Here in Germany, it looks very bad in the music schools with guitar newcomers and basically with rock newcomers. The more enthusiastic I am since 2020 when I discovered the Japanese women rock and heavy metal scene. Thousands of young Japanese musicians between 20 and 35 years (according to my impression more women than men) are in rock, hard rock, heavy metal, jazz, funk, fusion, etc. at an absolutely such a high level as I have not experienced here in Europe for a long time. Lovebites has been around since 2016, and the women became more famous worldwide after performing at several major festivals, mainly in Europe, starting in 2018. 2018 - Wacken - Open Air in Germany 2018 - Bloodstock Open Air in England 2019 - Graspop Metal Meeting Festival in Belgium 2019 - Download Festival in Spain In 2020, their career was abruptly interrupted by Corona. But they masterfully overcame the crisis, got married and had babies. In 2021 the founder Miho left the band for personal reasons and it went into a hiatus which lasted until the end of 2022. In the fall of 2022 they found a young fantastic bass player and in 2023 they released a new LP. The new LP reached the 5th place in the Japanese charts. Japan is the 2nd largest music market in the world and it is very rare that in these times a rock band comes so far forward. I've been a big LOVEbites fan for 3 years and fans never get enough of it so : S u g g e s t i o n s for next reaction V i d e o 's: (Copy the following sentence lines and enter them into the KZbin search bar, you will find the videos) 🤘🤘 New Songs from the new LOVEBITES - LP Judgement Day : LOVEBITES music video - Judgement Day 2022 LOVEBITES music video - Stand and Deliver 2023 🤘🤘 Songs ALL LIVE !!! Thanks for the reaction! Since 2017, LOVEBITES have recorded about 60 original songs and musical compositions. You might find it hard to believe, but they don't have bad songs. LOVEBITES is a heavy metal band from Japan. They play thrash, power, speed, progressive metal, classical music. Some songs have elements of hard rock, neoclassical, symphonic metal. These ladies are phenomenally talented. P.S. In 2018 LOVEBITES won the 2018 Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award for Best New Band. (London, UK) In April 2020 Metal Hammer listed the third Studio Album "Electric Pentagram" as one of the 20 Best Metal Albums of 2020.

BTW, Miyako, the black haired guitarist playing the Les Paul is also a classically trained concert pianist, Were you to be in Japan on November 19th. you would be able to check out her classical piano recitals at the Tokyo FM Hall. Here is a link to her playing her classically influenced interpretation of Helloween's "Eagle Fly Free". Miyako, at thirty-three, has played the piano for 30 years and the guitar for around 15 years.

The band is named after the song Love Bites, (and so do I) from the Band Halestorm. The biggest influence of Lovebites are bands like Iron Maiden, Helloween and Judas Priest. But also bands as Metallica, Slayer and Pantera. Midori( ESP artist.Blond guitarist) studied guitar at the musical insitute of Osaka. Miyako(Dark hair) plays here a Gibson Les Paul, is a Dean guitar artist and keyboardist. She is classically trained on piano since age 3, she is a virtuoso on the grand piano, and self-taught on guitar. She is the main composer and arranger of the band

At the time of this video all the band members were approximately 29-30 years old, the drummer is a bit younger (maybe 26 at the time, not sure). Midori started playing guitar at age 20 and Miyako at age 18. So they had developed this talent in about 10-12 years.

