The guitarist that looks bored is Miyako. I think her stoic nature comes from the fact she studied piano for 15 of the first 18 yrs of her life. I don't believe you have reacted to a song where she plays the keys.....yet. She's very, very good !! 😮 Try, "Chopin Intro + Swan Song, " live from Zepp Divercity, Tokyo 2020. 😏❤️🎙🎸🎹🥁😎🤘

That "bored" look is just Miyakos stage "character" if you can call it that, she always looks calm cool and collected. I think it stems from her classical piano training where they are trained to express their emotions through their playing rather than their faces.

"The Awakening" is the first part and intro when they weren't playing yet, and "The Hammer of Wrath" is the actual song. This track is one of their thrashier songs which is why you'll probably hear more early Metallica or Testament rather than Judas Priest or Maiden. Like you have mentioned, this studio stream ("Awake Again - Live from Abyss") was a way to say thank you to the fans during trying times because of COVID restrictions. All the tracks played here are from their first LP, "Awakening from Abyss". And yes ! Please continue with this stream and you're in for a treat.

The first part was the backing track with the "Awakening" they use that often as a show opener. Miho referred to "The Hammer of Wrath" as a thrash metal song with some Arabic elements. All of the band members sang backing chorus together. It is often their opening track of their live setlists, as it helps them to focus their senses. The first section where they were not playing was the intro to Hammer of Wrath called The Awakening. It is designed for encores or opening a concert. This song is fire no matter where they play it. I think you said you like to listen to each new song a few times to let it ''sink in''. If that is the case I highly recommend checking out the Tokyo live version of the Hammer of Wrath. It has some iconic live action moments that I will let you enjoy for yourself. Try Winds of Transylvania next if you need more Lovebites songs.

Thanks for the reaction. These were the first TWO tracks from the first LOVEBITES Album "Awakening from Abyss" (released October 25, 2017). "The Awakening" (2 min 04 sec) - music track that immediately goes into the song "The Hammer of Wrath" (4 min 41 sec). When "The Awakening" sounds, the ladies enter the studio. During the concerts under this track, they went on stage. This live concert from the studio took place on October 25, 2020 and was timed to coincide with the 3-year anniversary of the release of the Album "Awakening from the Abyss". Due to restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, LOVEBITES could not perform in concert halls. Therefore, the concert was in the studio and was broadcast to the fans of the band on the Internet. During the concert LOVEBITES performed all the songs from the album "Awakening from Abyss" (12 songs, in the same order as on the Album) + song "Eagle Fly Free" (HELLOWEEN cover). Concert was recorded and released on DVD under the title "Awake Again - Live from Abyss" (December 2020). *** In this video, Miho (bass, backing vocals) is the founder, leader, "brain" of LOVEBITES. Unfortunately, in 2021, for personal reasons, she left the band. *** If you check out more LOVEBITES songs (the catalog contains about 60 original songs & music tracks), you'll understand why IRON MAIDEN and JUDAS PRIEST are often cited as one of the bands that influenced LOVEBITES. LOVEBITES play different genres of metal. Thrash songs make up less than 20%.

Miyako (black haired guitarist playing the Dean V) is not bored. She is a classically trained concert pianist and classically trained musicians generally do not show or play up facial expressions for the audience while performing. They are like a drug...and I need more...truer words were never spoken about Lovebites. This was a live stream for fans when COVID had wiped out their world tour plans and they needed to get the Wolfpack a "fix" LOL. No LIVE energy but the ladies as you experienced just don't know how to give a bad performance. They also have no idea what a filler song is so pick anything especially LIVE and never be disappointed ( only exception is Woodstock 2018 where the audio engineering was lousy as they were switched to main stage with less than 20 minutes to get ready ). They are like a drug as you can't stay away from them and need to experience them often. BTW the bassists here is Miho the original founder of the band before she left for personal reasons. LB is her dream and it reflects her heart and soul for Metal music. Steve Harris is her idol and he would be very proud of her as is the entire Wolfpack.

