Think of this example as someone saying Ringo Starr wasn't the best drummer for The Beatles; no, he wasn't flashy and this and that, and I've heard so many drummers say they could have played the part better, but I think that they both (Ringo and Jason) played their parts very well respectively.

@rj zander You must be a non Metallica Fan. Of course Cliff will always be the number 1 Metallica bass legend. Jason eventually brought a lot to Metallica. Remember, the power of his backup vocals? Next I have seen Metallica Live in concert about 12 times. My first time seeing them was in Cincinnati in 1985. I was 15. When Jason mentions that the Black Album routinely sells about 4,000 to 5,000 copies per week, he is not exaggerating. As of the week that I post this (November 7, 2017) the Black Album is in it's 455th week on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart (#139 this week if you're wondering). Currently only 5 albums in all of Billboard's chart history have spent more weeks on the Top 200: 5) My Fair Lady Soundtrack at 480 weeks; 4) Journey's Greatest Hits, 485 weeks; 3) Johnny's Greatest Hits from Johnny Mathis, 490 weeks; 2) Bob Marley and the Wailer's greatest hits album Legend, 494 weeks; and the kings of the Billboard Top 200.... Pink Floyd with their groundbreaking album Dark Side of the moon, 933 weeks (!). First of all, what a strangely eclectic grouping of musical tastes, right? Johnny Mathis, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Bob Marley, Journey... My Fair Lady?!? But this is all of 60+ years of chart history in play, so I get it. It's just amazing that on a weekly basis, year in and year out, 4 or 5 thousand people on average buy the Black Album every week and keep it charting. Is The Black Album this generations' Dark Side of the Moon? Well, maybe!

You guys realize they were just 22-23 years old when Cliff died, right? They were all skyrocketing to fame, dealing with all of that, and then lose their brother in a horrific accident -- which was a life-altering near-death experience for the rest of them. Then they had to pick back up, find a new bassist, and get right back on tour. All of this with very little grieving and processing. It was a time when no one really thought of counseling as a matter of course. So you had three guys who grew up in the band together and just survived a horrible accident that took the life of their best friend -- and Jason. Why are people so surprised that they had a hard time dealing with this? Yes, they acted very shitty. And yes, they regret having acted very shitty. But I'm not going to judge how a bunch of 22 and 23 year-olds acted when they just went through an experience like that and then Jason is the guy replacing their brother.

And I was fortunate enough to be at one of the , if not THE very first Flotsom (at that time, "The Dogz") show that they performed. It was on the anniversary of Randy Rhoads' death that a few local bands in Phoenix were doing in honor. To this day I can remember in detail The Dogz and Jason's performance. He was playing this cheap Hondo II Explorer bass and just KILLING IT! Me, as a young up and coming bass player myself. He caught my attention and inspired me so much. As I got into the local band scene. I got to know Jason a little bit just in passing from time to time. Talking music, bass stuff and Iron Maiden with him every once in a wile. He was such a down to earth guy back then. Never had a big head. When he made it in Metallica. I felt that if anyone in the local music scene back then deserved it. It was him. Because of that. I have followed his career over the years. Every interview up to this one I have seen. It still the same old Jason. I can tell he never changed or ever went ROCK STAR. He was one of my bass heroes and influences( along with Geezer and Steve Harris) way before Metallica and Flotsom. I have been proud of him.