Congratulations, you just found the best new metal band to come along in decades. In their first five years of existence, they put themselves on par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. Other reviewers have described them as alien superheroes disguised as young women, angels, princesses of metal, and angry bridesmaids. They recently went on a year-and-a half hiatus while they searched for a new bassist. They announced the new bassist in October 2022 (see below) and dropped their first new song on December 22. Their new album, “Judgement Day”, was released two months later. Some background: They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and founder of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the great European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other groups. The four of them then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she was also trained in ballet). Miyako has composed a little more than half of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics and is also getting involved in composing. In mid-2021, Miho left the band she had founded, for personal reasons. They went on hiatus while they searched for a new bassist, and during that time, two of them had babies, even as the band were writing and rehearsing their new album. They recently announced the new bassist, Fami, who is a young phenom and herself a composer and multi-instrumentalist. Their first song with Fami is “Judgement Day” kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2TYeJ2mYrVqeqs The instrumentalists studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance was that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining. They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like crazy). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It doesn’t hurt that either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. As another reviewer said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band." Here are more clips you should check out: “Set the World on Fire” kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2rdpHtsnqySbMU from their 2021 concert DVD “Heavy Metal Never Dies”. “Don’t Bite the Dust” kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXnRfHp7n5Z2g8U, from the same concert; "Edge of the World" and "We the United", back to back: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZ2TXohjrtB9ebc They form an incredible journey from darkness and despair to light and hope. Also, “Empty Daydream”, which starts as a ballad and becomes a real rocker: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oonLkKiDgp5noLc; Perhaps their greatest masterpiece, a showcase of multi-instrumental virtuosity and even classical dance “A Frozen Serenade” kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5aboYSMqpKFhJo; And their most reacted-to video, “Holy War”: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJikqaN7paqWpNE Miyako is also a virtuoso concert pianist, and was headed for a career in classical music, before picking up the guitar. If you want to see what she can do on the piano, watch “Swan Song” WITH the prelude, which is Chopin’s “Revolutionary Etude” (official name Étude Opus 10, No. 12 in C minor). Miyako wrote “Swan Song” using elements from several classical pieces including the Etude. This link should work: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXPLpaSdnr14d5Y. For a heart-stopping ballad, “Epilogue” kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6rRn4t6m6qhpLs (this includes a second song, your choice whether or not to react to both) While you will sometimes hear you should only react to live clips, actually their MV’s are epic and worth seeing. Here are four of the most spectacular: "Shadowmaker" kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKPQoJ-kaqyrq9U This is the song that blew up and melted faces all over the world "When Destinies Align" kzbin.info/www/bejne/nn2plp9_bpiJoa8 "Glory to the World" kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6itpXdojaqLfpY "Winds of Transylvania" kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqSoZYiYlLWdnpo. Finally, the audio tracks of some of the new album are up on youtube, and worth checking out. The band clearly came out swinging and wanted to make a statement. Every song on the album is a showcase of their incredible talent and songwriting capabilities. “Stand and Deliver” is a thrasher with a fun video of them in the studio. “Soldier Stands Solitarily”, the final song on the album, is being touted by some as the best thing they’ve done so far-I encourage you to see and decide for yourself! You'll get lots of suggestions, just one thing: don't bother with Bloodstock footage, the sound quality is poor. Best to take suggestions with actual links. Also, you can’t go wrong with any of their official clips. Welcome to the Wolf-Pack!

Best thing to happen to Metal in decades. Formed 2016 and part of the awesome J/Metal scene dominated by female bands. You have to be wick good to survive in the Japanese music scene these days. Midori (Blond Flash Queen) dropped out of dental school at 20 and went to a prestigious music academy for guitar. Miyako (Dark hair Melodic Queen) is a classical pianist who picked up the guitar at 18 and self taught. Polar opposites who harmonize LIVE like a Vulcan mind meld. Petite women who wear their femininity proudly while writing arranging and performing their songs in high heels and gowns while playing wicked especially LIVE. Asami 4' 10" vocalist is from a R&B/Jazz/Soul background with a ballet training heritage. The drummer, Haruna maybe only 4' 9" but she pounds that kit like this for a full 2 hour set. Miho/ bassist and founder of the band left recently and has been replaced with a 20 y o. sensation, Fami. Pick anything LIVE from this group and you will never be disappointed.

Any Lovebites song is worth listening to and virtually all are originals. By the way, the dark haired guitarist Miyako, who I see people have already mentioned plays piano as well, has a forthcoming EP of piano covers and has already dropped a MV of a cover of Helloween's 'Eagle Fly Free' on Lovebites official channel. A bit different than the original, which the band as a whole have covered, as she's composed a variation with a classical flavour.

They're between 30 and 35 now mostly (they have a new, young bassist now who just turned 21, a bass wunderkind, but she's not playing in this clip). They play in an 80s style (they mainly play power metal and classic metal à la Maiden, with some thrash and ballads thrown in) because a) Japan took a somewhat different route in metal than the West: nu metal was not very popular in Japan, they have always tended towards the melodic side of things rather than the "brootal" and b) because the two founders of the group (the old bassist, Miho, seen here, and the drummer) are into Maiden and Priest. That said, they have been gradually changing their style to a brand of fast, heavy power metal that is more modern (think Dragonforce, but done with taste and melodic sensibility). As a guitar instructor, you'd certainly appreciate their over-one-minute virtuoso solo duels. Maybe react to another song? Here is one with a great solo break: Shadowmaker kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZ6kfIWffJ1sh8U Or another one with their new bassist, Fami: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2TYeJ2mYrVqeqs

Lead singer , Asami, has been on stage with Halestorm at Download 2019 performing Love Bites (So Do I), the song the band is named after. Miyako and Midori (blonde pony tail) on guitar. Miho on bass here, and Haruna on drums. Miho left in 2021, replaced by Fami last October. One of their thrashier songs. They have others that lean towards power metal, and some ballads. To see their power metal side, try Holy War from this same show. That piano on stage is not just for show. Miyako is a classically trained pianist. She does a Chopin intro on Swan Song. I think they are now in their early 30s. New bassist Fami is about 10 years younger.

