Other painters refer to, in this example, using salt but the detail IS important and a proper examination of the effects achievable and the examples of use in paintings that you have incorporated the technique into are also invaluable. Louise, did you know that the heavy pigmented colours that granulate work even better with salt? The results are much better than with paints that dont granulate. You can mix your paint colours, but one always has to be a granulating one...especially for backgrounds the sea salt brings amazing results..... .regards Robyn

Thanks Louise. I reviewed this tutorial on applying salt. I tried grinding course sea salt created an in between effect which suited the painting. I followed your instruction on the wetness of paper and it was effective.

It's a difficult medium to use when you first start but it's my favourite medium by far. I tried at first and gave up because I found painting in acrylic paint was much easier. I stepped out of my comfort zone a second time and I tried it again and I was determined this second time to not let it beat me. I'm so glad I did. Don't give up!

Great video, I really appreciate seeing how you apply the salt and the different effects. I have used salt before but didn't get the dramatic textures you've shown, I think I applied it too early when the paint was too wet. Will try again after seeing the fantastic results you get.
