The thing with lenses is that you have to ignore online pundits and "reviewers" and KZbin "pros" who actually make the majority of their money from getting you to buy the lenses and selling photo training materials to wannabe fans, not photography or video work. Also you gotta ignore gear heads on forums or youtube comments who like cool gadgets and showing off how much they spent more than actually making photos/videos. Gear heads will over state differences between lenses to stroke their own egos and justify they money, sometimes enough for good car or two, they have spent or even just want to spend on photo/video gear. They will say a bearely noticeably sharper lens at 100% view size on a 4K monitor "stomps" the kit lenses due to numbers the lens scores on test charts as if that matters at all lol. But the fact is for real world photo or video use EVERY current manufacture lens from the major players like Nikon, Tamron, Canon, Sony, Fuji, Olympus, ect and a great, great many from the 70s and 80s are more than sharp and corrected enough for real world photo and video use. Including making large gallery quality prints. Unless you know the specific thing a new lens will let you do that your current one wouldn't while trying to produce real work in the real world, and no sorry being a little better corrected or sightly sharper doesn't count gear heads, you don't need it and it's a waste of money to buy it. But admitting truths like that doesn't get you clicks on affiliate links, free review samples, brand sponsorships, or give you bragging rights on photo forums so you wont' hear it much. For video work the output size even at 4K is so tiny compared to the 16-50 megapixels the lenses are now designed to capture you will be very hard pressed to tell any difference between any modern lens image quality wise in the final 4K video file. At 1080P forget it they are all going to look about the same.
@josh8856 жыл бұрын
@Mekronid Yeah that is true also. The real point of my comment was that ALL modern lenses from major manufactures are "similar high-quality." The difference between say the Sony kit lens and an expensive prime is hair splitting at best IQ wise. You buy the prime for the faster aperture, or the way it renders colors, contrast, depth, bokeh ect, or in some cases smaller form factor, or because you just prefer to work that way, not for IQ. Even at 30- 50mp the difference IQ wise is so small it's not even worth worrying about for real photo/video work. Only internet commandos who have to one up each other on forums should worry about IQ at all these days with contemporary equipment.

things that set apart good lenses from bad ones are mainly and excuse my poor english (i'm german): - good lenses can produce sharper images mainly on the edge of the lens wich a bad one cant do so well - good lenses dont suffer from chromatic abberation that much (when filming metallic objects you get green and purple spill) - good lenses usually have better autofocus vs the bad ones and they have better control mechanisms, mainly in regards of holding the settings you set them to that beeing said, kit lenses are surely far from a good lens, but they are also far from a bad lens. for making youtube videos, the kit lens is sufficient enough and even for most amateur photographers they do the job just fine. people that dont know how to properly use the camera and in general have no idea of what they are talking about jerk about their lenses - they dont make them a better photo/videographer by themselfes. sigma is depending on the price range on par with the kit lense, at least for the canon ones i owned before. i think sony makes a bit better kit lenses than canon does. thing is, a lens is very expensive if you want a good one. if you buy the cheap stuff from sigma, you might aswell safe that money and stick to the kit lens. most manufacturers like sony canon and nikon do offer entry level lenses for a good price that cover most focal lenghts that are required under normal operating conditions. sorry for rambling here louis but i hope i can give you some advice back for all the useful stuff i've picked up from you (never would i have thought i'm going to repair one device, but beeing able to self-repair my shit is just priceless)

Louis, the kit lens is fine if you want everything in focus. You only buy a Sigma lens if you are after background blur (boca), which is achieved by lowering your F-stop value in the camera settings. If you need more clarity (less grain), on either lens you need to lower your ISO level and increase lighting levels. Lower F-stop may also require more lighting as the aperture size changes. Neither of those things may be practical for you if you're using it for live streaming repair on a co-op space. Either way, a DSLR is a big upgrade over webcam. A kit lens is still good.

And stills are much higher resolution than video, pretty much any lens has higher effective resolution than full hd today.

Minor correction for you Louis: MAX77596 pin 1 on the left isn't feedback, it's the high-side driver supply. If you short your input with that pin, you'll (probably) overvoltage C69072, which will fail short and connect your input to pin3 LX. Essentially connecting input to the inductor. Neither the IC nor whatever it powers will like that... I'd be pretty tense checking my handywork if i had to do that repair!

I love your brutal honesty, which I've seen in this and a few other videos so far. Even though I don't know shit about electronics, your videos are pretty easy to follow Something I'm curious about, how reliable would that jumper cable (edit: wire, not cable!) you installed be? Assuming no tampering, dropping the macbook (sorry, it's a PC now), or anything else, should that last?
@rossmanngroup5 жыл бұрын
Why thank you! I hope if you keep watching, you will know more than shit about electronics. :) The jumper wire will outlive me. Warranty issues with board repair, are mistakes of omission, rather than issues caused by a board repair. An area where we should have put a jumper, but didn't. A corroded component we missed. These cause warranty issues. The jumper is fine.

