It was a clever quote, but nonsense. Reagan was a part of the movement conservatives who wanted to dismantle the work done by the Roosevelts. Such a silly hypocritical theory, that shrinking government somehow fixes corruption or lessens the load on taxpayers (all while deregulating + cutting taxes for the rich, and raising them for those at the bottom).

Ronald Reagan was an earthy, normal looking American with ruddy handsome looks. He was so natural acting in front if the camera. What a charm and this was an excellent entertaining movie with great acting all around. The script was awesome.

WOW! Spring Byington and Ronald Reagan. When Reagan became Gover'nor then Pres., all movies he had been in were "put away" somewhere. It was feared his portrail of different characters would cast an unfavorable bias all around. But Spring Byington has and always will be truly one of a kind. Someone to love in anything she did.

8/5/2021: Oh, they can MAKE them, but our society, for the most part, is so “raunchy and polluted” now that MOST would not go to see a movie like this and the industry would lose 💰 money.
They do: it's called The Hallmark Channel. Unwatchable by most thinking adults, but there they are. For my part, I believe it's a tragedy Spring Byington, such a great artist, never got a chance to tackle an honest, meaty script. Filled with truth and, yes: bad language. Same with Doris Day: great artist, hobbled by a self-censoring era of bland entertainment choices that discouraged critical thinking.

I was born into the world in the forties: It was a terrible world, children were taken away from young unmarried mothers; Blacks were lynched; Blacks and Browns were not allowed to vote because of Jim Crow. I was 11 when "Louisa" came out, and I vaguely remember seeing it in my hometown movie theatre, and enjoying it even then. At that time I didn't give a second thought to that Limbo game played by the people at the square dance. Now, however, I was so impressed at those "old" folks (in their 60's) being able to get down so low! Watching that today, I marveled at Spring Byington and Charles Coburn and their supple joints each time they went under the bar. Great scene, so much fun to watch! Did anyone else notice the brief appearances of Willard Waterman (AKA the great Gildersleeve) and an impossibly young looking Martin Milner?

Charming, funny, and poignant movie. You uploaded another winner. I hate to say it again but, "Ah. The good 'ol days". But I'm remembering all the weddings I've attended and didn't believe in. Usually couples "shacked up" for many years with kids, or clueless couples with no concept of the commitment required as they bounce from marriage to marriage. Or a "bridezilla" intent on spending massive amounts of Daddy's or their fiance's hard earned money so she can be a spoiled "princess" for ONE day. NONE of those a reason to celebrate or rejoice. However, I have witnessed older couples (whose weddings were before ME) that lived their entire lives together without cheating. They endured many tough times and had to work hard at being selfLESS but stayed happily married to their last day together. Their deathbed partings were more beautiful than the weddings I've been at. But at least I know LOVE FOR A LIFETIME is very possible. It's not merely a fairytale or the stuff found in movies. It gives hope to those of us who have held out, sometimes against overwhelming loneliness, in order to do it right and to pass on that torch of hope to the following generations so they have a chance at not being broken, abused wrecks but will KNOW that true love exists and is WORTH the sacrifices. Laura, You are so right about the way marriage was treated so differently in our generation. I graduated in 1960 when we had prayer and Bible reading on the PA system every morning. All the students were not Christians but God was still honored as the Creator of men and women. Then they kicked God out, started teaching kids they came from animals and there was no God. I have watched our country steadily going downward ever since, and today they are teaching young children porn in the public schools. Garbage in, garbage out. We sow and we reap what we sow and more than we sow. I do not attend a wedding unless I can witness it with joy. People who live together and have a large wedding and the bride wears a white gown are mocking marriage to me. I like that they are finally marrying, but they have already put the cart before the horse.

I adore this movie! ❤ Thank you for sharing, I haven't laughed this much in years. My mother used to have the same exact hairdo as Mr. Reagan's wife. Men wore suits every single day, and women wore dresses every day, even to do the daily cooking and daily cleaning. A better world all the way around. Very sad that all the young generations will never know how very decently people used to live and treat each other.

You are so right. While I never wanted to wear a shirt dress and pearls to clean house, the way young people dress today is downright whore'ish. Saw a girl at a nice restaurant come walking by with her male 'friend'. She had taken an old, threadbare tshirt and cut it straight up the middle, then tied it up under her big saggy boobs (no bra) and looking like she would spill out of it at any time. Maybe he was her pimp, but I was shocked to see that in my home area that used to be relatively upscale people and not the trash this girl and her pal represented.

MOvies had class back then, the plots were intelligent, there was not political correctness shoved down the viewers' throats, women knew their places and men actually worked outside the home and took care of their families. Thank you for posting these films. When I was 12 they used to show 'grey' - my teenage neice didn't know they are called black and white lol - films every Saturday afternoon. It was a real treat to watch them every week and to be able to revisit them now. I always feel incredibly relaxed after them too

Many of the films from this "Chris Johnson" are very good, partly because he puts out many of the stories from the 1940's & 1950's...the Golden Hollywood " years.

Delightful movie. Spring Byington, Edmund Gwynn, Charles Coburn, Ronald Reagan, Ruth Hussey, and the entire cast were fantastic. A wonderful movie to watch on Christmas Eve.

I wonder? I think the world and the people were just the same, it was just easier to hide the less pleasant aspects of humanity and society back then; bad things didn't happen to 'nice people like us' (insert your own socio-economic, racial, religious, political identity here) only to 'those people' (insert your own personal prejudice here).

Wasn't until I was older that I saw Reagan's movies! Such a talented actor! He cracks me up! All the cast was excellent! Great plot! Thank you so much for sharing!

@@katherinehogan6622 The movie was released by Universal/International in the U.S. on 31 May 1950, so I would presume that it was made in early 1950.

Excellent movie. The night Reagan was elected President in 1980, this movie was played in celebration, in Los Angeles.
