I ordered the Louis Vuitton Onthego MM online and finally received it. I genuinely feel underwhelmed by it. There are indeed things I like about it; however, upon unboxing, I knew it would be going back. Am I the only one?! Watch to find out why as I share my first impression. I just received my On the Go MM and I absolutely love it! The workmanship is impeccable…no defects whatsoever. Mine has leather and canvas…leather shoulder straps instead of the canvas shown in the video. No frayed edges in the canvas whatsoever. It makes me wonder if the one on the video is a fake…as I’ve never had an issue with LV… I own several bags and ready to wear!

I have the GM Onthego and I love love love it. I don't find it that heavy...in fact, it's my favorite of all my bags...I love the style, the large monogram, the shoulder straps, to me it's perfect...it's exactly what they call it ....a tote! It looks adorable on you.

Hi Amy.😊I ordered the GM On The Go tote three times before receiving one not defective. My first one was sent back due to looking like it was a return. It had some kind of stain on it and looked used. The second one I received, the flowers on the bottom didn’t line up, the clasp we’re not even, the inside canvas was extremely wrinkled and the top inside coated canvas was cut very uneven. It wasn’t pretty! I decided to try a third time and I really love the bag! Louis Vuitton is basically hit or miss. Oh and I have to order overnight shipping or receive damaged boxes.

I have the On the go tote reverse monogram. It is indeed a beautiful bag and I get so many compliments on this bag. My bag has no smell and is just perfect. I highly recommend this bag it is a perfect size and is very comfortable to carry. I have had my bag over a year with no issues. Sorry it didn’t work for you but I love it!

The MM is the perfect size it holds everything. In addition to the MM reverse monogram I have a GM in black empreinte leather and I hardly use it it’s beautiful too but a little heavier than the MM.

I have the OTG GM and I love it - I don’t think it’s too big on my frame and I’m 5’0” however it is kinda heavy. The longer shoulder straps and top handles are what sold me. I don’t like the shorter shoulder straps of the MM 🤗

I have this exact one, Onthego MM in monogram reverse, and I love it! Its practical as it fits my Macbook Air 13" (flat against one side, not diagonally as in this video) as the bag is 35 cm in length. It fits my lunch, big water bottle, umbrella, gloves, LV Toiletry 26 and much more. Its durable for rainy and snowy weather too!👍🏻

I just got my new MM tote with the black straps yesterday. At first I was hesitant getting it but After seeing it I love it! The straps are also a little longer than the original mm size. Mine is made in France no smell and perfect not sure if that has anything to do with it. I’m living it!!

I ordered yesterday and received today the OTG mm in empriente black. If I’m going to buy this, I want leather! The smell is heavenly. I don’t see any defects but will inspect again. The weight is an issue. But I have a Coach rouge that is heavy and fits very little.

I just purchased this bag and love it and looks so chic and casual hand held.i I would never carry this on my shoulder.......I am not a Neverful person..like everyone.i had zero smell and honestly don’t find it heavy at all....I don’t carry a lot..I can’t believe you find it so heavy....honestly...I find it light...the neverful is just a drag bag to me....no comparison....I love it...I find my Capucines heavy....actually I just saw Maria Dragona fit her 13” inch perfectly straight at the back..how strange......

If you paid attention, you would have heard me say that my laptop is an older model. Maria's laptop is the pro version and a newer version so obviously it would fit because the newer model is smaller. Comparing this bag to the Neverfull is a way to help others decide whether they'd like this bag or not as most people know or own the Neverfull. Weight is relative to each individual of course and I also said that most people would probably not mind the weight.

Wow....I was leaving my opinion in your comment section as I came across a bag I just purchased and love.....I certainly didn’t expect you to be so offended and reply in such a manner....my goodness, we are just talking about bags ......and I was observing differences of opinions amongst people owning the same bag.......that’s all... as I own many Chanel’s, Louis Vuitton, Dior and the usual suspects, I too am a lover.......I honestly don’t see a comparison between this bag and a Speedy or a Neverful....those common bags serve different purposes....and this is a new and different look.....just fun...my associate in the Rodeo Drive store called me as soon as he received it and I think it is cute....ok...

