First of all, great video. You hit the nail right on it's head. Secondly, here's a little fact that some anime only's might not know: the fight between Eiji and Vassago was an anime original scène. Kawahara Reki had originally written SAO as a web novel that he wrote from 2002 up untill 2008. Of course he released the light novel in 2009 with several changes (with one of those being related to Sachi and Kirito's relationship). After season 2, Reki was asked to write a anime original plot to keep the hype for the SAO anime up. This movie eventually became Ordinal Scale, a movie that would introduce 3 new anime original characters; Yuna, Eiji and Yuna's dad whose name I can't remember right now. Funnily enough, Eiji was originally not even supposed to be in Ordinal Scale and instead Suguha was supposed to play a bigger role. Ultimately it was decided to add Eiji, with Reki once jokingly saying the reason for this was that Suguha would be too overpowered due to her physical strenght and thus there wouldn't be much of a story. Anyway, in the web novel and in the light novel there was more emphasize on Vassago's backstory; he actually worked for a hitman crew based in America and was asked to go into SAO to kill one of the players stuck inside of the game. That crew stole him a nervegear and made a hospital room ready for him after he accepted the job. There was also more about his family but that would take too long to write. I feel like the scène with Vassago is ultimately up to personal preference. If you wanted more backstory for Vassago then the light novel is your go to option. If you want more action then the anime got you covered.

It's comparatively minor, but the syndicate Vassago worked for was korean; they just happened to operate in Japan. I suppose the one thing that does do is give more breadth to Vassago's hatred for Southeast Asians. And having that part of his backstory really would have helped cement his depth as a character and villain, which the anime hasn't exactly been the best at. There still would have been some action in that spot. In the LN, Klein tried to get up again, and was impaled again. He still made enough of a nuisance that PoH ordered him executed, and that's when Moonphase stepped in to try to stop it and reason with his fellow Koreans. PoH was then going to execute Moonphase himself, and that's when Asuna charged in to stop him. Honestly, since they then went and showed the Laughing Coffin symbol, I'd just as soon they had left out not only Eiji and YUNA, but the Moonphase subplot, and Shiune trying to communicate with him, since everyone was speaking Japanese in the anime anyway. They could have used that half an episode for PoH's backstory, and to show some of Asuna's cut content. I know Ordinal Scale itself, and the 2 associated side stories, are canon, but the War of Underworld stuff isn't, and Reki himself struggled to try to explain how it even could have been possible in-universe. And Eiji gains some closure and redemption in the "Cordial Chord" side story as it is. Really, the anime crew doesn't need to try nearly so hard to make things look cool.

@@Villoresi ah right, they were Korean. It's been a while since I read the entirety of the novels so I couldn't exactly remember the details. Thanks for correcting me. And yeah, the anime never really focused on the backstories if the characters, espacially the villains. Yeah, I know there still would be action. But the anime censored a bunch of stuff, like Asuna getting impaled by a spear during the fight at the ruins which they didn't show, so I'm not surprised they didn't include Klein getting impaled. Combine this with the anime's history of prefering flashy battle scènes instead of emontional scènes and the fact that Eiji and Yuna were quite popular and It's no wonder they included a longer action scène with the two of them in the anime even thoughnit came at the cost of the story being screwed over.. I should've said this already but I do agree that Eiji and Yuna could've been left out and that the light novels did a better job. I just feel like some people may prefer the hardcore action from the anime considering the complaints by some animevonly's about there not being enough action. I think cutting out those bits you mentioned could've definitely helped the anime, espacially the Moonphase bit. Even without Moonphase Asuna jumping in to save Klein would've been in character as she would simply try to save a friend she has known since Aincrad so I agree with what you said there. And the Siune scène is just confusing to anime only's. Yeah, the anime definitely made things though for Reki with the WoU scènes. Like you said Eiji's story was finished after Chordial Chords. He got the closure he deserved. But the anime always focuses on flashy battles to please the general audience.

I'm watching it now as someone who has very mixed feelings towards most of the series Its really interesting, good, and worth the journey. The next arc is still ongoing but sounds really hype and I'm excited for it to get adapted one day

The dub pronounces Quienella as Quwe-nella. That's the pronunciation of Quinella I'm use to. Good Video

I'll admit I like Klein here though not enough to want as a main character. I did think one time what if Tsuboi was hired by Kikuoka after Kazauto turned him down when reading Phantom Bullet though I don't know how to answer that. As for Alicization I'm sorry but it just has to be Kazuto. I don't see Klein being able to make others to break laws as much Raios and Humbert. Though commiting taboos could of been done a different way. Yanai I despise him. That eyeing popping trigger was rather brutal

Very good analysis, I should also mention that Rinko also sees Fluctlights as people and Rath as a pillar of love because the Underworld is part of hers and Kayaba's dream. 🥺 Fun fact that is a *SPOILER* Kayaba also ended up believing the same as he accepted both worlds at the end as he joined Kirito's side at the end of the IIW war arc and got an AI body similar to Alice's. I dunno what will happen in the final arc since this is just spoilers from Accel World 25 but i do not want Rath and the Underworld to be shut down as the Underworld's and Rath's true purpose is love.

I do have a question if you read the novels before making this or not?

I like this video, but I would have liked it a little better if you just focused on alicization and wut focused on war of underworld. Because while I do think that going over love was a good thing, I feel like you should have gone over Kirito vs chudelkin. I feel like you over looked that a little bit, and some stuff about Kirito going potato mode. But again good video I just wish it was maybe dedicated to a single arc, because this did feel a little rushed. (Edit) Notice: a KZbinr with 26 thousand subscribers, and its only been like 9 hours since this video was published. And 700 views. This shows how controversial SAO is. And when you crap on it, it gets more views than when you defend it. “Everyone is a critic.” This couldn’t be more true for the Anime community.
