I felt so bad for Yezekial. He was sweet and he told his friend that she really opened up to him. No holds barred. Then she goes on a 3rd date with him and holds back. I could tell by her face as he was telling her all that he felt for her, that it was going to be "no"! She told him she likes to take things slow, but she looks at him with no feeling at all, not friendliness, no warmth at all. Merav the Law student should meet up with Yezekial...He's employed as a scribe.
@ladilu7776 жыл бұрын
It was interesting to read your viewpoint about Yezekial and Bloom's dates. I saw all bit different way. Alhtough Yezekial was honest and wanted really to meet his soulmate, but he always was wondering about himself. How HE feels, what HE think about her future bride. On the 3.-th date he knew she is the one, but he did not realised, what the girls thought. I did not see frigidity or unfriendliness on her face, but uncertanty. she was'nt yet there, where the boy was. This short time was not enough for her to get him know well, and to have feeling toward him. She was all at see, but he did not see this. Because he just saw that his dream will come true soon. (Well, it did not happened so).
@hipretty6 жыл бұрын
You are right it is certainly not time enough for anyone to know each other. But from what I have gathered, in this community that is not unusual. But although Yezekial's friend was advising him (with his wife at the table) that he will know the person later....and love her more later, he seemed ready and the girl seemed very young and NOT ready. On the other hand Esti is also very young just 18, but is ready to love a family, and wants to marry! After four (or was it 5) "dates" her mother (worried sick about the reputation of her daughter) was getting sick over it. Of course this situation is not for everyone. Bu it was very interesting to watch, and get a view into this community. They struck me as very gentle and decent people, and I find it repulsive seeing so many hateful comments.

The reasons for 2 different food storage, prep and cleaning areas in a kitchen. The different types of Jews, which interestingly, several of the different ones in this video weren’t mentioned. How often do today’s kids actually sit and talk, and discuss their interests, beliefs etc.,instead of movie dates, heading to the beach, and more often than not, end up in bed within the first date or so. There are some lessons to be learned from these young Jewish kids.

This was an extremely enlightening documentary. I have several Jewish friends (mostly in the US) from either Modern Orthodox or Reform backgrounds - but this gave me a real insight into ultra-Orthodox communities and their way of life. Put it this way - the life of a very religious Jewish woman would not be for me! But, for these young people, it's normal and commonplace and, most likely, all they've ever known. What struck me was how...formal some of their dates were. Almost like a job interview. And you could really sense the pressure these young people feel (both the men and women) to find a perfect match, get married, and have a family. My heart went out to them (especially Merav - made me grateful to grow up in a society where divorced women aren't considered damaged goods. Well, not always...). I don't think, however, that kind of pressure is restricted to Orthodox Judaism. I attended a Pentecostal church for several years - and that community was OBSESSED with marriage and babies. Our pastors were constantly playing matchmaker, trying to pair up all the young, attractive singletons (never mind that there are verses in the Bible which state it's beneficial for one's faith to remain single). It was not at all uncommon for couples in our church to marry young - and if you were still single after a certain age, the anxiety would begin to creep in. In our community, 25 was practically over the hill! Plus, the methods of dating shown here aren't radically different to what I observed in the church. Sure, Christians might be less...business-like in their approach, but there was a laundry list of rules for dating. Young men would consult with their pastors and elders before asking a woman for coffee. Once you were dating, boundaries were pretty strict - plenty of couples wouldn't kiss until they were standing at the altar. Couples would have an "accountability buddy" who would check in with them and ensure they were keeping things PG-13. They'd be encouraged to be guiding by faith, not emotions or "butterflies". And yeah - it was certainly not unheard of for couples to get engaged in pretty short order (admittedly, though, within a few months, as opposed to a few dates). So, watching this was interesting, but not necessarily shocking. I've since left the church - I didn't fit in with that world. But I respect my Christian friends and how they choose to live and love, as they do for me. I respect how the young Israelis in this doco choose to live and love. I do hope they all find happiness and fulfillment, with or without a wedding.
@Monica-vv1zt5 жыл бұрын
It's sad how much pressure is put on these young people. I agree how much the dates are like job interviews. It's sad how their natural feelings and urges are suppressed and they don't have much time to decide whether or not a person is the right match. In the western dating world it takes most people around a year or more to know if there's a future. It takes time to get to know someone and sometimes you don't see a person's true colours until much later. They could get married and the partner may turn out to be abusive or that their personalities clash too much. Whilst I like how in the orthodox world, dating isn't all about sex, it doesn't feel natural. It's like they all get married out of duty. It's sad that there isn't that lust there and real space for getting to know each other. How can the couple really get to know each other is the guy is studying all day. The couple would be separated for 2 weeks each month because of the menstruation laws that dictate a husband and wife to do not touch. Also the couple are expected to have kids pretty quickly and when the kids come along you don't have time for each other. Although Christian dating lasts over a much longer period, up to years, it's still so unnatural that a couple must suppress their urges and wait until marriage to have sexual intercourse and relations. Intimacy is such a huge part of a relationship and if there isn't that sexual chemistry there, a relationship can deteriorate. Yes friendship and partnership is absolutely important in a relationship, but there needs to be that something more, that spiritual, sexual and romantic connection.
@NarnianLady5 жыл бұрын
Wow. My general experiences in churches have been the opposite - including Pentecostal / similar.. in the West, that is. Marriage was almost something you weren't allowed even hope and pray for...! It was seen almost like 'what is wrong with you, God is enough, just be content'.. so I am glad that at least some churches have the opposite approac. Not sure if playing the matchmaker is always the best option either, people need to have freedom and enough space to breath, in order to make their decisions without undue pressure and manipulation from others. Well-meaning friends and their efforts can do lots of harm as well, unless they are discreet and respectful about it.. In my neck of woods, no one bothers to introduce anyone, it is considered that 'if God wants, it will happen..', which I am not sure is always true either (God wants us to be His hands and His feet on this earth)... Blessings your way!