I suggest Shadowmaker or Soldier Stands Solitary. Miyako and Midori the twin lead guitar players for Lovebites are in a class all their own right now. I grew up with Metallica and the whole 80's metal scene like many fans of Lovebites. The two often swap solos but when they play together and harmonize, there is a special chemistry. For my taste, I really can't name a better pair of leads when they play together. Tipton and Downey from Priest maybe. (Spoiler there is a Lovebites Painkiller cover). Camelot or Halloween among others but mostly obscure or niche bands that did this style well.

Just found your channel and you have very good commentary and observations. Subbed and liked. You are right. These girls are highly skilled musicians. Not only that, they write most of their songs. KZbin has been a huge boon to music, especially those from Japan. It has also introduced a new generation to the likes of Rainbow (Blackmore, Dio), Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Kansas and others. "We are Lovebites and we play heavy metal. We did not come her to be cute. We came here to be heavy." Formed in 2016. Miyako, known as the Golden Touch, is a big fan of Ritchie Blackmore and many other guitarists. She is also the queen of the wah pedal. She is definitely the more melodic player. The second solo is by Miyako reminds me of Gary Moore. (Guitars, Keyboards, backing & gang vocals, music composition) Bass player Miho uses much of Steve Harris style and is heavily inspired by Iron Maiden. She is the founder but resigned from the band in 2021. (Bass, music and lyrics) New bass player is Fami who has her own channel on KZbin with more subscribers than Lovebites has on theirs. (Bass, backing & gang vocals, can write music and lyrics) The other guitarist is Midori. She is known as Crazy Shredder. She is the queen of dissonance. (Guitars, can play piano) Haruna is the drummer and she is only 4'9" yet she is called "The Little Big Engine" because of her combination of speed, power, accuracy and energetic playing. I love her ice bell. She also has star cymbals that spin (no sound though). (Drums, nuclear engine, music and lyrics) Asami was a trained R&B singer who also took ballet lessons. Aretha Franklin and Alecia Keys were her favorites and inspirations growing up. (Lead vocals, piano, lyrics) Most of the band are late 20's early 30's. Fami is 'The Kid' at 20. Fami is her nickname which she was given by her family as a kid growing up because she like Japanese convenience store Family Mart.

Nice getting your take, being a experienced guitar player/teacher. There are actually 3 songs I know with Love Bites titles - Def Leppard, Judas Priest, and Halestorm - Love Bites (And So Do I) which is where Lovebites took their band name from. Lovebites are known for the duo guitar solos of M&M (Madori doing the shredding here and Miyako with the slower solo). They do a variety of guitar solos in their songs, mainly switching between Midori and Miyako and then doing a combined solo, which they do better than any band I've ever seen. Plenty of great Lovebites songs to check out. If you want to watch a video of the band members discussing their equipment check out the video LOVEBITES - Daughters Of The Dawn (Gear Introduction)[English subtitles] The interviewer is Asami, their vocalist.

Thank you for reacting to LOVEBITES. LOVEBITES has about 60 songs. Please keep up the good work LOVEBITES. LOVEBITES was formed in 2016 by Miho(Ba) and Haruna(Dr), members of the band "DESTROSE", which went on hiatus in 2015. On 18 June 2018, LOVEBITES won 'BEST NEW BAND' at the Metal Hummer Golden Gods 2018 awards organised by the British metal magazine METAL HUMMER. On 4 August, LOVEBITES performed on the W.E.T stage at WACKEN OPEN AIR 2018, one of the world's largest annual metal festivals in Germany, with the 10,000 capacity venue almost full. "Bloodstack open air 2018(Aug. 10)" also participated. On August 20,2018, LOVEBITES announced that it has partnered with X-ray Touring, one of the largest players in the UK booking agent industry. LOVEBITES toured the Netherlands, Germany, France and UK from November 13-21, 2018. Asami (Vo) of LOVEBITES appeared as a guest on stage at Halestorm "Download Japan 2019(March 21)", singing alongside "Lzzy" Hale on Halestorm's 'Love Bites', which gave the band their name. I participated in "dowload Festival 2019(June 15)". And Asami of LOVEBITES appeared as a guest on stage at Halestorm Download Festival UK 2019, singing alongside "Lzzy" Hale on Halestorm's "Love Bites" again after Japan. LOVEBITES join DragonForce on UK tour 2019(Nov. 2-14). On 2 December 2019, LOVEBITES was the support act for the Tokyo leg of Halestorm's Japan tour. P.S. To be continued, fill in next time.