@athlonen The James Hetfield custom shop model would probably be a problem because it might be too close to the Gibson design. ESP and LTD's other explorer shapes are different enough not to cause a problem and that includes the Hetfield Snake byte model....Dean made things worse when they initially defied the court order and refused to stop making the guitars. Gibson went back to court and Dean finally came to their senses...What I find funny is that even though Miyako is a Dean artist she will use a Gibson every now and then on stage.

@@guitarzen5999 She mainly uses it (modified as well; she ripped out the original pickups in it and replaced them with Fishmans) when she channels her inner Gary Moore. Break the Wall is a clear example of that. What sucks though is that the Flying V she has was to be her signature model for Dean. If that can't be made anymore (I'm assuming worldwide) then she lost her model. From what I remember, aren't all Deans made here in the US?

They closed this set with a cover of Helloween's 'Eagle Fly Free' (they don't often do covers), and incidentally, Miyako, the dark haired guitarist, is releasing an EP this month of piano pieces, including her take on that song. She wasn't always so poker faced; I sometimes wonder if she's got some sort of arrangement with Midori to accentuate the contrast. If you watch her performance of Spellbound in the Tokyo 2021 concert, or her work with her previous bands, A Drop of Joker or 21g, she can be very different.

Hi Brian, the intro is “Awakening”. Their second gig back from Hiatus in March is the first time I’m aware of that the band actually played the heavy second segment (after the word “Lovebites”). I missed it, being at the gig the night before….but hey, who’s complaining? I think you said “new bassist”? That’s Miho…old bassist. Imagine walking into a record store in Japan, seeing a promo for a new album by a metal band called Lovebites…picking it up out of curiosity and going home, putting it on and after the tease of “Awakening” - bam… “Hammer of Wrath”. I totally agree with you that the Iron Maiden similarities are overplayed by many, but they can sometimes sound REALLY Maidenesque when they are doing a gallop, which is quite often. Yes, because it’s a limited release, this DVD or BluRay changes hands for 10 times the retail price on Yahoo Auction..which is why it’s the only thing missing from my collection!

However, you are hearing their Thrash influences because you have been listening only to their Thrash (and best) songs; they have plenty of Power Metal songs. In fact, in an early band interview, they say that they wanted to play music like IRON MAIDEN. MIDORI (the “bored” one) however says her #1 guitar influence is DIMEBAG, and that’s why she plays the Dean. Funny that you say that you hear Bay Area thrash in this.. this song screams Anthrax, to the point where you can take the girls out, put in the classic lineup of Anthrax (Belladonna, Ian, Spitz, Benante, and Bello), and this could easily sound like it came off Among the Living in 1986. It’s because you hear those classic metal influences in a band of ladies who can easily outdo all of them that makes this band so special, plus they do it in heels.

Lots of comments so I'll keep mind short in responding to "what should you react to next". You've seen the thrash, power, and speed metal influences. I've been a metalhead since 1981. The first metal album I bought was Killers from Iron Maiden. 🤘🤘Would love to have this Lovebites DVD but way too expensive now, if you can find one. I just picked up their Daughters Of The Dawn, Five Of A Kind, and Heavy Metal Never Dies Blu-rays. Also got the new Judgement Day CD/DVD. Another great Japanese band you need to check out is Nemophila. Just picked up their new live Blu-ray also.

You've only reacted to their thrash songs so far - which I love because their thrash songs are my favourites. But most of their catalogue is closer to Power Metal (NWOBHM) than Thrash. That is, they sound like Iron Maiden more often than they sound like Slayer or Testament. After doing three of their thrash songs, you should have a look at something different. I recommend "A Frozen Serenade", which I personally think is a masterpiece - one of the top 100 metal songs ever written (highly subjective I understand). Anyway, here it is: Frozen Serenade - kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5aboYSMqpKFhJo&ab_channel=HarryVethkovMaffiosov

No need to apologise for citing influences. Actually, they are good friends with Dragonforce and toured with them. They openly acknowledge influences from Beethoven and Chopin to Purple, Sabbath, Maiden, Priest and Metallica. Their genius is in knowing how to make the most of those influences.