I saw her for three days and then she went back to school. We started writing letters daily. In the middle of April I was on leave and I took her to my Uncle's wedding. She took a Greyhound from Philadelphia to New York too be there. On April 15 I asked to marry me and she said yes. Then she told me I was invited by her parents to visit them in Southern New Jersey. They knew something was up because I was the only guy she'd ever invited to meet them. It was all arranged before I had asked her to marry me. We had not seen each other since New Years Eve. She planned for us to marry when she graduated in September. It was to be September 9, 1972. We wrote letters from April to September. Her parents were not too happy over this. I was a stranger and in the Navy and after we married she'd go with me to my duty station. I was 21 and she was 22. On Tuesday well be married 48 years. We saw each other in person less than 30 days before we married. It's been a solid marriage with a son who is a pleasure to have with a good wife and terrific Grandchildren. I've seen a lot o people especially in New York who were engaged 5 or more years with the marriage lasting less time than the engagement. "Is she pretty?" I hear this question often when prospective brides are concerned. What is pretty? What is not? It's usually the first question asked by the man and his supporters. @jessicaharris16086 жыл бұрын
To be fair, men are visual so it's important that a man be attracted to his bride. I imagine to many men attractiveness varies and what he really wants is someone who he can have physical chemistry with. I imagine that many men don't need a drop dead gorgeous woman but they want someone that they can find attractive physically at least somewhat. I met my husband online and he had two photos on his profile. One was clean shaven and the other he had a goatee. I do NOT like the clean shaven look on ANY man. I find that a bit of facial hair improves the look of 99% of male faces. Upon seeing his face with facial hair I said to myself, "I can work with that!" He emailed me first and wrote very respectfully like a potential friend. Another man from the same town emailed me first and was also very courteous and respectful but his profile picture was an absolute turn off and I knew there was zero physical attraction to his face. My husband is not some gorgeous celebrity but I had a spark of attraction to him physically that only blossomed further once I knew his beautiful soul. What one person finds attractive can be repugnant to another person so what those men are asking essentially is if there is a potential for physical attraction. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so only photos or in person can truly answer the attractiveness question.

They devote their lives to living as per God's laws to the Jewish people, they comply with the 613 laws of the torah, they have alot of children, and they make a living. Like everyone else some are rich, most are not, but their lives are not money and achievement centered. Their lives are to live and pass on their observance of God's laws to the next generation. To be a torah scholar for them is to be a brilliant attorney - it is about law. And they don't earn money studying the law and being lawyers of judges (rabbis) but they have honor in their community and their wives earn money. When they go to schul to study the law, it is rigorous and intense. It is work John. They just don't get paid for it because they work for free honoring God. Their wives are only too happy to work to help the family to afford their husbands that place to study God's law. Now this isn't your culture or mine but it is theirs and you shouldn't be so disrespectful. And by the way alot of problems we have in America are attributable to the low birthrate. We wouldn't have to import chinese and spanish people if we had enough kids. It seems that white protestant men in America and Europe do not want Children or if they have, they'll have one and this is cultural suicide and that's why they're bringing in arabs and muslims who are the pits. I read all his Whatsapp, Facebook,Skype,Instagram and Snapchat messages Including the deleted text and recent messages. You can contact this great Hacker Gavin via Gmail (cyberhackinggenius) or text and speak to him directly on his phone and WhatsApp : +19256795146 and don’t forget to thank me later.

4:18 - 4:19 "I'm awake since 3:00 a.m." ---- I think that devastating feeling is shared by all cultural, ethnic, racial, and religious communities. I know what that poor girl must have been feeling. I have felt it also, but for different reasons. Recently someone I know said that he is so nervous at his job that he often wakes up at 2:00 a.m. feeling panicky and nauseous. If only someone could find a cure for anxiety. It's one of the most common but least understood banes of human existence.

At 38.01 the two male friends have a true emotional attachment to one another! It's too bad that these two guys cannot find the same emotional love/attachment with with women who they want to marry. These so-called dates that Jews have with one another are so sanitized, so sterile and they wonder why they can't find a true mate to call their own!

Man they really need to make these dates last longer. What can you learn about a person in five mins? If they are worried of something inappropriate happening then they can have an elder accompany them from a distance. I think it would help a lot in these type of situations.

I feel so bad for these young people. They go on a few dates with a total stranger and then are expected to marry one of them. What about someone they’ve grown up with? Someone they’ve known so at least there is some compatibility. As for the one person choosing a guy 10 years older seemed like a bad idea. I guess this episode will reveal what happens.

Interesting that you find them deprived, but I see it as a blessing. As a mother of four daughters, this is a simple way to keep the relationship pure, and it seems there is far fewer divorce. But most importantly, they live for God and His will on their lives seems to be the most important. I was so moved by the love stories, and so sad for those who haven't yet met their soul mate.

Because they are being brainwashed to believe that "love comes after marriage", and not the other way around. But if one of them is sterile and they cannot have kids, then they will just divorce, because they marry to have as many children as possible, not in order to live together out of love.

The divorce rate in the ultra-orthodox communities is far lower than the divorce rate in the general population. The marriage then love model works just as well if not better than the reverse.
