+Daniel Misgana Honestly I think it's just too late. We elect those in power who promise ideals for the better of humanity but once in power they then succumb to the greed. The people don't own this world, the banks do and as I mentioned, unfortunately this is capitalism. Living in the western world you see it everyday. Climate change has been proven and still oil companies rape and pillage what's left. How much money can someone really spend when we still have starving people in the world. Any normal decent person thinks about this for a while but in reality when tomorrow comes it is probably the furthest thought in your mind. Peace

I can't see the government doing anything about this loss of marsh because of the huge economic impact of the oil industry. @Ken-kf9qj9 жыл бұрын
+Colby Nicholson - Not a very smart comment. Oil and gas are directly responsible for flooding, as well as many other issues the planet is battling. If anyone ever wants to understand an industry, one only needs to look at their lobby. Oil and gas are the leader in money spent on lobbies. It's all about paying off politicians, and massaging the message. If an industry is playing above board then what is the need for a lobby? But have now fear, oil and gas boy. BMW recently announced that all of their cars will be hybrids and pure electric vehicles within 10 to 20 years. They even have an electric 18 wheeler in the works. The fossil fuel industries days are numbered, and thank goodness. They'll be cheaper, faster, more efficient, lighter, and in time, will replace all of these noisy smog machines.

Consider a similar gas-powered car, which gets 35 mpg. Gasoline contains about 33kwh of energy per gallon. The state and people of Louisiana sees almost none of that oil and gas money. Most of the oil and gas production off-shore is technically federally owned, so Louisiana isn't able to tax it like Alaska can (even though the fields would fall in its territorial waters if it were its own country). With all of that resource wealth, they can't afford to repair the wetlands, fix their school system, or build adequate levy systems. I've heard it described that Louisiana is treated more as a colonial holding to exploit, rather than a U.S. state, with the proceeds from production going to companies outside of Louisiana.

How does blocking up the Mississippi contribute to only 1/4 inch of land loss every year? It is the only supplier of sediment for the wetlands!!! The units are not even right, she is comparing length with area? Maybe it is popular to blame oil and gas companies but the real issue is the sediment being transported from the Mississippi, which she quickly dismisses. Poor reporting by someone without a fundamental knowledge of engineering. The industry to blame is shipping on the MI!

I think the science behind this video is a little weak. Subsidence of deltas is due to loss of sediment supply from the Mississippi, removal of ground water, oil and gas, salt water intrusion, the weight of human development, dredging, and climate change (causing isostatic sea level rise). Its a combination of factors, not solely on the creation of channels through wetlands that allows salt water intrusion. The delta was screwed as soon as they channelized the Mississippi River, the oil and gas industry accelerates the process.

It may be a football field but that’s stretched out over hundreds of miles of coastline. So inches if you’re in one spot, but when you factor in years of time that can still equal a lot of land loss.
@SoulSteeler225 жыл бұрын
Oh I have no doubt that the oil companies are destroying the wetlands for sure but I'm just saying if it was a 100 yards and hour for how many years now they would all be gone by now. That's all I'm saying. I do agree with the disappearing. Just not the rate at which they claim is all. There would be nothing left by now.
@matthewhenington81395 жыл бұрын
SoulSteeler22 checked into the number for you you. It’s actually 100 yards every 100 minutes. That’s according to The Oganization to Restore the Mississippi River Delta. Now that’s at the delta, so the rate varies depending on where you are and so that statistic can be subjective but treated as fact all along the coastline. However, the rate doesn’t vary that much and has held true for the past 15 years. It may not be noticeable in the sense of “there was a beach here and now it’s back further” it’s more along the lines of ok these marshes used to have land and now they are “mostly” flooded year around, or there were barrier islands here and now there are not. We lose tons of land every year and have been for quite some time. That’s all along the gulf coast (minus Texas which sits on a ridge of solid rock on the other side of the Sabine River above the eastern side of the Chenier Plain) not just Louisiana so most of the time that is factored in as a whole. But that’s still a lot and at the rate it is going, it’s around 25 square miles a year. That number is substantiated by organizations like the AAG, USGS, NOAA etc.

Looks like it would’ve lost more but I’m guessing from some of the pics from 2015 they actually tried rebuilding the beach but it then eroded within two years back down 60-70 feet. It may be a slow amount of loss but 160 feet in 20 years is pretty bad, especially since that seems to be increasing in rate.

What if oil is holding the earths core in place and by removing the oil you are causing some type of in balance in the center of the planet causing earthquakes and other extreme weather conditions to occur based on the weight being removed since we all burn it the weight turns to -0 would this cause our earth to spin faster and days to be shorter?

GiantGenesse Do you think there could be any negative effects by removing so much weight from the earth?
@prgx529 жыл бұрын
+Tinder inc it is still weight on earth, the mass doesnt just go away

Pat Green But we burn the oil... so yes the mass is removed think about how many barrels of oil we use everyday and how much weight that must be. I am no tree huger this just has me wondering if removing so much from the earth could cause other issues.
