Stephen64138 That's why I'm fortunate enough to possess Legends continuity. Thrawn's Imperial Remnant, Palpatine's return, Jacen becoming Darth Caedus, the Yuuzhan Vong war, Darth Krayt's One Sith Empire... there's so many better stories out there than the crap Disney is forcing down our throats while demanding we thank them for the privilege.
@patrioticjustice90404 жыл бұрын
Hassan Syed Maybe the way it was portrayed was bad, but the story itself was pretty good. - A boy born a slave destined to save the galaxy from a great evil. - The boy trains, struggling to overcome his continuous loss (Qui-Gon, his mother, his arm, his apprentice) - The boy grows, being championed as the hero to many and an inspiration of hope during a time of darkness. - The boy learns of further loss to come and desperately seeks to save the life of the woman he loves. - In his desperation, the boy pledges himself to the very thing he was destined to destroy. - The boy loses everything he sought to protect; his friends, his Republic, his wife and child, and his power, and once again becomes a slave to another master.
@patrioticjustice90404 жыл бұрын
Stephen64138 True. The main part I liked about the prequels was the lightsaber duels and the battles. I mean, compare the Battle of Geonosis with the Battle of Endor, and it's a night and day difference. But I also liked seeing more of Vader's backstory; how we were able to see the story how he was actually a victim rather than a villain. Also agree; the sequels are pure trash. That's why I recommend Legends continuity.

When I felt myself falling into active alcoholism I became obsessed with Darth Vader and these types of videos on KZbin. I related his fall to the dark side to my fall to alcoholism. I used to be like young Anakin in the Phantom Menance, a bright happy young boy full of dreams and now I was a man where I could see my life slowly start to fall apart, being in a state of either drunk or hungover, the dark side changing me into a bitter, sarcastic, angry, restless, depressed person. Anakin losing his wife through his own failures was a metaphor for my failing marriage (note I wasn't physically abusive like Anakin) and I was pushing her away. I would get wasted drunk and watch these 'fall to the darkside' videos over and over again and just cry. I'm happy to say I'm 2 years sober next month and I'm thriving. I literally chose the light side and every single moment I'm full of this all encompassing Buddha-like joy and wellbeing. "You were right, tell your sister you were right"
@omegamysterio37012 жыл бұрын
Anakin Skywalker has always been my favorite character, there is so much to who he is at his core. He was hero, but also a victim. He was indeed very powerful. He caused pain as Vader but he also felt pain. He was a young innocent and troubled child in episode 1, a conflicted and barely held together young man who was torn between many things and damaged by loss and grief and guilt by episode 2, and by the time of episode 3 he'd been through so much pain and loss and seen so much darkness and evil throughout the clone wars that it broke him down even more and none of the Jedi could ever understand what he'd been through and his struggles nor did they even try to understand. And in the end, he was a broken man placed in a black suit, believing he deserved this for the things he'd done, believing he was beyond redemption, that he deserved to be the thing he hated most beyond himself: a slave. It took one person his own son not giving up on him when all others including Vader himself had, to remind him who he truly was and he found himself again. He faced his death as a Jedi Knight and a father, he truly was and is the most important part of Star Wars. I'll always love him for who he truly was at his core: a good but flawed man who was made into a broken slave that found his way back again. Anakin Skywalker/ Darth Vader IS Star Wars. This has always been his story.

Gotta love the way the Sequels looked at this story and said, “Nah, the story obviously isn’t finished. Needs some ad-libbed soft reboot story. Nah, Anakin doesn’t matter, look at this cool new girl, REY! Look, she killed Palpatine! Not Anakin, REY!” This is the reason I don’t consider the Sequels canon. Rogue One? Heck yeah! Solo? For Vader to have that memory of speaking with the ghost of Qui-Gon at the end telling him "you'll find another way" as he takes that last glance out at the stars where the Millenium Falcon just jumped away, and considering what had just transpired on Bespin trying to convince Luke to join him, it genuinely makes me feel sorry for him. It's also a great way to interpret Vader's silence in that moment, you know, why he doesn't immediately strangle half the bridge crew for losing the Falcon, AGAIN. Somewhere in there his heart was set on overthrowing Palpatine with Luke, and when Luke got away, Vader is left there thinking 'Luke was my only chance, what do I do now? I can't defeat the Emperor alone and no one else would stand a chance'. Then THAT memory pops up and he just strides across the bridge, too lost in thought to care about punishing his officers. I loved how HFP showed the good in him fighting to get out, that buried deep down in there somewere he still holds on to the belief that he is the Chosen One in that moment, and that one way or another his destiny is supposed to be to bring balance to the Force......somehow. "you'll find another way". Beautifully edited there!

Couldn't catch which you said was your favorite there. Tried hearing it over and over, but I couldn't even place which name it came close to. Sounded like "doctor" something... Nvm, I googled "doctor a" and got Doctor Aphra. Which I think is the one intended. Due to the craptastic trilogy, I can't get into any of the newly released stuff, so I didn't know of her. She could have been an amazingly written character, but it wouldn't save Disney SW from their SW concept destroying plot holes(weaponized light speed being the worst of it). My personal favorite is Kreia/ *Spoilder Alert* Darth Traya. From the KOTOR 2 game/old republic lore. Competitors for the top spot being Darth Plagueis, Revan, Vitiate, HK-47, Qui-gon, and Yoda(original Yoda). Ashoka, Mira, and Atton Rand all get honorable mentions(Atton in particular, was well written for his role. And Mira a very unique character idea. But neither were as compelling as Kreia, they were fascinating in their own right - But they couldn't hold a candle to Kreia's unique, intricate and world altering philosophy/perspectives).

I sincerely hope that, someday, Kathleen, J.J. and Rian can look back on the sequels with some new perspective and realize how much they've undone from Luke & Anakin's sacrifices (particularly J.J. with *TRoS).* I have faith that the majority of fans who enjoy the sequels will grow to look beyond their subjective preferences (though I've never taken issue with people liking the sequels regardless).
