Loughrigg Fell & Rydal Caves Wainwright Walks wi'a Local Lad

A walk to the summit of Loughrigg and a visit to Rydal Caves. This was a very misty day so the views were rather limited unfortunately...but the caves are always good to see!

And thankyou again for the video. More than 30 years ago I would go up Loughrigg regularly and considered it my favourite fell. I always climbed it from Rothey park in Ambleside because I liked the view over Grasmere and Rydal to be a surprise until I got to the summit 😄

Hi Brian, I've been up from Ambleside as you describe many times as well. It's a lovely way onto Loughrigg... but I'd used some of that route in my previous video so wanted to show some different views...the weather had different plans tho'! 😂😂 Thanks for watching and commenting, it's much appreciated. Great new music Alistair! Busy busy busy. Not one part to yourself but i guess this is to be expected at any time of the year in this spot. Still not visited the caves but im glad im getting to see it from so many great You-tubers perspectives! What an epic route! Loved the autumnal colours and your route and bus planning is second to none. Im currently editing another Alpine mountain and this, on a misty day stole my heart. The Lakes has it all, it gets under your skin unlike any other mountain range ive ever climbed and ive climbed a LOT! Loved it ❤

It was forecast to be clear, I was looking forward to showing the great views.... but we can't control the weather, it was still a great day! There was quite a lot of people, there always will be on Loughrigg I think! The caves are great fun, one of the few in the Lakes with little risk! I can't wait to see more of your alpine adventure! So I started to comment and then I realized I am not new here at all.. what a shame, I am starting to loose control of everyone I am following. My deepest appologies. With that out of the way, I just enjoyed so much this walk! Amazing views, and a hint of winter there, the cold is not that far away! Music is really nice and atmospheric, goes very well with the view!

Great video ,brings back happy memories for me starting off at the hotel I lived in as a lad and heading up to High Close to see my mates or rowing on Rydal, some of the best years of my life there ,thanks for reminding me of it.

Thanks Graham, I thought of you when I was starting there after you'd told me you lived there. Zeke Myers used to live opposite High Close (now the YHA)...I can't remember his wife's name but his son's were Mike and Chris. Did you know them? They were very good motorcycle trials riders in the late 70's. Glad the video reminded you of some happy times 👍 Thanks so much for watching and commenting it's very much appreciated. @@WainwrightWalksWiaLocalLad Wondered if that's why you did it from there, appreciate it, yes did know of Zeke Myers and his sons,not well but used to visit some mates who lived at High Close YHA often and Zeke Myers was across the road and used to use his traction engine around Red Bank,seem to remember there was a small reservoir where they lived unless I've got it wrong

@@grahamtowler1761 my parents knew Zeke and his wife well, Mike was a year older than me at school and Chris a couple of years younger. I remember his traction engine, he restored a steam organ as well we'd go up with my parents as kids to see how he progressing with it. Happy days and times I'll never forget. There is a small reservoir up behind there...I haven't been up to it for many years, it was probably built as a water supply for High Close before the mains? ATB Alistair 👍

I did them both at the beginning of the year and promised full sun all day - never seen it once😡. I did the same walk but in reverse and I see you got the same weather as me but you had a lot more boggy walking than I did and you did look knackered at the end😅. Cheers Alan

It's a shame the weather wasn't better Phil, but that was good compared to some of the days we've had! It's a popular fell for sure, sometimes I just have to be patient! @@WainwrightWalksWiaLocalLad I personally like heading over to Lily tarn when in the area as it's not often visited and a great place to get away from the madding crowds and have your bait.
