Nothing but the truth. I've been almost exactly there after not smoking for a couple of decades. The thing is, between the 70s and today, people have been breeding the plants for THC content, etc., and what you get now from a dispensary is practically a narcotic compared the weed in the 70s-80s. Like he said, you could smoke a joint by yourself or with a friend and still be perfectly functional for the most part. That last time, though... After about 3 hours of still being absolutely wasted from a few hits, I remembered I had things to do. So I went to do laundry. I put everything in the dryer except for one wet towel that I just draped over my head, like a scruffy jedi, and drove home like that... because it made me feel calm. That was it for me.
@centuryrox Жыл бұрын
I can totally relate to this. It sucked, because all my friends were laughing and having a great time while high. I just took two hits, and ending up experiencing 2 hours of the worst paranoia, desperately wishing for the crap to wear off! And this was the late 1970s! Me and pot just never got along.

Same for me. My friends could smoke, drain multiple beers, and be the life of the party while I turned into a paranoid total waste of skin.

I'm with you, man. Every time I got stoned as a teen I just spent the whole time desperately trying to act somewhat normal and just wanting the shit to wear off as quickly as possible. Then two months ago, I took a hit from a joint after a concert for the first time in 20 years and it felt exactly like it did back then - just awful! So yeah. I'm pretty sure that was the last time I'll ever smoke.

@gdn8611 ай бұрын
@@formxr I think its a combination of the strain you get, and however the chemistry in someone's brain works with THC. I've mostly experienced just wanting to be alone, but I've had a few times in my life where whatever strain it was, was the opposite. Back then there wasn't a label, haha, so who knows what kind it was. Even now though, its a limited scope of experience I could have, and mostly, I just do not want to be around other people in person. It's just far too much sensory information to handle on top of the inner experience. I absolutely consider it in the family of hallucinogens, albeit mild compared to others like mushrooms or acid.
@inexplicablyleft2729 Жыл бұрын
I had that same experience smoking pot for the first time in 30 years. When he said "This is going to be an ordeal.", I remembered thinking the same thing. All sorts of hallucinations, but especially time distortions. My friend walked downstairs, then immediately back upstairs, but it felt like she had disappeared for at least a half hour. Interesting experience, and I think part of one of my two deep drags on the pipe might have been really nice, but I haven't smoked it again for 20 years.

Ah, man. When I was like fifteen, came home stoned to my parents house, went into my room, and discovered I could set my head in motion turning back and forth, and I couldn't stop it. Then my mom walked into my bedroom and said, "we're going to town for pizza," (they were playing cards with friends but I somehow stopped my head from going side to side) and she said I had to drive their new Cadillac to town...twenty miles away 'cause they had all been drinking. Oh man. I made it, ate a shit ton of pizza (mom remarked it was good that we ordered two family size pizza's) then drove home. They had more beer, so I had to drive home. But after having that much pizza and a few Pepsi's I was getting somewhere near coherent. Ah, the memories. Edit: This was like 1974. And I'm surprised I remembered it. Now all I use pot for is right before bed and I can go to sleep. If I did this during the day, I'd weigh 350 pounds in a few months I'm sure.

All I would focus on was happy memories from the past that were long gone, and then I'd realize how many years ago they were, and the racing thoughts/panic attacks would begin. That bit is so relatable for me. I had a panic attack/existential crisis for the first time on pot back when I was 19 and I have had trouble with marijuana ever since. I have used it here and there but I now have to be very careful of my intake: a half hit is plenty and I am not going to be very useful afterwards! 🤣 I can play a video game or do some mindless task like putting together a piece of Ikea furniture or something and that is about it. The thing that strikes me as bizarre is that stronger psychedelics like mushrooms don't give me that same panicky feeling.

I'm totally the same way. I had no clue in my teens how people were smoking tons of pot and having a good time and like going to school and work and such. Just recently I came across an article on this though. Apparently there is two parts of your brain that get 'lit up' when high. One is for euphoria and can be put to all the laughing and food cravings. The other is for fight/flight/freeze aka paranoia. It just so happens that some people have one part turned on way more than the other. I agree with other psychedelics too, they can't compete with some nights with marijuana.

