Best song off the Nirvana cover labum, in my opinion, was the Arcane Roots cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit. They did the best thing you can do with a song that's so mega-popular and overplayed - pretty much completely changed it whilst still keeping it essentially SLTS-y. What a cover.

Perhaps for you, but personally, every band's real tributes are when they either do it almost like the original or totally their own way. The first option isn't even possible, so tributes are to show their love by playing it in their own style. Metallica transforms the covers too and they sound like Metallica songs : D So What, Stone Cold Crazy, Killing Time, Helpless, Astronomy... That's what bands do. It would have been a disrespect, if the band's intention was to mock Nirvana.

@@DethronerX not every band, if you see for ex: limp bizkit "behind blues eyes" version of "the who" with half of the lyrics eated and a will to make a commercial song $$$.. Limp bizkit is a good band, but not in that case in my opinion. Garage days is a masterpiece, and some songs are equal or better than the originals

@@spironikitaielivitch2846 well as far as better, its a matter of taste for which music style you like, I like both original and covers in Garage Days, Spaghetti Incident (GNR), Undisputed Attitude (Slayer) and then there is Frayed Ends of Sanity covered by Six Feet Under that I really prefer to Opeth's cover of it, but that's our personal preference, but from a bands point of you, I agree with you that if you're trying to make money, then its a cheap attempt and its mostly going to suck musically. And you know the story of Audioslave covering Sad But True and the crowd only enjoying that, instead of their originals lol There is Deicide covering Deep Purple's Black night, and as much as I loved it, Deep Purple fans would get really pissed. I love Deep Purple and the reason I enjoyed that insane cover, even with changed lyrics, is because, its a death metal cover and Im sure Deicide love Deep Purple. They even once did Death Metal versions of pop songs, but im not sure if that was love or rage, but im sure they loved playing them : D Even Sepultura changed a bit of lyrics for Symptom of the Universe, but it was a good cover. Its like you say, is it done for passion or money or mockery, but at the end of the day, how well did they do it as an individual song, but even though sometimes its hard to ignore, but comparing with original starts to feel wrong to me. Dave Lombardo played two songs with Metallica on Download Festival and when I heard Batter, I was like, fuck, Fire Lars and Hire Dave!!