Amazing musicians, every one of them. It's a crime how much talent sits in one single band, a HUGE benefit to the Wolfpack. This is a rabbit hole you just go into with Lovebites. Every song has something different. I will only suggest one song to react to and let everyone else fill up your list. "Judgement Day" is my favorite song by my favorite band: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2TYeJ2mYrVqeqs . In 50+ years of listening to metal (thrash & speed my favorite sub genres), and as awesome as the solo section of "Break the Wall" is, JD for me has the best solo section I have ever heard. A big part of that is because of their new bassist Fami, and her amazing bass lines. Midori (blonde hair) and Miyako (black hair) for me are the best dual leads I have ever heard, yes, better than Maiden or Priest etc. Miyako is also a virtuoso at piano and a major composer of Lovebites songs. Great reaction by someone who knows what they are talking about. I played keyboards when I was young and was pretty good at it, but Berklee College of Music destroyed me as a player.

Great reaction. It’s nice when someone eminently qualified to comment reinforces what I, a non musician, know, which is that these ladies are something extra special. You will get a lot of suggestions, so it’s not really necessary for me to give you one. There are 60 odd songs from 5 years actual output, if you take out the enforced break they took when the founder member and bassist left in 2021. They’ve recently returned with a phenomenal prodigy on bass, after auditioning extensively and, it has to be said, generously. The newest album release “Judgement Day” makes what you just witnessed appear tame in comparison. The Les Paul guitarist only began playing at aged 18, by which time she had 15 years piano training under her belt and is a concert grade pianist. Ironically, her last Twitter message of the day ended with her reminding everyone to practice their guitar before going to bed. Lovebites is the best thing to happen to music in my 63 years on this rock. No kidding. They are elite level musicians who have no airs and graces and who genuinely appreciate their fan base…and regularly show it.

You get major props from me just because you didn't choose "Holy War" as your first reaction for Lovebites. LOL. Nothing wrong with Holy War. It's a great song. But EVERYONE and their mother always react to that song first. I am thinking because it is the most representative song of their style? Yes, Lovebites has a habit of naming things after old songs from other groups and that can throw people off because they think it's a cover. But it's not. Funny, you picked one of the few songs were both of the guitar players don't shred. Most people prefer the blond guitar player because it seems she can play a tiny bit faster but I like the tone on the black haired guitar players guitars better. And she is a total guitar nerd. I even saw a video where she is taking apart her guitar, altering it by putting capacitors in it and adding hardware to it herself. She apparently just liked the way the guitar looked but wanted to change the tone. Also, the black haired guitar player can play the hell out of that piano in the background. I always appreciate people who know what they are talking about reacting to things I like. loved your reaction and hope you do more Lovebites in the future. I prefer live but they have two songs off their new album just released a few months ago that are almost a higher level than their previous stuff. Judgment Day is one of the best videos and songs I have seen in a long time and Stand and Deliver, while a completely different style of song is pretty epic as well. I was looking for the vid were she alter her guitar but couldn't find it. but I found this cool rare one of her talking in English. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2mzlYGGrN52n7M&ab_channel=MIYAKOOFFICIALCHANNEL There is another one with her unboxing her new "Dean" from two years ago.

I think it is about even with Midori and Miyako as to which one fans like more. There are many who prefer Miyako because she plays more "soulful" solos. And now that she worked on her speed, Miyako is just as fast as Midori.

One of my favorite things about this version of this song is how clean it is. On their previous live DVD, it was a bit rough with the bends during the chorus sounding sour. In that one Miyako (the brunette guitarist) was playing a Dean Switchblade ML and wasn’t hitting those bends for whatever reason. On this version, she broke out a Les Paul and nailed every bend. Great version of a great song. “Love Bites” definitely wasn’t the best song off of the _Hysteria_ album! I like the title track myself, just has a cool, mellow vibe with a fun solo.