It’s so funny and so true. When I was a young teenager pot was cheap and if it was home grown you basically had to literally keep smoking constantly to maintain the buzz. Columbian was my first experience with good pot. Not super powerful but a major step forward. We all know now that what’s available now can lay you out if you are a novice pot smoker. It can stop you cold. I’ve been smoking pot since about 1967.About 55 years. My motto has always been to never push someone to do anything they don’t want or not sure they want to try. Drugs and alchohol went hand in hand for me. Too much of a good thing really isn’t the way to go. I’m in a nursing home now and smoking is out of the question for me but I still get it in gel caps that I can take up to 12 per day for pain relief. It works good for me in. I was on oxys for 3 years and it was horrible. Give me my pot any day of the week. My tolerence is super high. When it became legal here in Canada it was a very emotional thing for my generation. I’ve been strip searched crossing the border to Detroit where many of my friends were. You could smuggle guns through the border but pot was treated like it was Heroin. If you had long hair you were a marked man. Brad figured it out. He learned it’s not for him. Then again I was dropping acid before I even started to drink beer. But that’s another story.

Basically sometimes the paranoia about how you’re acting freaks you out but nobody else even notices it, you think they all can tell but they really don’t, you’ll do something to hide your paranoia that’ll actually bring attention to yourself.

Yeah, that 's the ironic and uncomfortable paradox of Smoking pot. I can smoke hasch in minor doses, although a small level of paranoia always seeps in. If i smoke weed however,which I havent in many years,I will think the KGB is set up in the other house with binoculars. The older you get,the more trauma and awful shit is there to be stirred up when you smoke and concidering I got way too existential and angsty about half the time,stats suggested I should lay off the stuff.

It used to be mostly reggie brown weed up till the 80s. It was cheap! There was something called a “lid” which was a sandwich baggie filled to the lid of the baggie and cost about $25. Now, an eighth costs $35 minimum. I’ll never stop smoking though.🖖🏼

Ounces are now selling for $59-100+ in Michigan dispensaries. The average cost of an Ounce is $109 in Michigan now…about $200 cheaper than Illinois dispensaries. But I have seen ounces as low as $59! Adjusted for inflation a $59 ounce is cheaper than a $25 lid in the 70’s. $25 in 1975 is $139 in 2022 dollars! Also most of the weed I came across in the 80’s is what we called swag, or Mexican Ditch Weed. It’s so much better now.

@@HamburgerHelperDeath Helluva good point. It’s not so cheap in Arizona though.

They had good one-hit pot back then. We just called it premo. They had bad pot too. Depends where you got it from. They had vietnamese red , Alcapoco gold, columbian gold, Red Bud, African black bud, Jamaican. Many people only had access to Mexican and it was Garbage. Of course. I never smoked any.... The only diffrence is, good pot is more plentiful to all now.

I told this story before, but since y’all can relate so well. This happened to me. I hadn’t smoked for about 12 years. I noticed people taking little hits. One hit. They convinced me to smoke, so I said sure, but pack that bowl full and I’ll take it down in one hit. Everyone was like, “Nice!” I’m telling y’all, while I was still inhaling I already got too high. I’ve been too high before, I know when it’s coming. Not like this tho. It was so embarrassing. The room was spinning, when I closed my eyes it was spinning. I thought a black widow spider bit me at some point. I couldn’t stand up, sit down, or lay down. I was out of there. Hours of misery. For me, and everyone else. No one ever asked me to smoke again though. Even when it goes well, it’s still rough. I’m with Brad, give me a couch and food and no one talk to me. I’m going to be very uncomfortable for a few hours.

I made the same mistake, many years after the last one. It was awful. Defeated the whole 'drugs are fun' thing.

The first experience with a Whole Gummie saw me catatonic on my host's sofa for not less than 15 hours. Couldn't and DIDN'T move, did the whole time. Didn't even move to the restroom. My whole mind was engulfed by the subconscious. I was probably responding just enough to assuage her fears for my safety and to keep her from becoming alarmed. But I don't really quite remember. Water under the bridge, now.