Thank you for your detailed review. Louis Vuitton changed the straps for the Onthego. Now, the straps are black. Some ladies claim the Damier Ebene Neverfull is more comfortable than the one with natural leather straps, so the Onthego with the new straps may be more comfortable.

Agree with you on the craftsmanship! I’ve been underwhelmed recently by the craftsmanship of LV when I recently visited the store in Singapore..rather disappointing given I do like some of their designs. Have you considered the Dior book tote in the small size? Any thoughts on it? As always, appreciate your detailed sharing of the LV bag :)

I love that there is the smaller size book tote now but it seems a bit simple for the price and material. But I have to say it looks amazing and many encouragement to get the Book Tote instead! I shall see!

I tried on the OnTheGo MM today at the boutique at my CA’s suggestion. Surprisingly, I like it after seeing and trying it in person. It’s not too bulky and the strap is now leather instead of canvas so it’s definitely a plus. Seriously thinking about getting it.

The neverfull will fit the 13” laptop not 23” but I still don’t recommend it as a laptop bag, it is not practical for that.

I just added ONTHEGO MM reverse bag to my LV collection. According to the straps, mine ONTHEGO is with black leather which is definitely more better than the canvas one. More over, I liked the design compared to NEVERFULL ( MM, GM) specially the NEVERFULL is fell from shoulder easily and if I am doing shopping or have a time in a restaurant it is opening widely compared to ONTHEGO. I agree with you that GM size is VERY huge even for person in 1.80 cc hight ..! MM size is just perfect ..!

I’m not sure if we have the same luck. I’m not one to buy LV every season, not at all. My bag is over 10 yrs old. My wallet is over 8. Long story short, had a very similar reaction a couple of years ago with the LV OTG in mm. It went right back. Just last month I bought an Empriente and the stamping on the leather was almost none existent on the top quadrant of the bag. It was so bad I was in tears because I waited for the bag to come back in stock and what I received was so defective. I returned it again. And of course they raised the prices, yet again. Happy for many who have not had any problems with their LV purchases. The lack in quality and QC is uncalled for, for the price ppl are paying.

I wish I actually listened to you about the raw edges. I was too obsessed with the hunt to get the mm. Even though I personally like the size for me (5'2), it is the LEAST durable canvas bag I own!!!!! Let alone every time I would carefully put it on my passenger seat, it started damaging my seat...limited edition BMW color (thankfully my brother has an auto upholstering shop) so I can replace with oem. Anyways, back to the bag, my edges started to do the white thing on all sides (the actual whole sides), minimal but frustrating because I'm very meticulous. Also I have a bag organizer however when I decided I was probably going to sell this bag, the inside had this weird fade mark and I never had anything touch the material! Then the canvas itself would get these weird spots on it and I treated the whole bag prior to use. I have the edition with the black leather straps and they are comfortable, but not as cute as the original. Ive never been so let down by an LV bag! I have no idea why others aren't seeing this. I know I'm not the only one! *****Buyers beware and LISTEN to her!***** She is 1,000% right for returning it! Now I just learned a very expensive lesson. DON'T GET SUCKED INTO THE HYPE. Its pretty, but that's it! Also a side note, normally I have the mentality of if I'm buying it, just because of the name or price, its getting used. I always felt the need to baby this bag because of all of the stupid things that kept happening! BOOO Louis Vuitton!

Don’t get me started on the craftsmanship . I got a Neonoe . In 4 months the glazing started peeling . I went into LV , and the SA said it was normal wear and I could pay to have it shipped out and fixed . 4 months !!!! This should not be happening ! I have 10+ year old bags w/o issues .

I ordered the Escale GM in pastel and it’s way too big in my opinion. The only use I can see for it would be travel and it may even be too heavy for that. I’m 5’8” and I thought it looked large on me. Considering how I tend to weigh a large bag down given the chance, I had to send mine back too.