Lovebites 'mission' is to recreate the old-school Metal sound and energy of the NWOBHM. They Play Thrash, Power Metal, a little Prog. From your background, I would recommend Swan Song [+Chopin Intro] kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXPLpaSdnr14d5Y next to see how *Miyako* (blk hair guitar) can compose a Thrash song with a Chopin piano Intro - and then shred the Chopin on piano, and then the lead guitar solo.
@MissLoonasSpeech
@MissLoonasSpeech Жыл бұрын
I second your suggestion, but "Swan Song" is not a Thrash Metal song!
@Patrick_H.
@Patrick_H. Жыл бұрын
@@MissLoonasSpeech We'll just have to respectfully disagree here. Swan Song is played at 154bpm, which is technically 'thrash' speed. Slow 'thrash' speed , but thrash none-the-less. Most of their songs are played at thrash speed, but I believe they've gotten miss-labelled as a Power Metal band because of Asami's high range, which makes her sound like Dio or Dickenson.
@MissLoonasSpeech
@MissLoonasSpeech Жыл бұрын
@@Patrick_H. While Thrash Metal is usually fast-paced, it's not defined by speed alone, thus there is no specific amount of bpm turning a metal song automatically into a Thrash Metal song. Power Metal and Death Metal can be played as fast. "Swan Song", especially the riffing, doesn't sound aggressive enough to be considered Thrash Metal.

"Old School" Thrash Metal doesn't get better than this! The main riff of this song immeditately reminded me of Testament's "Over the Wall", also as regards the overall sound, the difference being that I think Lovebites' live production has a better sound than Testament's studio production, and while Lovebites have Midori and Miyako, Testament only have got one Alex Skolnick. For more Thrash Metal by Lovebites, I'd recommend the live versions of "Set the World on Fire" and "The Awakening/The Hammer of Wrath" and the studio version (there's no live version yet) of "Dissonance". Music-wise (not as regards the vocals!), the latter is IMO the first song by Lovebites to also enter Death (Metal)-territory, which makes it even more impressive that vocalist Asami co-wrote it.

Lovebites! Haha, be ready to have your channel flooded by Lovebites fans. The only problem with Break the Wall is it doesn't give Asami, the vocalist, much of an opportunity to show off. Funnily enough they did get their band name from a song but the song is "Love Bites (So Do I)" by Halestorm. Pretty much anything from the live shows from 2020 or 2021 you can't go wrong with. They don't really have bad songs. Holy War seems like a popular recommendation, 'Swansong with the Chopin intro' is also nice and allows Miyoko, the guitar player on the right, to show off her piano skills. They did a wicked live studio cover of Helloween's 'Eagle Fly Free' which gives every member of the band a moment to show off. The only one of them that's really young is their new bassist Fami who is 20, I believe, but she's not featured in this video.

Awesome reaction my friend. And to think Lovebites has improved since then, because this video was filmed about three years ago. Midori and Miyako are, IMO, one of the greatest guitar duos in heavy metal of all time. Lovebites has done a cover of Judas Priest's Painkiller and played it so well you can't tell it's them or Tipton and Downing playing the notes. I would recommend one of their newest songs, Judgement Day, with their new bass player as the next one. It is more technically fast than this one.

I think somehow my original comment didn't get saved so I'll just say: What a song to pick to get introduced to Lovebites! Best metal band in the world right now imho. You've got quite a ride ahead if you continue with them (I hope you do). Wait until you see them harmonize on something like Set the World on Fire kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2rdpHtsnqySbMU or countless other examples. I'm sure you saw the grand piano on stage. Wait until you see what Miyako does with that on Swan Song (with the Chopin intro) kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpSwh6eoq9V9ps0 Or even more, wait until you check out one of the "E" songs, and hear another side of them, with something like Edge of the World kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKOcanVqh9uUg8U It's impossible to list everything. They don't have a bad song (and quite a few masterpeices). Welcome to the Wolfpack!

Great post Eric, sometimes KZbin deletes comments for whatever reasons (it's still a mystery) I only ever deleted one comment and it was someone attacking someone I was interviewing which also involved racial slurs.... The only one reason I know for sure is if people post links directing away from KZbin, but they have deleted several comments for unknown reasons, this happens on many channels. Thanks for mentioning the "feeling" thing. I hear these guys complaining that technical shredding has no "feeling", and I just think they have a very narrow definition of the word that is strictly constrained to the "feeling" of blues-based playing. They completely fail to recognize that things like "thrilled" and "exhilarated" and "excited" are "feelings".