Mr YYCPG, as a 61 year old South African music lover, I am kinda neutral with regards to the US/UK vs the rest of the world polemic when it comes to rock and metal, but I can safely say that you are on the right track with my fav Japanese women, who are by the way in their late 20's, if not 30 or 31. The band was started by Haruna (drummer) and Miho (bassist). Asami the vocalist wat actually a ballerina and sang RnB and soul before being drafted into LOVEBITES. The also plays the piano. Midori Tatematsu (purple ESP) is a body builder aside form shredding and Miyako Watanabe (Dean Dimebag) is a classical trained pianist that also arranged and write most of the somgs that only picked up the guitar around ten years ago. To see how she incorporated the piano, please check Swan Song (with Chopin), Empty Daydream, Edge Of The World et al. Miho resigned two years ago and LOVEBITES went on the hiatus while holding auditions for a new bass player. Anyone, regardless of gender or nationality or age could audition, but at the end they settled for Fami since end of last year. All the reactions you did were with Miho.

They mostly do Powermetal/symphonicmetal/progmetal, they have trashy tracks like the ones you are reacting and some others, but the last 3 albuns are more power/prog. Angra, the brazilian power/prog band is one of the biggest influence on LOVEBITES sound. (Kiko Loureiro, Megadeath guitarrist last band)

This live studio segment was in celebration of the first album "Awake from Abyss" on its 3rd anniversary so they did the entire album for the show and added a cover of Helloween's song Eagle Fly Free at the end. The entire album is phenomenal as showcases the many styles and genres they play. Later on you will see why many reference Lovebites to Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, but for now this is one of their thrash metal songs and they do have several. Continue on as the DVD is you will not regret it

Not the new bass player. This is Miho one of the founding members of Lovebites. Now parted ways. Fami is the new bass player. As for the stern guitarist… Miyako, genius… ask yourself when did you see a virtuoso classical musician pull faces and jump all over the place. You’re dead on with the not Iron Maiden or Judas Priest. I grew up with both those bands and yes, they have dual guitar players but the rest no. Both Miyako and Midori have classical backgrounds, and I hear that much more. 🎸🤘

When you listen to the entire catalog of LOVEBITES (the catalog contains about 60 original songs & music tracks), and many times each song, your opinion can change many times. For those who have listened a lot to all the songs of this band, it is difficult to choose one song as the "best".🤗 "Stand and Deliver (Shoot 'em Down)" is not exactly your typical LOVEBITES song. Ladies are just having fun in the studio, paying tribute, rather, MOTöRHEAD.

I'm tempted to say: "Right song, wrong version." While this is still a great performance, nothing is as enjoyable to watch than the performance at their live concert in January 2020 in front of an enthusiastic audience! Others have already posted a link to it in some of the comments here and it was also the version which several people had suggested in the comments to your previous Lovebites-reaction. While it doesn't make much sense to record another reaction to the live version from January 2020, at least do yourself a favour and check it out on your own! I also had the impression that the sound of the song in this clip was not the best, because it sounded sometimes somewhat muffled, or was it just because of the way you recorded your reaction? The original DVD, of which I do have a copy, has a better sound. As others have already pointed out before, the reason why you have heard mostly Thrash Metal in their songs so far is simply that you have reacted to what at least most Thrash Metal fans consider Lovebites' best Thrash Metal songs. If you continue your journey with them, you will find out that they cover different old school metal styles on the same quality level. On another note, I like how the blue tips of Miho's hair match with the blue color of her "Ride the Lightning"-shirt.