I just received my Louis Vuitton Onthego MM! I already own an Onthego GM and I love both of them! The GM is great for traveling and the MM is good for everyday. My MM fits my 13" MacBook Pro straight (not diagonally) although it's a snug fit. Weight-wise, the GM is a bit heavier than the MM, but manageable. Both my bags don't have the glazing issue and chemical smell, so I'm shocked to see that you have received a defective bag! I'm so sad it doesn't work out for you, as it looks stunning on you! I noticed the same smell when I got this bag for my wife...I almost felt like I had to let it sit out for a while... eventually it went down a bit but still smells a little.they claim if it smells like chemicals it's not authentic...wrong!!!

The structure and bulkiness remind me of the Chanel GST that I have. When I carry it under my arm it doesn't feel very comfortable. I can imagine it is comparable to how the OTG tote feels like.

I tried on the GM size at the boutique and it looked amazing but given that I’m not really a tote bag gal, I didn’t buy it. I’m a minimalist and don’t carry much with me, so much of the bag would be unused/empty. I considered checking out the MM size instead, but after watching this video, I’ll pass. It’s gorgeous but doesn’t seem functional with the heavier weight and if there’s a smell, that’s just a no-no. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Thanks for making this video!! Very helpful.

Glad you did this video, Amy. I had planned on getting the mm onthego in epi leather for work. I saw someone put a 13" macbook in the mm onthego and it fits flat (not diagonal). I wonder why that is the case. It wasn't stretched out either. I drive to work so the weight isn't as big of an issue. It looks great on you at the long shoulder strap length I think!

I am wondering if the craftsmanship issues are related to the USA factory. Mine is made in Italy and have no issue/concern at all. I generally experience more issues with the USA ones than the France/Italy items.

Thank you for this very detailed video on the MM!I own the GM and love it.The straps are indeed not very comfortable,if you add too much weight,but I need a big &structured work bag.The straps on the GM are longer,what makes it more comfortable imho.The smell went away VERY quickly,I was worried about the smell first thing,too.I think it is because the production is FRESH. It gets produced and BOOM it stands on your table. No time for airing out in the warehouse or such. My Mini Pochette,that I just luckily purchased,was the same.But now,4 days later,it smells just like they ever smelled new. I am not a big fan of the Onthego MM.Don't ask me.I prefer the GM Before I carried the Raspail MM for 4-5 years,and that one is more heavy.But that is what structured bag-lovers need to live with.Thicker Canvas:Heavier bags ❤P.S.The price in Germany is 1780 Euro,for the GM....oversea-prices are ridiculous🙈🙈🙈

Dear Amy, thank you for such an honest video. All of the cons you pointed out were very helpful, as I had not thought of most these. It makes me wonder how heavy the GM! It's such a shame to see the decline in LV quality. I have a few pieces from the early 90's which are still in awesome shape, and I don't think today's pieces will be in such good shape in 25ish years time.

I own the GM reverse Canvas and it is 1200g empty.I don't find it heavy for such a structured bag...lets say lovers of structured bags(my Raspail seems to have doubled canvas)are used to a bit more weight anyway.I also own the Speedy b25,and for sure it is a lightweight,but it has no structure and a very thin canvas.So it is not good for comparison,imho.I had no issues with production issues,but maybe it is because I am from EU...?I never received any items produced overseas....🤔

Bonjour Amy 👋🏻 Revue très intéressante (comme toujours ;)) ! J’avais rejeté le On The Go maintenant MM pour les mêmes raisons : trop lourd, trop large ... Mais j’avais de l’espoir en entendant parler d’une taille plus petite ... Mais, si il a les mêmes inconvénients que le MM sans les avantages (ne peut contenir un ordinateur) : aucun intérêt !! As tu réfléchis au Book tote de Dior ? Il est beaucoup plus léger car en toile et même la grande taille est confortable ... peut-être que la nouvelle taille te conviendrait ? Je sais que le prix est tres élevé pour un sac en toile mais après tout les sacs LV aussi sont en toile même si elle est enduite 😬 !!! XOXO

Je n'avais pas considéré le Book Tote de Dior à cause du manque de bandoulière mais je vais peut-être le revoir de nouveau. Comment s'use-t-elle au fil du temps la toile du Book Tote?

