewall. Therefore, making them hotter in Summer. The only thing of which I could complain about was that the seats could not fold flat, in order to create a bed for overnighting or camping in. But then again, this wasn't the original concept behind the Beetle

Growing up in Southern California I was exposed to thousands of VW’s at every turn and I owned several. I have an intense love For the noisy primitive little cars! This one is exceptional! The two tone paint thing is something recent. Never saw one growing up. 72 MPH was top speed and you had to be careful of sudden side wind gusts! My buddy had one that was well overdue for an overhaul and one night someone stole his engine! He paid a 50.00 and his insurance company installed a new one! Nice car, Lou!

Growing up in the 70s, VW Beetles were everywhere! And as I've mentioned before, we had 3 (Not at the same time) when I was a kid. The engine sound brings back memories, and so does the cabin. ...you're right, Michael...VW via market research found that Americans thought the parcel shelf odd...so they didn't feature it on U.S.- bound Beetles... ...not sure if Canadian cars had it...and, of course, particularly in Britain, but also on the Continent, consumers valued the shelf for a place to keep snacks and other items within hand's reach...

Great video Lou! Brings back memories! Dad had a 58 beetle! Yes he was also cheap! There was no back seat just piece of hard material and I too used to ride back there! It had no fuel gauge instead it had auxiliary tank and when you ran out of gas there was a foot pedal and you would pump gas from auxiliary tank to the regular tank and that would get you to the gas station! A very unusual feature I have never seen again on anything! Also mom disliked that car! Still at 88 she talks about getting stuck on a hill when it stalled! Funny thing she still drives and has a new Mercedes Benz and loves it!

Good to see. We had a '63 with a rag sunroof. If you've never driven one they are fun to drive. We were too large to get in the way back. Although I managed it. I learned to drive on it. Let me say, very easy to learn on this car. Can we talk about the heat? Very hot in front. Freezing in back. If it was really cold, forget it. It wasn't my car. My car was a '69 Meadowlark Yellow Mustang convertible. Not easy to learn to drive a stick here. Almost took down a mailbox at a country Inn. Backing out. Then rocketing forward. My father just held onto his head as I blasted out on a country road. Need power? Not a Beetle. Try to drive or buy one if you can. Really really fun.

I considered getting a newer beetle, knowing that it was the swan song for them. Couldn't get a dark green one that came with the baby moons. So then a 2018 V6 Passat was the next one I was interested in. It Sold before I could get it, and that was the end of V6's for Passat production. So ended up with a 2019 V6 Impala. I owned a 1965 VW Beetle from new. Color SeaBlue. 1200cc engine. Back in the day when you went to the gas station an attendant would pump the gas. While on vacation with a suitcase in the frunk I stopped for gas. The attendant would often pump gas with the intention of making an even dollar sale. This meant overfilling. After leaving the station and well down the road I smelled gas. I stopped and looked in the trunk. Suitcase reeked of gas. That’s why the attendant made an even $2.00 sale. Another beetle quirk was that in really cold weather you needed an ice scraper for the windshield. The inside of the windshield. The air cooled engine could barely keep itself warm in sub zero temperature. I think in Europe a gas powered heater was available. P.S. Back in the day I don’t ever recall seeing a Beetle with a roof rack.

Hi Cal Bob 750, you are a true VW guy! You need three hands to drive a Beetle in the winter. One to steer, one to shift, and one to scrape the inside of the windshield! Scott

The last VW beetle’s produced in Mexico are bringing up to $50,000 in the United States. Volkswagen should continue to follow up of the cult classic and have production continue in another country such as Mexico and reap the rewards of this phenomenon
