Thank you for explaining as you go, many artists are really just showing off how good they are, and are terrible at actually teaching. Your very helpful. And love your calm tone.

Did you use water colour pencils to draw the iris? I notice that the outline is quite a noticeable after you did the first wash.

Dear louise, i sent a comment in the middle of night a few days ago because of how impressed i was w both ur tutorials & skill! I have a question re wet paper painting. Im using strathmore wc paper, 140lbs & lighter canson mixed media. My issue is to get the paint to move on wet, i have to FLOOD the paper, which seems excessive. Even then it soaks in immediately. I couldnt believe how u were able to return w other paint on the same area & have the paint still move so much. Ive been practicing & watching ur vids for 3 days & cant figure out y mine dries so immediately. Do u have any suggestions to offer?? I would appreciate it so much! I know ur busy... Im limited to 1 poorly stocked craft store due to disability/inability to drive, & hate to 'guess' order online. I like to use as light of paper as possible as i like to fussy cut flowers & use on mixed media. I love watercolors, & see how wetting 1st makes huge difference. Even flooding often leaves paint to just sit : )
@LouiseDeMasi5 жыл бұрын
Hi Karen, I've never used Strathmore or Canson watercolour paper so I can't give you any insight there I'm sorry. I use Arches paper. I find it has a slow absorption rate. The water sits on the paper for some time which allows me plenty of working time and it makes applying washes much more controllable. Arches paper is 'sized' to its core. The amount of sizing determines how the paper will resist water penetration and abrasion. It affects the way washes will sit on the paper and it also effects the degree of luminosity when it has dried. If you're having trouble keeping the paper wet you could try priming it first. By that I mean, wet the area you want to work wet on wet and let it almost dry. Then re-wet it and start working. That allows that first layer of water to penetrate into the layers of the paper and hopefully the 2nd time you wet it - it may stay workable for longer.
@karenopet12235 жыл бұрын
@@LouiseDeMasi thank you so much for responding! You must get tons of questions, & u helped me tremendously! The Arches brand was mentioned 2x today so i an definately ordering it. When u say the amt of sizing determines how it handles water, does the arches/brands by you list the sizing on it? I got out all my paper & no mention of sizing. There r no true 'art' stores by me, just craft store chains & ea one only carries those 2 brands. Even the best i think is still cheaply made. The priming helped a ton! Do you always use a heavy weighted paper such as 140lb? I saw u have classes but was unable to see much w/o signing up. If i sign up for some classes, do we need to provide our own copy of say a hydrangea pic or rose pic or do you allow a printable download to follow you? I ask since i can not sketch well.