FashionablyAMY Je n’ai beaucoup de recul sur l’usure sur le long terme mais le tissage de la toile est très serré donc je ne pense pas que des fills puissent être tirés facilement, de plus la couleur de fond est plus beige que blanc donc moins salissant 😉( et on peut mettre des Mitzah en Dior oblique ton sur ton pour protéger les anses : le rendu est plutôt joli ). Pour les anses, je penses que tu pourras le porter a l’épaule sans problème (comme tu es petite et mince) mais peut-être que tu ne le trouveras pas aussi confortable le Neverfull .... En résumé : il me paraît très résistant (aucune usure des coins pour l’instant) mais a essayer en boutique tout de même pour voir si le « porter épaule » est assez confortable pour toi ! 😘

Thank you, so helpful. I love these structured tote styles as top handles only. I’m short and curvy so it would just stick out at an angle off my hip. It’s too heavy, too expensive for what it is and I feel a bit too ostentatious to walk down a city street with as a top handle. That said I still love it when I spot it on someone else at the grocery store lol, jus not for me.

Don’t even bother with the Emprient version. If you find the canvas heavy, the all leather is ridiculous. I tried the GM (MM not available in HK yet) in the store and could not believe how they thought women would happily buy sthg that heavy. But it’s such a visually lovely bag. I’m hoping they’ll come with a BB version

Yes I agree this looks to rigid and boxy and it’s shocking the smell can be so bad ! I wonder if they used a lot of glue ??!! Well at least you now know it doesn’t work and a pass!! Onto better choices !! Thanks for sharing !!

Yes the smell only happens to made in USA ones, I've never encountered this smell in MIF or MII or MIS. Don't know why but it's too bad as we get most stock from MIU.

I just got the new MM with the longer straps. At first I was hesitant because they are black however I’m happily pleased with it. It goes well together and blends well with the bag.

I also returned this bag. I am petite but more curvy and I don't have the neverfull but i never was really a tote person as I have two others I don't even use. I liked the aesthetic of the bag and what sold me was the two ways to carry it. The GM was huge on me for everyday, good for travel but it is a better size. I feel like this is between the PM and MM Neverfull. I was so dissapointed! Also the strap drop was sooo soo short. Wish it was as long as the GM. Just lots of things about it that was disappointing and for that price here in Canada, it's definitely not worth it! I got it at the boutique in Toronto but I was with my baby so I didn't get a chance to take a look at it but the moment it got pulled out, I said "WOW, IT'S SO SMALL". I wish it was bigger! Anyway, thanks for the review anyway! Loveee going to your channel for your thoughts on bags! :) P.S. I was able to get the PSM new version online by stalking the website and I know you loved that bag, you should add it to your collection again! I always loved it for years but never got it because of all the known issues so when they released the updated zipper, I had to try. They sell out so fast when they do get them in Toronto and I'm very close to my CA but it was actually easier for me to get online and it came perfect! When i decided I wanted it, it took me a few days to stalk the website but I got it and was so lucky :)

Ooh when I saw this video , I had to run and take a closer look and inspect my 9th mm . Whoosh didn't see any of those defects and I never smelled anything bad. Only thing I was concerned about is it is smaller than I thought it would be. So I keep going back and forth about whether I should keep the Mm or trade for gm size😩 You should consider just exchanging it for another one because it sure does look good on you.

Good thing I didn't buy one, I initially thought it would be bigger than a neverfull because of the size and all! Eventually gotten a caviar deauville, well still similar to a neverfull but totally different in material and design i guess. Thanks for the video!

Thanks Sira! Luckily Australia receives their stock from Europe so chances are you won't the same problem. I find that bags made in USA are less consistent quality wise!
