It was a leer jet travelling from Tennessee to New York carrying 4 people. It is a possibility that loss of cabin pressure at the 30 to 40 thousand feet caused all on board to pass out. Same as Payne Stewarts plane years ago. The comments of some of these people are outrageous...smh

DC has multiple layers of exclusionary zones after 9/11 to get jets in the air before they are in danger. The result of which means jets will intercept planes routinely for violating that airspace. First you get into the Special Flight Rules Area and, then Flight Restricted Zone, finally the flight prohibited area is the shoot down zone.

It's pretty simple. They are on alert. Meaning already ready to fly at a moment's notice. They are notified to grab the bus to the flightline. They board knowing there is an encroachment (which is why they are there on alert). They are given the call sign of the intrusion (if available) and a heading along with instructions on engagement... They train daily for these. It wouldn't have been excitement over the air. It would have been routine with standardized instructions in near monotone for clarity...

Great, there was a sonic boom...what about reporting on the aircraft that violated air space? Who was on the flight? what happened to the pilot? Did the military down the plane? Some hard hitting journalism would be nice!

Those jets can move. Same happened years ago when a private plane was in a flight zone that was closed off when a president was here where I am. The planes came from another state about 200 or so miles away and they made it here within minutes. And that boom was something and it rattled the windows.

We heard one over Duncan Arizona when I was in elementary school. I couple of my class mates started crying and couple peed their pants. I didn't know what to think about the noise and it wasn't until later when the schools explained to us what happened. I think back and feel really bad for the kids it terrified. Lucky I was too dumb to be scared.