True story, I had a customer come in the auto shop who said his window wouldn't open/close. Window motor had power under load and a good ground. Window motor failure. We gave a quote for replacement. I overheard him talking about letting his son try the repair himself, so I let him know that the quote was for a unmolested service repair, and that he may need to pay more if his son fucks it all up inside the door. He leaves and comes back hours later and says he wants to do the repair as quoted originally. I open the door and as it opens you can hear all the loose screws rattling around in the bottom of the door, which were mostly unrecoverable. Price went up and he complained, and in the end we should have rejected the job. The car worked fine when we were done, but we didn't make enough for the job to be worth it. Maybe we should have quoted even higher.

@@dj-rocketman8545 hold their value ? why because you spent $1000 to $2000 more than you should in the first place? Or because you have to sell it to afford the next version the next year, that has the exact same hardware, but costs a little more ? Most of the time, you can't even get the latest and greatest hardware on a mac, they are consistantly 1 or 2 generations behind. When i buy or make my computers, it's top of the line for the money I'm spending and it lasts me (or who ever it's for) for years. When it's not my main system anymore, it becomes another server. BTW, no electronics hold their value, it's like buying a brand new car and as soon as you drive it off the lot, you lost $5000. The only thing macbooks really have going for them, is that they are all the same hardware, so you know that there are going to plenty of the same spare parts, eventually.

DJ - Rocket Man - So you say that he pulls facts out of his ass when you straight up blatantly lie about windows laptops being made out of shitty plastic? I have one thing to say to you, OVERPRICED SHITTY OUTDATED HARDWARE that’s the best way I can describe apple, sure they have the os going for them, but, it’s so fucking bad that it physically hurts me to use. I can honestly say that I would rather pay msrp for a laptop that’ll last me for years then overpay 1.5-2x msrp for some laptop because oOoOh its aluminum or “ but it has the shiny logo so it must be good” honestly try and educate yourself about computers before trying to argue about them
@tyrzxv5 жыл бұрын
@@dj-rocketman8545 lol, i like how you call me a fan-boy because i'm basically saying, buy anything else because you'll get a better deal.... that makes me exactly NOT a fan-boy of any type. There are people who constantly buy the newest apple-anything as soon as it comes out, apple counts on this heavily, which is why they have their constant cycle of release-rinse-repeat despite hardly anything changed hardware-wise. And by the way, sales are down for apple, because of this. Yes, cars and electronics do not hold their value (well, except maybe classic cars). Go to a pawn shop or hell, ebay and sell your 10 year old electronics for the price you paid, not gonna happen... so yea, it didn't hold it's value. This isn't rocket science. Buy some land, and sell it for how much you paid... not so hard, because it held it's value. This is simple english... if something holds it's vaule, it literally means that its not worth less later in it's life than what you paid. Gold, Silver, Diamonds... all the things rich people put their money into so they don't loose it when money value drops... none of them go out and buy piles of electronics to later sell and get their money back. Mac books are made of aluminum, fairy dust, and cool stuff... except they couldn't even do it right, so the top of the line mac book throttles down the CPU so it doesn't overheat, making the top of the line intel processor you can get on it, basically a mid grade i5... all this, despite the mac book being made out of aluminum (which means it should cool down much better). Now, do yourself a favor and google "aluminum laptop" and see what pops up ? a whole lot of NON-APPLE products. This isn't the 1800's, everybody has access to aluminum, and apple hasn't tried to patent it... yet... like they did with round corners lol. But you do say that everybody gets them because of final cut pro and the OS. I know a handful of developers, game designers, and aerospace engineers who have or had a macbook and generally they boot up linux, unix, or even windows7 or 10 to do their actual work. I think only 1 has kept the Mac OS as a dual boot option. Why do they do this ? because they love the screen and/or keyboard, and they generally don't have to pay for their company machines, not because of the struggling MacOS. Don't even get started with how stagnant it's become... apple's put all of it's software force working on it's mobile stuff, and the security holes in it's computer OS keep bubbling up. Ask your local IT security professonal and wait for him/her to start rolling their eyes. I'm not saying Apple makes totally crappy machines, they have some good hardware sometimes, but it rarely is worth the price you pay. I even had one of the first Macs way back in the day (80's), and I've been in this industry for quite a while now. If you really want a Mac, just be honest with yourself that either (A) you don't really know what your doing with computers, (B) are forced to use software that only exists on apple machines, or (C) want to be a part of the apple-life-style they advertise non-stop to you..... or (D) can get your company to buy you one and know how to install a different OS so you can actually get work done with it. P.S. If you like apple, fine, it doesn't really matter... I just find it completely funny when somebody says "my computer holds it's value" or "Apple is the best because it's Apple". These types of statements are what people say when they don't really know what they are talking about, but really don't have any other way to defend the way they feel about their product.
