God man I love Patrice. What an absolute genius, poet, comedian, asshole, and genuine human he was. RIP Black Phillip

Louis CK too. I hope he lives until he's 90 and spreads his wisdom until then

@jennifergregory7461 For the most part, women don't understand comedy at all. So, not surprising. And I'm guessing you never listened to O & A.

I’ve seen him three times and each time I thought either he or I wasn’t going to make it to the next time. Each time since the first time I talked to him, he’s remembered me and always has a kind word. He’s a great guy and I ended up meeting my wife through his podcast. Her and I were both at the same show but didn’t know each other. I can’t wait to see him again.

This is really the comedy trifecta: Patrice O'neal, Louis C.K., and Doug Stanhope.

I used to run a cabaret/open mic back in the early 90s, and 'Eddie' left me in bits when I watched it... remembering all those hopeful - some truly great - comedians who fell by the wayside, who I'd hear years later that they'd topped themselves or were lost beyond the point of no return. Tough, being a comic.

Knowing the story from the first part I’m glad CK circled around and got to the good part even though Stern was kinda steamrolling and interrupting with questions

Even in a scene as heavy as this, Louis still wrote a funny line: Doug talks about how a doctor felt sorry for him and gave him some medication that would be very easy to overdose with. Louis says "You can't kill yourself." Doug sarcastically replies "Yes I can, I have a note from a doctor." It made the scene so believable because there are a lot of people in reality that appear happy on the outside, while struggling on the inside. They often deflect serious subjects with humor because it's less scary than facing your problems.

Louis is a nicer guy than Ricky Gervais, in his show his character encourages the depressed man to unalive himself, which he does and they don't confront it at all, at least not in the first season.

That scene is as good as anything that came before.

This puts the Pete Davidson story in a new light for me. Well, maybe. Could this be why he got mad at Pete for smoking so much weed and threw him under the bus at SNL? If so it makes him a lot less douchey than he comes across in that story.

It’s actually probably one of the least interesting episodes of the series. The last seasons were just indulgent and not comedy anymore
