To clarify what happened to Fairy Godmother at the end, she cast a spell that basically cancels out all the magic within a target. If the spell hit Shrek or Fiona, it would have turned them back into ogres. When it hit Harold, it turned him back into a frog, and when the spell bounced off his armor and hit Fairy Godmother, it destroyed her because she's a purely magical being.
@leovk5779
@leovk5779 Жыл бұрын
Hm. I saw it more as a "kill" spell, she really wanted her revange, hence why she died, but the king's armor deflected most of it so he was less affected? (In my theory, that also might explain why in Shrek 3 -SPOILER REDACTED-, which came a bit out of nowhere.) Your explanation makes sense, but I feel it's too nice for the evil character that she is. "Ill just turn you back into ogres, that'll teach you!" And then what, how does that even help her in any way?
@peterseaboldt1250
@peterseaboldt1250 Жыл бұрын
@@leovk5779 I think in her mind, just having Shrek's "divine beauty" taken away and being an ogre is punishment enough. Plus, she was all about spoiling her son, so she likely wanted to see Charming fulfill his role by slaying the "monster" and getting the girl.
@leovk5779
@leovk5779 Жыл бұрын
@@peterseaboldt1250 Maybe, yeah. But she clearly aims at both of them, so it would also have made Fiona an ogre too. Any plan was out the window, I'm thinking she was more seeking revenge, but having Charming slaying "Shrek the monster" makes sense.
@peterseaboldt1250
@peterseaboldt1250 Жыл бұрын
@@leovk5779 If she turned Fiona into an ogre, Fairy Godmother could easily have turned her back, because Fiona's not "really" an ogre in the first place. In fact, some believe that Fairy Godmother is really the witch that caused her situation to begin with.
@leovk5779
@leovk5779 Жыл бұрын
@@peterseaboldt1250 Nah. That I don't believe at all: it's a curse, and even Fairy Godmother wasn't able to lift it easily. Everything points to that: she tried to send Charming, but too late; if she could have lifted the curse at any time, I don't think she would have missed the opportunity. Also, in Shrek 4 (SPOILERS just in case obviously) we see the parents desperate that say that even Fairy Godmother couldn't do anything, which means that even without Shrek her plan FAILS and Charming likely gets killed by the dragon. Fiona, having waited for so long, then rescue herself, with the curse not lifted. Also, after Shrek 1, yes Fiona IS really an ogre, the curse is lifted. She is, and I quote "beautiful in the eyes of her lover". That is her true form now, not just the curse lingering. The potion in Shrek 2 only temporarily turns her back into a human, and only true love's kiss could have definitively turned her into a human again (a power stronger than the curse, like in Shrek 1 and even Shrek 4, a power that even the Fairy Godmother cannot wield at will.)

Just like Donkey has become for Eddie Murphy, I think that Puss is the perfect career send-off for Antonio Banderas. Both were pretty hot stuff in their younger years, but now, they're iconic, so all anybody needs to do is hear their voices, and they know who they are. Nobody needs to see how much either man is aging, they just need to hear their voices, and pretend otherwise. lol

there were so many nods to other media in this movie (example: when puss and donkey are singing and it says "and go dancing in the rain", he sits in the chair and pulls the chain to make water rain down - that's an iconic scene from the 80's movie 'flashdance'), it's amazing. definitely one of the best sequels ever made.

Haha I also remember the American Idol competition as a special feature on the DVD with Simon Cowell. The fact that they have now made 2 Puss in Boots movies shows how big of a character introduction he was. Without him, it wouldn't be much of a sequel other than the fun music moments. I have fond memories because not only did my family get me the CD soundtrack of the film but the Shrek 2 video game was one of the few games I and my two sisters would play together on OG Xbox (the others being Battlefront 1(2004) and 2(2005)).

The climax is about 85% as to why I'd believe Shrek 2 is as loved as it is, but the whole movie is gold. The first Shrek was an amazing achievement from Dreamworks and a great parody kinda movie. He doesn’t wanna go to a place where him and his kind have been discriminated against for generations, and she convinces him otherwise. Yet the moment they get there they’re given immediate hostility, especially from her father. After argument at the dinner table, she tells Shrek that he’s being unreasonable when he actually wasn’t. Her father was the one who really started it, and all Shrek did was defend her and call him out on being neglectful father. At least the queen tried to keep things civil.

15:28 - "Oh the hat, yes!" - That's a nod to the Indiana Jones movies. 28:14 - Sitting in the chair in profile and pulling a chain to get drenched with water is an iconic scene from the movie Flashdance (1983).

Dear Nat, I have been watching various reaction videos for over 5 years, and I've seen many many different channels doing such things, and I just wanted to let you know that your channel has consistently been among my three favourites for over a year. I'm mostly here for your Marvel reactions (and I've actually rewatched some of your Marvel reactions, even though I almost never rewatch reactions), but I've also greatly enjoyed the non-Marvel stuff that I've seen. Keep it up. Signed, a fan.

Just wanted to add that the latino dub of this movie is HILARIOUS since they actually adapt the jokes to the latinamerican audience, even some that didn't really need to be adapted were changed to be even funnier in my opinion. My favorite change, which I do not know how they allowed to this day is: "Shrek and I drank a magic potion and now we both look...sexy!" *Looks at Puss* "...Shrek?" "For you baby...I'd be Batman"

Shrek two is unironically one of the best films ever made. I feel like part of what makes it so great, is that you don't expect it to be. I remember seeing this in theaters and expecting pretty much nothing from it. Yet it delivered in a way I never thought would be possible for a sequal about Shrek.

Shrek 2 is one of those phenomenon's where it seems almost universally, people recognize it as an amazing movie. I've talked to people all over the world who had seen it and they loved it, Shrek in general has such good storytelling and comedic moments. Considering it started as a punishment, people who didn't perform well on Prince of Egypt were "shreked", sent to work on what they thought was a failure, turned out to be a classic.

I remember when I first watched this movie. I was in 4th grade, and we were on vacation to Springfiled Illinois. My mom took my siblings and me to the movies to give my dad some time to rest without us being too loud. (We were 12-6 years old at the time.) I remember loving this movie. I loved fairy tales as a kid, Puss in Boots was my favorite. I like how they put in a hint to his original story about slaying an ogre into this by making it his job. I like that King Harold is hinted to be the Frog Prince. The swans in Fairy Godmothers factory turning into swans, the little Easter eggs are so good.
